QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 06:23 AM) Bill Kristol on Fox is trying to spin this into a positive for her. Shrewd political move and all. "Just saw the opening of the 2012 campaign" Wouldn't it be incredibly easy to beat her over the head for abandoning her elected post? Of course Fox News are going to spin this into a positive, it's what they do best. Let's have Bristol take over. And if Palin is running in 2012, well the Republicans have no shot. The only way she is going to look credible if she does, is if she actually knows what she's talking about, and well I don't ever see that happening to be frank.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Jul 4, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) I certainly think this is the last year of BA on the Sox. He should be dealt in the offseason, though he could be part of a deadline trade for a team that is out of it and wants to take an extended look at him. But right now, he offers decent value to the sox for his defense and ability to play all 3 OF spots. The only type of teams where I could see BA starting is on a team like Seattle or San Diego where his defensive ability would be more valuable in a spacious ballpark. But then players like Scott Hairston has thrived this season FWIW.
-
Lopez ain't exactly good defensively though, which has been the main knock on him. Right now, if Getz and Nix continue to hit as they have lately, I don't see a major need to give up some spects like Dan Hudson for a 3 month rental.
-
Until he hits FA, there's not really a major need for the Sox to deal him unless he demands a trade. He offers value as a 4th OF who can play all 3 OF spots, and his plate discipline has improved this season, albeit the power has dropped.

Hedo Turkoglu is signing with Toronto spurning Portland. That team could very well be back in the playoffs next season because; 1 - Bosh will want to play very well in a "contract" year. 2 - Hedo is an upgrade on Marion on the offensive end. 3 - If Calderon is healthy, he'll be back to his 07-08 form. 4 - The played well under Triano at the end of the season.

LMAO at this;

I'd have Nix backing up at 2B and SS still and playing at least 2 times a week for Getz. Getz had a decent enough June after a bad May, so I don't think there's a major reason for him to be benched ATM. If needed, Nix can get playing time elsewhere if he continues to hit.

Campbell to San Jose perhaps, or Huet if Nabokov is being dealt. Marleau would definitely be a huge upgrade as a 2nd line center though.

Now the Sox are going to have a lot of payroll flexibility this coming off-season. I'd like to see some of that money put towards signing Chapman, if the reports are indeed true about him. With his velocity, he could even be a closer to replace Bobby Jenks perhaps. -
Hmmm;

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 03:44 PM) Hossa has a 5.2 million dollar cap hit for the entire contract. By year 8, he probably retires, meaning the Hawks are clear of the rest of the contract. That 4 million dollars is probably the last year he plays. Well then the Hawks certainly did well on that deal then. Paying 5M a season to a proven 40 goal scorer who has shown that he can also stay healthy is pretty good business indeed.

Right now with the offense finally clicking and putting up some consistent run production, you'd be crazy to switch things around. I like Alexei in the 2 hole, and his plate discipline is much improved from last season (already 6 more BB's than last season with 201 less AB's). They're doing the right thing with Beck, easing him into it, letting him lower down the order and now they're starting to see the rewards.

I don't think Roddick can beat Murray coming off a big 5 setter, but you never know. It's 90% likely that Federer is going to win anyways, so it's all moot.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but Andre Igoudala sure would look nice next to Derrick Rose right now. In other news, Ariza may actually sign with the Cavs, Sheed is talkin to the Celts, the Magic are talkin to Brandon Bass, and the Rockets have offered the "Polish Hammer" the full MLE (which we won't match).

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) Here is the breakdown of the Hossa contract. Hawks only take on a 5.2 million dollar cap hit on the deal. 2009-10 -- $7.9 million 2010-11 -- $7.9 million 2011-12 -- $7.9 million 2012-13 -- $7.9 million 2013-14 -- $7.9 million 2014-15 -- $7.9 million 2015-16 -- $7.9 million 2016-17 -- $4 million 2017-18 -- $1 million 2018-19 -- $1 million 2019-20 -- $750,000 2020-21 -- $750,000 So next season are we actually having a cap hit of 7.9M or 5.2M for Hossa against the cap? Losing Khabibulin is a blow, and I wonder if Tallon is going to try and jump in the Gustaffson (know I didn't spell that right) negotiations right now. With Huet, I think the Caps could still be a possibility as a trading partner, but we may have to take Jose Theodore back. The Madden signing is a good one, he'll be a beast on the 3rd line. As for Campbell, I'd also be talking to Atlanta about him, as they were pretty hot after him when we signed him. I wonder what Rick Dudley (now their assistant GM) thinks of him though.
-
Ever since Ramon Castro has become his personal catcher also, he's pitched very well. The Castro trade could turn out to be one of KW's most underrated trades when it's all said and done. At the end of the season, I think you look at giving him a 1 year deal if the price is right and you think he can hold up for another season, but with the payroll flexibility that KW is going to have, I think he'll look for an upgrade first.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 12:16 PM) I really don't believe that, honestly. Gordon Stuckey Villanueva Hamilton Prince That's their starting lineup right now. Ridiculously undersized. Tyrus could drop 35 on that roster. Let's say they re-sign McDyess. Still, they're ridiculously undersized. They have the MLE available, but they are still ridiculously undersized. And if they sign someone else for PF, then they're consigning either Hamilton, Prince, or Gordon to the bench. Some of those guys may not like that. I know one of them doesn't. Basically, if you want to convince me they'll be better than the Bulls next season, they need to trade Hamilton for a legit PF. Boozer, Bosh, or Amare. They do that, and they're better than the Bulls...if the guy they trade for stays healthy (2 of those guys tend to not). Even if they do that, I'm not convinced they're a top 4 team in the East, but that's what it would take for them to even really look like more than the 7th-8th seed if they're lucky to me. Either Maxiell or Brown would start at the center spot I would think. But they'll have issues at the 4 spot, unless they start Villenueva there, and he ain't much of a defensive player either. As a Magic fan, these 2 signings make me very happy, because the Pistons will be nothing more than a team making up the numbers in the playoffs going forward. I'd also make Gordon the 6th man, start Stuckey and Rip, but I dunno if they'll do that.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:37 AM) I just do not see the point in OKC signing a 4. Jeff Green is still developing and very serviceable. Well I guess Krstic ain't exactly a banger down low, so they could use another real good player on the boards. And Millsap's a pretty good defensive PF also, much better than Boozer anyways. And they've got to use their cap room now before it gets swallowed up in the Durant and Green extensions.
-
QUOTE (rangercal @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 02:28 AM) There is no reason why Jeff green should come off the bench. Well I don't think Millsap is going to sign and not be a starter. And Durant's basically shown he's a much better player for Scotty Brooks as a 3 and not the 2 spot, plus they drafted Harden for the SG spot. Green could be a 6th man of the year if he came off the pine, but then again it could hurt the Thunder in trying to re-sign him long term, so it's an interesting balancing act they have to play here.

Roloson just became a FA, so Huet could be an option for Edmonton especially since they missed out on Heatley. As for the Avalanche, dunno how much cap room they have, but they just re-sign Budaj for 1.2M, and let Raycroft go. They were after Gustavsson the Swedish goalie also, but he's headed to Dallas or Toronto apparently.
-
Roddick a set up, and just broke Hewitt to get back on serve in the 2nd. I think Hewitt will take a set here, but Roddick will win in 4.
-
If that were to happen, Paul Millsap's probably headed to the Thunder. And I think that team could actually make the playoffs in the West next season. PG - Westbrook SG - Harden SF - Durant PF - Millsap C - Krstic Bench: Green, Sefolosha, Watson, White, Collison, Mason, Wilkins That's a pretty good lineup with a lot of upside going forward.
-
Sedin twins got locked up by the Canucks for 5 years @ 6.1M a season. Heatley rejected a trade to Edmonton, and really if he's demanding a trade from Ottawa, it's a bit rich for him to reject that deal.
