Amazing to see the reaction to this. Street parties from London to Glasgow, to Belfast and Derry, and many in-between I'm sure, as well as a session here in Dublin. Social media has been colourful, to say the least. I'm taking a more sombre approach to things, as mentioned above, but the reaction says a lot about the hurt that her legacy has left.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 9, 2013 -> 12:45 AM) Gotta call him this weekend. :-/ He's not really in her life, but I'm doing it to keep the peace. I've already proposed, so now it's just in repair mode at this point because he got his dander up. Bring a golf club, just in case.

QUOTE (Chi Town Sox @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 10:49 PM) How did you all break the news to her father that you want to marry his daughter? Golf? Dinner? Bar? What seems like it should be so easy, is actually very nerve-wrecking! I wouldn't stress it too much, whatever you do. I didn't actually ask mine, but he was on the other side of Europe, so it was no big deal. It would never have ocurred to me to do so, to be honest. But, having seen how my Da appreciated my brother in law doing it, I'd definitely say it's a nice thing to do. But don't go mental. Just do something you'd normally do - would you go for a pint together, at all, from time to time?

I'm not sure whether to start with wine or beer this evening. I want to raise a glass in memory of all those, both in my own country and in Britain, whose lives were made a misery by her and her cohorts.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 07:50 PM) Quetzalcoatl is Jose Quintana's alter ego. He's just waiting for a prophecy to fulfill itself before flooding the world with blood from his penis....or something (see Wikipedia article for explanation). In the meantime, he pitches for the White Sox. ...At least, in the religious lore of SoxTalk.
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 07:24 PM) No Quetzlcoatl yet? Whilst a matchday thread is never complete without a feathery serpent God being referenced, and I'm all in favour of it, this post puzzles me.

QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) You can acquire them online for less than that. Oh? Must have a better look. I think I searched a while ago, but probably the shipping put me off. I'll have another look.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 06:45 PM) First Sox home night game of the season = annual reminder that I hate living in the Eastern time zone.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 05:35 PM) Have you ever gotten the shards from one of those in your eye? It really stings! Exactly!* They're vicious little bastards and deserve to be slain mercilessly. Attack! Attack! Attack! *No, actually. Never.

QUOTE (longshot7 @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) Joxer, I'd also heartily recommend the Ken Burns Baseball documentary miniseries - it's chock full of stuff like this and was a primer for baseball history when I was just starting to get into the game really in-depth wise. Should be available streaming online somewhere I'd imagine... That the ten part one for about a hundred bucks? Yeah, was looking at that alright. Hoping to get a pal to bring it home for me in the summer as the shipping adds on a crazy amount. Thanks.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 04:11 PM) Hope to catch most of this game. I'll likely have to leave before it's over; making the bus trip over to Glasgow for a Celtic match tomorrow. Hopefully some Sox magic to give the perfect start to my day!

Always disappointing to lose, but some positives to take heart in. Namely Flowers and Gordon, as already mentioned. I think the overriding emotion after that is frustration; some great work done, only for it not to be capitalised on.

Yessss! Don't stop now, booooooyssss!

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 08:31 PM) well then sit your butt down and don't move! This is better! Good man, Gordo!

Jesus! Step out for a few minutes and return to a three-run deficit!!!

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 07:05 PM) Gavin Floyd is 4-1 with a 2.25 ERA over his last six starts against Kansas City. Good first inning from him.

QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 05:30 PM) The harder the position defensively, the fewer players that can play it. If 1 out 10 professional players can hit at the big league level (I'm pulling that number out of thin air) -- everyone can play 1B, so 1 out of 10 batters can be a 1B. Let's say 1 out of 10 players can play SS, so that means hitters that play SS will be 10x as scarce. That is the simplest way to put it. There are body type and athleticism considerations at play, but the assumption is a SS could drop into any other position other than catcher if needed while a 1B would not normally have the defensive talent to play ANY other position. And the useless c*** is the DH??

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 4, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) Look at the threads, I believe it is. I think we can all agree that this is a great thread, if only for BobDylan's signature pic.
