  1. Matthew Pouliot from Rotoworld has us at #3 for the favorites for a Halladay trade;
  2. Well Contador just showed everyone who's the boss there. Amazing acceleration on that last climb, and he's opened up a gap of around a minute at least now. Armstrong had no chance today.
  3. QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 04:00 AM) Damn. I forgot. I watch that all the time! "PHIL? Phil Connors!" "NED?!" It's always on one of the cable TV channels down here. Was watching that and the Witness for a bit last night.
  4. Groundhog Day with Bill Murray is another movie that I don't think I've seen anyone else mention.
  5. QUOTE (onedude @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 03:24 AM) I gotta add The Fugitive to the list. When ever that movie is on I stay and watch. I was at my uncle's pawn shop, this was like 12 years ago, and he had The Fugitive playing on the televisions and it would rewind and play again when finished. I probably watched it like 6 times that day. Oh ya forgot that also. Never get sick of watching "The Kimble" run around.
  6. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 03:32 AM) With the outragous prices for these guys. I'm almost at the point of saying screw it. Lets keep the farm strong and just add via free agency. We might be better off just buying low on guys like John Lackey or Brandon Webb. Let Poreda keep developing and plug him into our 5th spot next year. Buerhle, Webb/Lackey, Danks, Floyd, Poreda. I'm cool with that- esspecially since the farm would still be in tact. If there was one move i would like KW to make before July 31st, it would be to add an OF. I could see Dye bought out and signed to a new 3 year deal worth about 6 mil/ season. He would likely split DH duties with Quentin next year. So that leaves LF and CF open. Jordan Danks is getting closer but he may benefit for one more season down in the minors. So a DeJesus might be a good pick up as a 1.5 year stop gap. Lackey's actually quite an interesting case coming into FA this off-season. His ERA is at 4.93 currently, but he's actually pitched a lot better than that, a FIP of 3.98 and he's only had a DER of .664 behind him in his 12 starts so far this season. I think he'll still get Derek Lowe type of money from some team, but I hope the Sox definitely take a look at him if they're after a #2 type of SP.
  7. Looks like David Lee will probably stay with the Knicks; 5/35 would be a good deal for NY. He's a borderline all-star and probably getting what he should make. So it looks like Odom or bust for Portland ATM. And the Knicks want Ramon Sessions now, not Andre Miller;
  8. As a kid growing up, I used to watch the Wizard quite a bit (with Fred Savage and Christian Slater). I would probably say Saving Private Ryan is one that I've watched many a time though.
  9. Wow that's just a digusting invasion of privacy. I hope they catch the peepin Tom and throw the book at him.
  10. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 02:22 AM) All of this depends on how much the Diamondbacks want to reduce payroll. If it's bad, they would take a Flowers/Viciedo/Richard/Poreda package without blinking if it took the $45 million owed to Haren off the books. They raised $50 million to cover payroll over the next five years, so they may be good. If they don't need to reduce payroll, I'm not sure they would trade Haren, period. Unless you offered Beckham / Poreda / Hudson / Danks / Flowers / Ramirez or some other ludicrous deal no GM would turn down. They're looking to trade Chris Snyder now since Miguel Montero has come on, and he's due 16M over the next 3 years. So I think they'd obviously rather ship off some other assets before Haren if they can.
  11. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 01:54 AM) Agree, 100%. He'd fit perfectly on this team. The Marlins are after a closer right now it seems, IIRC they were after Matt Capps a few weeks back. Here's a scenario, would you trade Jenks for say 2 spects plus Ross, and then flip those spects, plus at least 2-3 premium ones on our side for Roy Halladay?
  12. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 02:32 AM) What about the Cardinals and their OF? I know a few months back people were murmuring about Rick Ankiel (both positively and negatively) but they Cards do have 4 talented OFers in Ludwick, Ankiel, Rasmus, and Duncan, and La Russa has openly said he's had trouble getting all of them playing time. I know Ankiel isn't having the best season (somewhere down around .215 this year), but overall they are all pretty good options. The Cards be a good option to peruse considering they should be looking for someone else in the infield, maybe Fields might garner some interest. Ankiel's contract runs out at the end of the season and he's a Bora$$ client IIRC, so that would count him out. Ludwick would probably be the guy you'd target out of the 4 there I would say.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 19, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) I'm a big fan of Dan Murphy. But I don't think the Mets would be willing to sell now on him already, he's got a lot of potential with that bat. As am I. But he's had big issues with the Mets this season being out of the lineup etc. after they had such high hopes on him as their #2 hitter. I think he can still do that, but Citi Field doesn't suit him, and I almost think he needs to get out of there just for his own confidence more than anything else. Plus the Mets are 42-47 and 8.5 GB ATM, so they need to do something (firing Jerry Manuel would probably be a start).
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 07:42 AM) Than don't do the briefcase gimic. It wreaks of rip off. Velvet Sky is up there with Kelly Kelly and Maryse IMO. Yeah I've been starting to get into TNA a little and I would have to agree on Velvet Sky. Angelina Love's voice is like scratching against a chalkboard though. Cringeworthy.
  15. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:54 PM) I don't think KW is going to decimate his farm system either, but I definitely could see some sort of 3 way deal where Jenks goes and maybe another White Sox prospect or 2 and Halladay winds up with the Sox. After the Tony Pena acquisition that wouldn't surprise me, but you'd have to look at which teams out there would give up some good prospects to get Jenks in the 1st place.
  16. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 11:36 PM) Even though he hasn't ever done it before, maybe KW flips Jenks for some prospects and use some of those plus maybe a little kicker for Halladay. Jenks has had a nice ride with the Sox but Jenks vs. Halladay is a no brainer. Another thing people should keep in mind is while a lot of White Sox prospects are having a ton of success in the minors, it probably is going to take them a while to be very successful in the majors, if they even are at all. On the scoreboard last night, they had the rookie RBI leader in the entire AL with 23, that means Getz , who a lot of people here think can't play, leads all AL rookies with 16 doubles and is 1 off the lead in RBI. (Beckham is only 2 or 3 off). That's every AL team. Another interesting note, Octavial Dotel has more strikeouts out of the bullpen than any other pitcher since 2000, and his k/9 innings is top 3 in the modern era. This according to the scoreboard last night. I agree that prospects have definitely been expendable under KW's reign. But the package that's being proposed for Halladay, eh I'm just wary of giving up that much talent. I mean don't get me wrong, Halladay's a stud SP. But he's also thrown a lot of innings over the years, and there's always the risk of injury for a pitcher like him. I think he'll end up at either the Dodgers (who are starting to struggle a little) or the Phillies anyways, but I'd never count KW out of anything.
  17. Yeah they guys you've mentioned all have big contracts, or you'd have to give up some premium talent for some. Hence why I suggested Giles is another thread, albeit he is having a terrible year, but his numbers away from PETCO over the years indicate he'd be prime for a bounce back, and well he may get DFA'ed as Lugo was yesterday. As for some other names, I'd inquire about Dan Murphy from the Mets and see if you could buy low on him, although his defense in LF certainly leaves a lot to be desired, and you might need to make him an infielder again.
  18. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:17 PM) Tiger missed the cut...ouch. He just hasn't been the same since he's come back, especially with the driver off the tee. I mean he's still very, very good, but he's not as good as he was back in 2007 ATM. I actually think Sergio Garcia may win. He's at -1, and if he can get the putter going, he's as good of a ballstriker as anyone still out there.
  19. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Levi is out now so there goes arguably the third best rider in this year's race. He is a huge loss for Astana (assuming Lance and Alberto won't help each other in the traditional sense). Could Sunday finally be the day someone beats the Astana juggernaut. They're so strong, I almost hope someone can take it to them. Yeah that's big news for the other contenders. Someone like Wiggins or even Cadel Evans could have a big crack tomorrow night and not have Astana breathing down their necks working together. Also puts a little bit more excitement into what's probably been a lacklustre TDF so far.
  20. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) Would you deal Rose for Chris Paul? Obviously that wouldn't work cap - wise. The Bulls would have to trade Hinrich or Deng and make it a 3 way deal. But Paul's a top 5 player in the NBA and is only getting better. Rose isn't there yet, and he's probably not going to be a playmaker that Paul is, but he may be a better scoring guard. But yes I would trade Rose for Paul absolutely.
  21. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 05:40 AM) The match means that Boozer will absolutely be traded, and soon. I don't think it will be to the Bulls though, because that would be a smart move and the Bulls don't do things like that (with the exception of letting Ben Gordon go, and even that is a debateable point). The market for Boozer will be pretty big right now. The Knicks would love to have him, even though they don't have much else to offer (although they could do Larry Hughes straight up as he's an expiring contract also). The Mavericks could offer Erick Dampier's contract which isn't guaranteed beyond the season. And then the Heat with their offer of cash, draft picks, Haslem and James Jones which is a pretty decent deal. So it depends on whether Utah wants cap savings or talent for Boozer. I'd say it's probably the former but you never know.
  22. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:18 AM) ESPN.com is saying the Heat offered Odom 35m for 5. Similar money to the Lakers per year, but 2 more years. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4336149 I still think he goes back to LA, but if he doesn't, do you think the Lakers were better off with Ariza/Odom or Artest? Gut reaction to me is Artest, but I'm open to changing that opinion Definitely Ariza/Odom. Yeah Artest will be able to guard LeBron, but Ariza and Odom offer much more versatility, Ariza's only 23 so he's only going to get better, and Odom's a nightmare matchup at the 3 spot, and he's a pretty good rebounder and defender to boot. And Artest is going to want to jack up 15 shots a night and hog the ball, because well he's Ron Artest.
  23. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 06:27 AM) Per ESPN: Lugo DFA'd. No need to trade for him now DBAHO. Well that contract that Theo Epstein gave him certainly turned out to be one of his worst moves as a GM.
  24. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 03:24 AM) Andrew, there are talks that the Hornets might have to trade Chris Paul due to the economy. This thing is bad and the NBA is hurting, especially with a looming lockout. Yeah I just saw this; If they want to kill basketball in New Orleans though, they'd trade Chris Paul. That Peja contract just looks horrible ATM.
  25. Rios is just too much of a risk even if the Jays swallowed half his contract I think. His numbers have declined badly since 2007, and this season he has a .634 OPS away from the Skydome. In fact over his career, his OPS is almost .100 less in away matches than it is at home. Plus he's not very good defensively in CF, so you'd probably have to play him in RF.
