QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:00 PM) I haven't had a home sound system for years so this maybe a dumb question, but do these sound bars hook up to TV? No more amplifiers? Depends on the model. The Sonos PlayBar is one of the better (albeit really expensive ones) and it connects directly to your TV via optical cable. No receivers, amplifiers, or anything like that. I would have gone a different direction, but I can't wire my house for sound, so I went fully wireless.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 02:40 PM) I have no idea how the Packers are going to stop the Dallas offense. Rodgers may have to throw 4 touchdowns again. The Packers have to stop Zeke early and make Dak beat that GB defense with his arm and hope Cole Beasley and Jason Witten have bad games. Last time GB and Dallas met, Dallas ran and hid. I think it will be closer because Aaron Rodgers is being Aaron Rodgers again, but I still give the edge to Dallas. Barely.
-
Dallas might be the only team that can stop Rodgers by keeping him off the field.

QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 10:57 AM) I don't think any of those teams would accept those trades. I can't see the Bulls building around Jimmy either, unless they're able to attract some top FAs, which they've never really been able to do. I really wouldn't mind a trade with the Celtics for Brown, Smart, one or two of their European players along with a bunch of picks. That's much better than what the Nuggets got for Melo IMO If the Bulls can keep Jimmy and lose and get in the draft lottery, there are possibilities. Some of the best players in the NBA right now were picked outside of the top ten. That being said, I think you have to lose Gar to make that happen. The Spurs got their best player with a 15th overall pick. We got ours with 30th. The guy who looks to be the next best player in the NBA went 15th to Milwaukee. The problem is, Gar has shown time and time again that we will not be able to pick the guy we need.

QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 10:33 AM) If they were willing to give up Bregman, the Astros likely would have interest in Frazier...and the Sox would be wise to throw him in to get Bregman, given the opportunity (although I would be shocked if the Astros gave him up under any scenario). Honestly, I doubt the Astros are the team the White Sox are going to trick into acquiring Frazier. They're all metrics and numbers to the point where Frazier will be nothing to them. Despite his power, TF had a bad season with us overall. If we got Bregman, I might cry.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Jan 7, 2017 -> 03:02 AM) would be funny if Rondo winds up on the CAVS The Bulls should get a parade if that happens.

I'd draft best available at 3 and the take a quick in the second or third round. The best rookie qb this year was a compensatory fourth, so anything is possible. A second round pick would certainly be interesting. I wonder what Jimmy G gets from a suitor.

QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 09:37 PM) Ron Baker plays down the stretch over Rose and helps them beat Milwaukee. Ouch Rose is just so Rose. He'll get 18 points a night on 35% shooting.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 6, 2017 -> 10:10 PM) Getting sick of the Hawks fans on their high horse about the Hawks being an awful franchise because of Kane or Hull while bragging about their 2016 WS Champions gear. I don't like Kane, Hull, or Chapman but I can't blame the Blackhawks for sticking by Kane. They already paid him and the case appears to have been dropped. I can neither condemn him nor exonerate him, but at least he has stayed out of trouble since. I wish the Hull thing would just kind of stop, but I won't blame you for liking him.

Tony Romo's goofy contract means moving him would save the Cowboys something like $5 million and they would still need a backup quarterback. Their asking price will be steep, for sure.

The Knicks are just so incompetent. I almost feel sorry for Derrick and Joakim.

QUOTE (RegionSox @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 06:18 PM) According to this story, he had cancer in his jaw and had bone from his fibula taken to replace it http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chica...0105-story.html Okay that makes sense. That would explain struggling to do a radio show.

Mike Greenberg is going to be on in the 4:00 hour. What a weird crossing of worlds for someone who was too young to listen when Greeny was at WSCR. Honestly, this show is incredible today. Must-listen stuff.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:39 PM) First return for the all star ballot and Jimmy is only 6th, behind Lebron, Giannis, Embiid, Love and Melo. Are Giannis and Embiid getting a lot of votes from their home countries like Zaza? Are you suggesting Giannis is undeserving?

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) We know where I stand on this, I think we should build around him. Guy is a superstar and that is the hardest thing to find. We need to find more stars to put around him, but he's also signed to a cheap deal, works hard, etc. I do agree with you, if you are doing it for picks, you need to wait until you know what pick you are getting (you don't want to get robbed in the lottery). That said, what if the Twolves have decided they need Butler (a more proven player to help take them to the next level) and offered a package surrounded around Wiggins, Dunn (or Lavine), and a picks? I think if you trade Butler now, you are doing it for a team who is tired of not having a star and has a lot of young talented assets now + a high pick. I haven't paid attention to Dunn so I don't know how bad he has looked (obviously his numbers have been brutal). I think you need two stars to have a legitimate shot at winning a title (not two stars and garbage, but without two stars, I don't think you have a chance) and Butler is a star...if you get rid of him, we go back to the drawing board where we need a lot of stars. You also need quality players obviously around those stars, but it is easier to find quality players then stars. In Boston's case, I really don't know what they can offer that makes it worthwhile, especially in-season. I agree with your "two star" argument, but Jimmy is the Pippen not the Jordan. It's harder to get that number 1 star on your team, and Jimmy is arguably too good to let the team really tank into a solid draft pick. Since we know Gar won't go out and draft a diamond in the rough (he can't even draft serviceable players), I feel like Jimmy needs to be traded to cause us to get younger and drop in the draft order.

Uh-oh...Harrelson wants to hold on until 2020

QUOTE (balfanman @ Jan 5, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) I would guess that is why he chose to only do road games instead of home games. That way he can visit some of the better golf courses around the country. He lives in northwest Indiana and home games are quite a chore for him to get to. That's why he chose road games. -

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 09:25 PM) Yes. The whole snobby "a TRUE broadcaster does this..." attitude should get flushed down the toilet forever. Shame on anybody knocking what every local broadcaster does: call games for the team's fans. Absolutely self-righteous and annoying. Should they stop selling White Sox gear at the stadium too? Don't want to influence the visiting fans' kids. Don't want to ram such a life-altering bias down these kids' throats. #hawkling "You and your opinion and what the rest of the world thinks should be flushed down the toilets forever and here are some analogies that don't make any sense on the subject!" There are not enough padded walls in this world for people who are uncomfortable with the opinion of the majority -
If the Patriots want the Bears' second rounder for JG, the Bears need to take it.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 03:20 PM) Hawk Harrelson is the greatest thing since sliced bread and anyone who disagrees with that statement is wrong. End of discussion. Statement says a lot more about you than it does about Hawk. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 03:13 PM) Yeah, you must not listen to much other Chicago sports because there are plenty of times that I have heard announcing crews get bitter with officiating. Are you arguing that Stacey King is a good broadcaster? I most certainly am not. He can go, too. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 02:58 PM) Get excited hen it's appropriate? I suppose it would be up to you to determine when it's appropriate, but it does contradict what you wrote. You just wrote we don't understand the broadcast is supposed to be impartial. If that is what you want, why even have the sound on? You can see if a pitch is a strike or the ball his hit to the SS. They flash the stats and the score and the pitch count and the pitch speed on the screen. You want a boring broadcast, it's easy to achieve. rea·son·a·bly ˈrēz(ə)nəblē/Submit adverb 1. in a fair and sensible way. Reasonably partial. Reasonably. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) The only one who doesn't understand is you. There isn't a local broadcast in professional sports that is impartial. Even your boys Len and whoever his partner get excited when the Cubs are winning. Not as excited as you perhaps, but not exactly impartial. The only person who thinks having a passion for the White Sox is a negative is you. But they don't let it get in the way of the job at hand. They, like Benetti (and Stone, for that matter), get excited when it's appropriate, but they don't start yelling at umpires or whining about umpiring when the next guy is up to bat. Hawk shatters like a broken glass whenever anything unexpected happens and Stone has to do Hawks job to keep the broadcast coherent. -

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 02:45 PM) In your opinion. There are many others who respectfully disagree with this view. But when you really think about it, Hawk is the worst part of any broadcast in baseball. He's the signature piece of a perennial loser. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/2016-broadc...ntro-and-31-32/ -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) So a local telecast being beamed out to White Sox fans trying to sell the White Sox is supposed to be impartial? That's pretty funny. Most great broadcasters limit their partiality in order to not lose sight of their jobs. A play-by-play person is meant to give play-by-play, not cheer along with the fans or curse umpires. Of course you don't understand. You want your announcer to be your best friend. The rest of us deserve a real broadcaster for both home and road games. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 4, 2017 -> 02:41 PM) ESPN announcers with no affiliation to either team should be impartial during a broadcast and have no obligation to "love" the team. A team's announcer broadcasting to the team's fan base has no reason to be impartial, none whatsoever, and ought not to be. 162 games of impartial broadcasting would be dreadfully boring. Give me the Hawk or Harry Caray any day over that kind of a snoozefest. Meanwhile, those in the know responsible for administering the Ford Fricke award seem to think the Hawk is a broadcaster, given that he's been nominated a couple of times now for that prestigious "broadcasting" award. That's a career-long award, but the Hawk they wish to honor no longer calls White Sox games. He's been horrible for a decade. -

I don't know why people 1) Require their announcers to love the team 2) Don't understand that the broadcast team is meant to be professional and reasonably inpartial 3) Think Hawk is a broadcaster
