  1. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 01:37 AM) DBAHO is on par with Hawk Harrelson as a GM. Are you basing that on my OOTP experience? I mean obviously though the Sox are not going to bring in a star player at the deadline or anything, but I think they'll be a buyer at least, although as Alex said, I think they'll actually bring in Garland if Richard doesn't pick it up, although I don't think that's a great move.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 01:59 AM) If they're willing to continue to add salary mid-season to try to make title runs, yes they can. Hypothetically, imagine this scenario. Someone wants to shed a SF or PF with a high salary midseason. I.e. the Bulls with Deng, although the Bulls shouldn't be doing that, esp. with the Lakers. The Lakers turn around and say "We have Derek Fisher on a 1 year deal and Adam Morrison has a qualifying offer next year that you can decline, thus turning his entire contract in to 2010 cap space. All we ask is that you buy out Fisher so that he can come back to us if he wants to" If a team is hurting financially, wouldn't they do that? But realistically, what teams are out there that would do that type of deal? I can't see Chicago dealing Deng for instance. The best match I could think of is the Hornets dealing Peja because they're struggling financially and he's due 14.2M this season and then 15.3M next season, but I don't think anyone would want to pay him that much, and he's still a downgrade on Lamar Odom. Maybe James Posey instead, although he's due 6.5M averaged over the next 3 seasons. What you're proposing is basically another Pau Gasol deal, and I dunno if that'll happen again, although it certainly could.
  3. QUOTE (Soxy @ Jul 18, 2009 -> 12:58 AM) How weird is it that Jermaine got an emmy nomination but Brett didn't? Must have been this magazine cover that got him over the line;
  4. Generation Y got a spoiled upbringing and now it's showing with alcohol fueled violence around the world in the 18-35 age bracket (or at least it is down here in Melbourne and other cities around the world such as London).
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) Disrespected or not you don't go and take a lot less money to play in Miama or anywhere else. Especially when the team that is offering you the most is also the NBA CHamps. I buy zero into the fact that Miami is going to get Odom, not if the Lakers did in fact offer what has been reported. Jerry Buss said he's not going to offer 5/45 or whatever he offered again though. Someone's gonna have to swallow their pride in all of this. The Lakers can't win another championship without Odom IMO.
  6. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 02:07 PM) One guy is hitting .191, the other has 8 RBI in 124 ABs. Both are old. No thanks. Look at Giles' numbers away from PETCO just from last season though. .316/.403/.488. He'd be the type of buy low type of guy I could see KW enquiring about, and hoping that he could get back to his old form. If the Padres were going to swallow his contract, I'd certainly take him over DeWayne Wise that's for sure.
  7. So reading through the news today, I saw these 2 things; So it looks like Giles and Lugo are both very much available. Giles has struggled terribly this season, but has an excellent history of getting on base and being a good solid LHH. Depending if Quentin gets back to 100%, could Giles be a possible alternative in the OF? As for Lugo, if the Red Sox are willing to pay the remainder of his contract, I'd certainly look into acquiring him depending on the cost. Ramirez could move back to 2B, however, he has actually been better than Lugo has defensively this season, albeit the errors. Any other thoughts on these 2?
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 03:51 AM) Why would Odom take less money than what the Lakers offered him. The Lakers offer was a year less and still had more guaranteed money than the Heat offer of 5 years. Bulls*** Odom signs for the MLE when the Lakers are offering more than that. He wanted 5/50, and maybe he's disrespected by what the Lakers offfered, and he has played in Miami before. Looks like Utah are going to match the Milsap offer, so if I were them, I'd get in the Odom sweepstakes ASAP.
  9. Ana Ivanovic may be out in support of Adam Scott also there Slav.
  10. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) PG. Chalmers SG. Wade SF. Odom PF. Boozer C. O'Neal with Beasley, Cook, Quinn etc coming off the bench? Yeah that might work. The funny thing is, that still might only be good enough for 4th in the Eastern Conference. But getting Boozer and O'Neal's contract to come off the books in 2010 certainly allows them the capspace to make a big run at Chris Bosh or Amare Stoudemire.
  11. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Jul 16, 2009 -> 03:40 PM) I'd be stunned if Odom doesn't end up back in LA. The Lakers know they can't repeat if they don't have him back. Looks like it's up to Jerry Buss on that one. I'd be shocked if Odom settled for the same contract as Marcin Gortat though. The thing that gets me though, why isn't Portland after Lamar Odom? He's exactly what they need besides an upgrade at the PG spot. He can play the 3, he can handle the ball, and he's got great length obviously. I think because his outside shot has jumped off and that he may have already hit his peak is why Portland is going after Milsap, but Portland could win the West next season if they signed Odom IMO.
  12. Not the greatest dress I've seen of all time.
  13. Well this would certainly bring the Heat back into the thick of things in the East;
  14. QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 01:56 AM) My parents went to Midway this morning to pick me up, didn't notice that the itinerary said PM, not AM. Duhhhhh At least they went to the right airport.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 01:53 AM) If they don't have the deal already nearly done, then matching that is a crazy move, given what we know about how far downwards the salary cap and luxury tax are poised to march next season. Nobody is going to be wanting to trade for that contract in the middle of 2009. Luckily Gortat's a big, and they're always in demand if they are capable enough. I mean would you rather trade for Sam Dalembert's contract or Gortat's for instance (even though Sam has 3 less years on his deal). Apparently the Rockets are going after Oberto though also. The Magic do have a 9M trade exception also to use, so they could actually go after a big expiring contract like Boozer if they wanted to (Boozer for Gortat with the exception would work in the cap rules come Dec 15).
  16. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 01:33 AM) The Olympics suck, IMO. I love America as much as the next guy, but I couldn't care less if we're better than Macedonia at f**gy sports that nobody cares about except for two weeks every four years. You deserve the Olympics in 2016 with that type of attitude then.
  17. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Jul 15, 2009 -> 01:43 AM) The term that has been used more than once is the Hawks have "Too many Chefs in the kitchen". Too many voices can create problems, and I think you may have seen that. McD has done some great things for this organization, but I don't like him making hockey decisions, at all. He should stick to what he does best and that's make the Blackhawks more marketable, increase the crowds etc. which he's already done a great job of. We'll see how Stan Bowman does. One thing though, we've bring griping quite a bit about the contracts being dealt out, well Bowman has been in charge of writing those contracts apparently under Tallon, so that creates an interesting little dynamic going forward especially with our cap problems.
  18. Couple of interesting bits from Barry Rozner's column; I think ultimately the Campbell and Huet signings were the ones that really helped Tallon cost his job more than anything, although he was probably pressured to make those signings because he knew he had to win the Stanley Cup to keep his job.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) PIN THIS THREAD! PIN THIS THREAD! PIN THIS THREAD! 1.......2.........3.
  20. I'd watch the LPGA if it was on more. My room-mate in New York met Paula Creamer (she's sponsored by RBS IIRC, and he worked there for a year) and said she was absolutely lovely. There are some very nice looking female golfers out there. And I watch the Gymnastics when it's on at the Olympics every 4 years for sure.
  21. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) A vet back-up can be very valuable to a team the caliber of the Bears. Byron Leftwich saved the Steelers butts a few times last year when Ben got hurt. Yep look at Brad Johnson last season for the Cowboys for instance. Also Romo broke up with Jessica Simpson today. Dallas Cowboys fans around the world are probably rejoicing at this.
  22. To be fair that's a pretty bad photo of her there qwerty.
  23. My guess on the Gortat re-signing is they're gonna deal him come Dec 15. Because Gortat isn't going to be a happy camper if he's only going to get 10mins a night behind Dwight for the next 5 years. I actually think Otis Smith may have something worked out with Houston already, but we'll wait and see on that.
  24. QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 14, 2009 -> 01:59 AM) I was the target of that post and I didn't find it offensive. I used 7 asterisks to describe Obama. I could have been saying he was an analyst for all anybody knows. I didn't type out the word. If you were just gonna call him an analyst though, you'd just go ahead and write that much without the **'s though right? Although I haven't really heard anyone call Obama an analyst before.
