Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:50 AM) Would you wanna play in a hitting park, with a crazy manager and a underachieving team? You call Ozzie a crazy manager (who's won a World Series BTW), and yet Peavy has pitched for the likes of Bud Black.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
Just some numbers here on Peavy FWIW; FIP - Fielding Independent Pitching, a measure of all those things for which a pitcher is specifically responsible. The formula is (HR*13+(BB+HBP-IBB)*3-K*2)/IP, plus a league-specific factor (usually around 3.2) to round out the number to an equivalent ERA number. FIP helps you understand how well a pitcher pitched, regardless of how well his fielders fielded. 06 - 3.41 07 - 2.80 08 - 3.65 09 - 3.40 I think the whole NL to AL theory is overblown still FWIW, but going from PETCO to the Cell would be interesting to watch when his GB% is just above 40%.

Peavy Rejects Sox Offer; Deal Now Dead
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ May 21, 2009 -> 02:18 AM) I'm not sure how I feel about this trade. Peavy's #'s are inflated from the NL and Petco, and I'm not sure the Sox have enough to win the division this year even with him. That being said, I'm not a huge Poreda fan (I think there's a good chance he'll be end up in the bullpen), and it looks like he's the main piece in the trade. As long as were not giving up Beckham or Flowers, I don't really have a problem with this. Hey, plus if we get him at least it means he won't be going to the Cubs. The last season and a bit his numbers away from PETCO aren't great, but I think if the Sox have a chance to do this they should. Gavin Floyd's stock is down, and Contreras we may never see again, and who know what the Sox are going to do with Colon after this season. So they're gonna need a starting pitcher soon enough (or they would have in the off-season), and Peavy I think is the perfect target (so long as the PTBNL isn't Beckham, Flowers or Allen, rather a Dan Hudson, Stephen Upchurch or Dexter Carter). Peavy, Buehrle and Danks would argubly be the best 1-2-3 punch for a rotation in the AL.

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:34 PM) And as soon as I say that, you guys go on a furious run. As proven all season, I am indeed the Orlando Magic good luck charm. You've been undersellin us all season. Please keep doing it. Loved the way we moved the ball around on offense in the 3rd Q. Need to keep doing it, and hope LeBron misses some jump shots.

QUOTE (rangercal @ May 20, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) Hate to break it to you, but this series was over before it started. That goes for any team in the East against Lebron. I think if the refs were neutral and Hedo was playing at his best, we could win this series. But I don't see either of those happening.

Sigh, Mo Williams hits a backcourt 3 at the buzzer. If Dwight is gonna get called for those type of offensive fouls that have been called so far (especially the 2nd one), this series is over.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 17, 2009 -> 11:28 PM) Shoulda been over a while ago Im not sold on the Cavs getting a free trip to the Finals just yet. Hedo's actually a decent matchup for Lebron defensively. I think James will have to do quite a bit of jump shooting with Howard in the key also. The key matchup is that Rafer Alston can't let Mo Williams get 25 points a night. And I'd start Lee again and tell him to shutdown Delonte West in the corner like he did with Eddie House this series.

Goodbye Celtics. Bout time you came thru Hedo. Bring on the Cavs. And before anyone calls it a sweep, we took the season series 2-1 on em this season, and lost by 4 to em in Cleveland. I think it could easily go 6 or 7 here.

So looks like Mark Cuban will be gettin another big fine eh. Yao done for the post-season also with another fracture in his foot.

I never thought I'd say this....
If they're going to play Pods, might as well put him in the leadoff spot. Getz is a rookie, and should be hitting lower down the order. Makes perfect sense.

And that'll be game 3 to us thank you very much. Lewis and Turk have had great games. They play like that for the rest of the series, Boston have got no chance.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ May 7, 2009 -> 08:19 AM) Villa is underrated. Eto's great, but I expect more out of Adebayor though. Adebayor's basically had 1 good season, and that was last season. Done nothing to back it up. I'd rank em as this; 1 - Messi. Has overtaken Ronaldo this season IMO. Fantastic player. 2 - Ronaldo. Hasn't been as good as he was last season when he scored 42 goals, and I think he still wants to go to Real Madrid. 3 - Kaka. Doesn't do anything fantastically, but he's good at everything, very good. Class player. 4 - Ibrahimovic. And yeah I'll get called out for his lack of scoring at the European Level. But he's been a beast in Italy for many seasons and there aren't any other strikers around with his size and speed besides Adebayor who actually have good finishing ability. 5 - Gerrard. Can play anywhere in midfield and dominate. Was deciding b/w Xavi, Rooney and Fabregas for this spot. For me, Torres has slipped this season, and Vidic got found out against Liverpool, as he's no good against quick forwards.

QUOTE (G&T @ May 7, 2009 -> 07:50 PM) Well if it's that cheap, then it's tough to lose. At worst, she doesn't like it and you didn't waste a lot of money. At best, she wears a bikini you want her to wear. Of course, this analysis changes if she's the type to get pissed when you buy her a style she doesn't like and it's the wrong size.... Good luck with that. Yeah make sure it's the right size etc. and that she can exchange it if need be (not that I am doubting your judgement here Jason). And congrats G&T on the engagement.

Rondo's going to go nuts in game 3 against Anthony Johnson. Unless they start Lee at PG, which they could actually do.

QUOTE (T R U @ May 6, 2009 -> 07:44 PM) At least its headed to Orlando now Ya which is something I guess. The worrying thing is that Pierce and Allen have hardly played well so far. And Alston can't let Rondo do what he did tonight. I think the Celtics will nick a game out of the next 2.

Pathetic performance tonight from the Magic allowing Eddie House to go off like that. Sounds like we'll have Lee back for game 3 though, but I'm worried that we've played 6 real bad quarters in a row now.

4/15 Games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) He will be, but let's not go do something like that a week into the season. Well my point is that I think he should have started the season in AAA. He clearly proved last season that he's done well enough in AA ball so far, so I don't really see the point of him repeating there, even if it's only for half a season.

Rondo is a better defensive PG than Rose at this stage of there careers, and I don't know if Rose can keep up with Rondo. I think the Bulls may have to use Hinrich quite a bit in this series.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 11:50 AM) Ben Gordon has minimal playoff experience? I think playoff experience is a ridiculously overrated concept though. Well I guess NBA Finals experience, and that Allen is a more experienced player. I don't think Gordon can stop him defensively (although nitetrain will probably disagree).

QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 11:42 AM) I see your Rondo, Allen and Pierce and raise you Rose,Gordon,Salmons Rondo > Rose. At least right now. Rondo has the playoff experience, and should exploit Rose's lack of D. Allen > Gordon. Again, playoff experience. And he shoots a better percentage from the floor. And Pierce is easily better than Salmons. Paul Pierce was the best player in the playoffs last season. He'll shut down the opposing teams' best defensive player and be a force on the offensive end. I just like the Celtics in this series, because the Bulls haven't proven that they can shut down anyone defensively yet.
