Ha, goodbye Mr. Kennedy. He'll go to TNA you'd think.

Sox acquire Ramon Castro and cash for Lance Broadway
DBAHO replied to scenario's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2009 -> 11:24 PM) This is a huge upgrade offensively. Exactly. Castro's put up some pretty good numbers for a backup catcher over the past few years. So I like the deal on that regard. But another Duane Shaffer 1st rounder bites the dust. Be warned Kyle McCullough. -
QUOTE (rangercal @ May 29, 2009 -> 02:13 AM) Why even watch if you honestly believe that? Because unfortunately David Stern doesn't want a Linus/Hedo final series (which is a shame).

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 28, 2009 -> 11:23 PM) I swear Dwight Howard could be stabbed in the heart by Lebron James, and Howard would still be called for the foul. Yep pretty much. Everytime he puts his arms straight up, and LeBron drives into him and initiates the contact, it's a foul on Dwight everytime. But I thought it would go back to Orlando, and can Mo Williams shoot as well as he did in game 5 again? Also Rafer Alston had a stinker, he's not a great shooter, but I don't think he's that bad. Magic in 6.

The starting pitcher the White Sox WILL acquire
DBAHO replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I saw Cabrera against the Giants a couple of weeks back. He walked about 6 or 7 hitters in less than 5 innings, including 2 with the bases loaded and 2 out. We can do better. A lot better. And besides our SP has actually been pretty decent lately ever since Contreras left the rotation. -
I just look at Cleveland 's supporting cast, and to me, the only addition they made was obviously Mo Williams, who's a guy who's never delivered in the playoffs before, and now he's making all these guarantees. Orlando has a better bench (Pietrus for one has done a fantastic job guarding Pierce and James and knockin down 3's in the post-season), and Alston has argubly been better than Williams so far. If the Cavs are going to have any chance of winning the series, they need Mo Williams to be the player he was during the regular season. I don't see that happening.

Linda Cohn!!! No would have to be Miss Andrews of course.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:55 AM) That tech can be rescinded I believe after they look at it, seeing as all he really did was make a fist pump after getting an and 1. I didnt really see the need for the Tech there as he didnt go out of his way to taunt AV, but who knows. Varejao's the dirtiest player in the league. Sooner or later, he's going to hurt someone real badly with the way he contorts his body and has his arms waving around everywhere.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 27, 2009 -> 01:28 AM) Doubtful. They did take both regular season games. The Magic just matchup extremely well with Cleveland. Makes you wonder how tough they'd be now with a healthy Jameer Nelson (although Rafer Alston wouldn't have been acquired). There's actually a rumor going around that Nelson is going to play in the Finals if we make it there. And considering AJ's abysmal backup play so far (-9 today on court), I'd be for it, considering how clutch of a shooter Nelson is in the 4th, which is another weakness of ours. Still picking the Cavs in 5 ranger?

Thank you, that's 2-1 to us. Some BS foul calls on Lebron as per usual, but we stuck through it, and showed that we can win without Dwight on the floor for long periods. If we keep Williams and West under control, I like our chances going forward.

Sigh, missed the game today, don't think I want to watch the replay. So damn disheartening.
-
Very disheartening news but I can't say I'm at all surprised. At least it shows though that KW isn't afraid to make a major move from here on out.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:36 AM) But it shows they aren't at or over their salary limit like they have been preaching. I'm not suggesting they just give all that money to the next guy. What I'm saying is their every dollar in goes out isn't accurate. They obviously have some cash laying around. So KW has come out in the press and said something, and now done another. It's not the first time he's ever done it, and I'm sure other GM's on teams have probably done the same in the past.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:35 AM) Its a lot more than $10. I'm just thinking this year. KW only has $.50 remember. Have you ever considered that acquiring a "name" pitcher in Peavy could raise attendances (also due to more wins), which would help the Sox pay for his salary? But hey, the Sox could have always kept Javier "Big Game" Vazquez now if they had this money right? The Sox were clearly waiting to acquire a big name guy after they moved salary, and I think after the slow start they've had, KW's pushed ahead with that plan a bit earlier than usual.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 21, 2009 -> 09:26 AM) That's what I don't understand. If he's willing to play for the Cubs or Brewers, why would he even have to think about the White Sox. It makes you wonder if he truely is an "ace". If he says yes, its KW's best trade IMO. If he says no, good riddance. I'm actually shocked that they have agreed to a deal if they actually have. If Peavy says no, KW is going to have to do a lot of backpedaling when talking about finances. I'm sure he'll give the line JR was willing to bust the budget by $10 million to get the "right guy". The right guy being a guy who is hesitant to pitch in the AL. Was there any guy in FA FWIW that you would have given $10M to? Peavy's a franchise pitcher. You don't get the chance to acquire a pitcher like him, especially when you consider how much a team like the Yankees would have given him if he hit free agency in the past off-season (think Sabathia money).
-
So Heyman's reported that it's done, and that it's all up to Jake. Looks like we'll be waiting on Mr. Peavy today.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) As long as the PTBNL's are not any of Beckham, Danks, Flowers, Allen, Viciedo, Carter or Hudson i'm completely fine with it. The last 2 I could live with. I'd say the Pads would want all of the good young pitching they could get with this deal.
-
Couple of great pieces on Peavy here also; http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...fort-mechanics/ http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...yer-jake-peavy/
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:29 AM) The Score is indeed reporting the deal is done pending Peavy approval, no mention of players at all. Wowee. Going to be a very interesting few hours ahead.
-
Also Giles has a .166/.258/.241 line so far this season FWIW.
-
Isn't Giles a 10/5 player as well? And he's a big West Coast guy IIRC.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:21 AM) The Score is actually saying Jermaine Dye is in the proposed Deal. That means the Sox are only adding 5-6 million dollars this year. Now that's very surprising indeed. JD's been the Sox's best hitter so far, but then again, it's not like you can acquire a pitcher like Peavy everyday of the week. What would happen to Brian Giles though?
-
If anything, I'd see em more interested in Getz than Alexei actually. It's not like Alexei would be able to hit his 20HR's a season playing half his game in that ballclub. Getz could be a long-term #2 hitter for that team with his ability to get on base (although he hasn't shown that thus far).
-
QUOTE (POPPY_HIDALGO @ May 21, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) Bring that over to the AL and see how it pans out. The AL is far superior... Let's just hope they don't give up too much for a guy that can't save a season all by himself. Sick of hearing that argument, there are plenty of pitchers who have changed leagues there and done just fine. If anything it would be going from PETCO to the Cell that would inflate Peavy's numbers, not changing leagues.
-
FWIW, who are the available FA SP's this off-season. Because the Sox are probably going to have to sign someone there, otherwise you could have both Poreda and Richard starting in the rotation from next season.
