  1. QUOTE (New Era on South Side @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) I approached Bernstein not too long ago about the show, saying Matt would be a nice addition. He went off on me, saying that it's out of his control and he's not one of upper management even though someday he would like to be. Abbatacola's role is definitely a demotion. It makes me wonder if Julie DaCarrio and Chris Rongey are getting the axe. I don't buy the argument of having to move away and take a chance and come back to Chicago to get a talent job. Shepkowski didn't leave even though he has Matt's old job. I stopped myself from majoring in journalism and radio/TV for crap like this. You really have to get lucky to get a paying job and then play the politics to be on air talent. Abbatacola's demotion doesn't make sense, and I hope that he f***s with the Score somehow and goes to AM 1000. My impression (never been in radio) is that it is a demotion. I have never felt DiCaro or Rongey were "higher up" than Abbatacola. It is super weird that a guy so active at the company is suddenly "demoted". Maybe there's more we don't know. Nice display name, BTW.
  2. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jan 13, 2017 -> 12:00 PM) todd frazier, chsiox settle at $12M https://twitter.com/JonHeyman/status/819967146377838593 Good deal. If we can move him at the deadline, great, if not - oh well.
  3. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 10:39 AM) They won't even get that IMO with his contract. I bet they mutually agree on him giving up guaranteed $$ and they cut him. My understanding is, because of the structure of the contract, a potential Romo suitor would not be liable for much of the tab.
  4. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 05:23 PM) Maybe for you, but I imagine a large portion of their audience doesn't have Twitter and still depends on the updates for current sports news. And even for those of us that use twitter on occasion, we tend to undervalue the fact that these guys can parse through the news and focus on what is relevant to the fans.
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) I'll keep repeating it until he ends up getting traded but the trade deadline wont help. Your not getting major league or close to major league ready talent from those teams. If your fine with players highly rated down the farm system that's fine. But the market will change after the season starts. If your trading Q trade him now or dont at all. Elite Prospects >>>> "Major league ready talent"
  6. The only successful kickstarter worthwhile was Pebble. Of course, that's gone now.
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 04:06 PM) True and probably revenue. But how often has an update guy broken a story? Any who. At least you get gems like these QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) So he's replacing Rongey? That sure sounds like a demotion. I suppose it's technically "talent".
  8. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 03:50 PM) I have no idea how radio works. Is that a promotion or demotion from his previous role? It's a promotion for him. He has Abbatacola's old job. Tannehill is the sound guy, but I believe he is technically a "producer" QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 04:02 PM) Why do they still have update guys? With twitter you get up to the second sports news and scores. Waste of time now IMO Can't go on twitter in your car, i guess.
  9. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 08:09 AM) If they could trade down, get Cleveland's #12, the Cle #1 in 2018, and Cle's 2nd in 2017, maybe they could get a QB and someone else. That's certainly possible, but that top level talent is just nuts. Garrett would make an awesome Bear if he's still there.
  10. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 08:11 AM) Definitely. He'll be way better than Boers. I don't understand the love for the guy as a radio host (not familiar with his earlier work as a reporter though). Boers was great as recently as 6, 7 year ago. He just coasted for half a decade.
  11. A couple of things I really like about Scandinavian civics/politics 1) Elementary schools in Finland spend most of their 6 hour school day playing, doing activities, or at lunch 2) In Norway, the prison system is designed to protect the inmates. The longest sentence in the Norwegian penal system is 21 years at which point the inmate is free unless the state can prove he/she is not rehabilitated.
  12. Knightni is probably right about the Bears, but dang it would suck if Chicago skipped all of the top first round talent to reach for a quarterback.
  13. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 12, 2017 -> 07:39 AM) Danny Parkins is like a rising star from Kansas City. He interned with MJH on ESPN1000. He also grew up a Cubs fan and went to New Trier. Now he gets to come home and talk about his favorite team and teams in general. Obviously I'm not a Cubs fan but that's pretty cool. The thing that's interesting (and I know this isn't a deciding factor in these negotiations) is that you have a noon show with two Cubs fans and an afternoon show with White Sox fans. In either case, Dan and Spiegs are sort of semi-fans, but their allegiances are well known. Love Jason Goff. He'll be a great match for Bernstein.
  14. QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jan 9, 2017 -> 10:19 AM) Bruce Weber begs to differ. You knew Weber was going to be a rough tenure when he followed the National Championship appearance with top recruits like Trent Meacham. Trent was a fine player, but he wasn't going to get you far.
  15. New lineup on 670 http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2017/01/11/670...tarting-jan-17/ Bernstein & Goff Spiegel & Parkins
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 12:13 PM) The Bears might as well trade down and try to get two picks. There are so many quality QBs in this draft that one is bound to fall into the teens. No cream of the crop, but a bunch of second through sixth round projects.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 11:52 AM) Seems like a weird article to pump out by a beat writer employed by the Pirates if they weren't taking a real shot at Q. That's true, but at the same time, I don't consider the MLB sites great sources. But it is telling that both the Pirates and the White Sox website are talking about a move.
  18. QUOTE (Boogua @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:49 AM) Agreed. Also, next year looks much better for QBs, especially if the Bears suck again. I think guys like Darnold and Rosen would go #1 this year if they could leave early. Also Lamar Jackson Unfortunately, if the Bears are that bad again, the whole organization is going to be cleaned out.
  19. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:17 AM) I like Abbattacola a lot. He has some annoying tendencies like every other host but for the most part he has fun which is refreshing plus he gives Bernstein s*** more than anyone else. That would be something that I would welcome to keep a better balance for the show. Terry agreed with way too much of what Bernstein said and there was never a counter argument to Bernstein. I hope Matt gets it. Seems like a no-brainer, too as MA is a known quantity with Bernstein. Plus, he's probably cheaper and some outside talent.
  20. QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) This. If Garrett is there, the Bears draft Garrett. Period. I don't need the Bears to draft a QB at #3. I do need them to draft a QB in the first 3 rounds who they like. They have some draft capital they can use to move up and get their guy later in the draft. I will be furious if the Bears leave this draft punting on the QB position again. I don't think they will. They'll get one where they feel the value is right.
  21. QUOTE (shipps @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 10:26 AM) Damn, are we seriously going to see a draft where the top three guys drafted are QB's in a year that people are saying its a weak draft for QB's top to bottom? That sounds disastrous. I'd fire Pace on sight if he drafted the third qb after 1 and 2 were qbs. There are too many studs at other positions in this draft that could change the Bears forever.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jan 10, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) I think he probably was going to go in the 1st anyway (too many teams have QB needs and his resume is pretty good and the tools are all there, albeit, I agree there are concerns about his accuracy...but outside of that he clearly has the NFL arm and plus athleticism). He also has shined on the biggest stages. If he slid through the 1st, I don't see him getting much past the early 2nd round (where any team like the Bears / Niners / Browns...who passed initially on a QB would clearly be going QB at this point). Outside of him getting hurt or doing something dumb off the field, there is no way he is a 3rd or 4th round pick (whether he played in the championship game or not...that is just ridiculous). Of course, because there are stupid teams that won't be able to pass him up. I'm not ready to take a chance on him with 3 overall.
