no thanks to khris davis. we dont need a guy like him that is limited to only LF. esp if we would have to give up young starting pitching

did anybody have a chance to listen to Hahn when he was on 670 the score with Spiegal and Holmes last hour?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 11:37 AM) Rick "not taking any short term, splashy type moves" so no granderson then i take it

QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 29, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) Abreu said he chose #79 because it his actual birth year. this was a joke right. he did not actually say this?

Jose Abreu - 1B - White Sox Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports that the Rockies made a six-year, $63 million offer to Jose Abreu. That fell just short of the winning White Sox bid, which was six years, $68 million -- the highest contract ever for an international free agent. Abreu, 26, is likely to take over as Chicago's starting first baseman in 2014. Related: RockiesSource: Denver Post Oct 28 - 10:25 AM

QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 02:11 PM) Even with that very important strength, I don't like the idea of trading Quintana for a prospect and another guy that seems to be on the same path as Gordon Beckham. Sure the 22nd best prospect is nice and all, but I'll take the guy who has been proving it in mlb for the last two seasons anytime unless I am getting something better than Lawrie. i agree with some of points. but brett lawrie is exactly what this organization needs.. a young 3rd baseman who is full of potential (still only 23) and he is also a BUNDLE of ENERGY.. something that this team severely lacks.. throw in a top 50 prospect. sign me up, get it done rick

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 01:53 PM) I like Quintana, but I would do this trade before Toronto could change their mind. as would I. If Rick can pull that off wow

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Oct 23, 2013 -> 01:47 PM) Could be Quintana to Toronto for 3B Lawrie and RHP Aaron Sanchez. oh boy bucket is breaking out some specifics.. what you think the likelihood we make a deal with the jays built around Quintana for Lawrie?

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 22, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Let's look at the reverse. Cano gets his contract and just DGAF. He comes out, hits .280/.350/.425 with 15 homers and a .775 OPS. Suddenly you're paying $25 million to a 2 WAR player. We are in Josh Hamilton territory, except worse. Then Gillaspie blows, and then Semien flops as his replacement. Tim Anderson turns out to be nothing more than a decent glove, no better a prospect than Leury Garcia. Micah Johnson proves incapable of hitting advanced pitching and is an Eric Young Jr clone, which is to say that he is a .260/.320/.330 hitter in the majors who can steal 40 bases and literally nothing else. Suddenly you have holes all over and no money to spend. Abreu has turned into a .330/.450/.650 monstrosity of a hitter, but not only do you have no funds to reisign him, but he doesn't want to re-sign with a perennial loser anyways. At this point, you have to ride the storm out with Cano until he gets to about 2 years remaning on his 8 year deal and then eat $35 million just so you can save $15 mill, start Junior Lake Junior in LF because he's better than anything you have, and continue to perpetually suck for the next 5 years. That's potentially 13-15 years of suckage simply because you signed Robinson Cano and he stopped caring. i completely agree with this. cano just strikes me as a guy that does not always have that fire and desire for the team aspect. not the guy i want the white sox (with the way our finances are) to tie up money long term to. as someone mentioned below, id much rather sign mccann and ellsbury than just cano

QUOTE (toasty @ Oct 17, 2013 -> 11:58 PM) Buck and DeJesus, to name a few i would not have any problem at all if we bring in DeJesus

1) White Sox 2) 6 years 3) $56 million

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 30, 2013 -> 01:39 PM) What if the Sox signed Abreu and McCann and traded Santiago and something for Lawrie. How would the team stack up at that point? As bad as this team seems, a couple of hitters, guys like Viciedo, Garcia and/or Beckham stepping up, and they are a pretty good team again. that would be my dream scenario. along with moving ramirez alexei. A line up something like below would give us a nice resemblance of some youth and hope I think CF - De Aza 3B - Lawrie RF - Garcia C - McCann DH - Dunn LF - Tank 1B - Abreu SS - Semien 2B - Beckham

Swing a deal of Hector for Lawrie. If it takes Q instead of Hector to get it done I am fine with that as well (hopefully get some pieces back with Lawrie if it is Q we are giving up)
-
I remember a couple weeks ago Bucket mentioned a possible Brett Lawrie for Quintana swap. Given the way Q finished the year and passed the 200 innings mark, I am hoping we can get more than just Lawrie for him. I do love the idea of Lawrie and hoping Hahn is pursuing a deal such as this to bring someone with energy, skill set and youth that Lawrie has.

Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 54s Executive with another team described the Rangers as “active” in these final moments before deadline. Stay tuned, folks. please oh please cave rangers
-
Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales 54s Rios returns from early BP, sounds like only ? Is whether he's in Sox's lineup had my hopes up for a split second, until I re-read it
-
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) Ugh, honestly I would applaud Hahn if he got rid of Rios for anything of value. Would anyone complain if we just salary dumped him on someone? 24 hours ago I may have complained.. but at this point I want to get Garcia on the field and make room for him. Hoping we eat some salary and get something of value back tho
-
QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) In other words, someone better then Rios. Mark Gonzales @MDGonzales 1m Rios x-rays on left foot negative, listed as day to day. everyone must have been wating for the X-rays to come back negative before dealing for Alex
-
Jon Morosi @jonmorosi 34s The Rangers are aggressively pursuing offensive upgrades, according to one rival executive. Please oh please be aggressively talking with Rick Hahn about Alex Rios, Adam Dunn or Alejandro De Aza
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:09 AM) Danny Knobler @DannyKnoblerCBS 55m While Rangers haven't yet gotten anything done, clubs talking to them continue to say they've been trying as hard as anyone. Rangers have to cave and settlel for Rios at 2:50 this afternoon dont they??
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 11:04 AM) Royals still looking at Rios and Beckham according to Knobler. come on Dayton Moore you know you want some Alex Rios
-
QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:18 AM) I would feel that way if bucket hadn't made it seem like a deal was, in fact, likely Could be misreading that enigma though it seems as if both bucket and rock think Rios will be moved today.. so ill hold out hope

Peavy to Boston, Avisail Garcia + 3 low lv specs to Sox

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:09 AM) I havent heard anything legit surrounding trade talks for him. However that may change with that fireballer from Boston. That guy has future closer written all over him. so highly unlikely reed goes anywhere today.. what are the chances you think we move someone within the next 5 hours and if so who is the most likely -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) What about De Aza instead of Schierholtz? was wondering the same thing. i would think Rick woudld def be shopping De Aza out there as a cheap option to the Pirates if they do not want Rios contract
