Four selections, half an hour. Do the math -- we could be looking at a 4PM time for our selection.
-
Ha, Callis is doing worse than previous years thus far. Only 1 for 4. Jarrod Parker, Porcello, Detweiler, Aumont still on the board. I would expect Baltimore to take one of them.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) Moustakas goes 2 as BA reported. Supposedly this means the Cubs take Vitters. Do you have the link? I'm looking at Callis' projection and it's different than what you describe.
-
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 01:23 PM) not really, this morning BA reported that KC had zeroed in on him. Not only based upon this morning, but leading up to this draft Moustakas was traditionally considered a pick around 10, 11, 12.
-
Wow, already an early surprise.
-
Does it really take five minutes to decide Price is the first pick?
-
With the first pick of the 2007 draft, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays select.........JUSTIN JACKSON!!! OMG, we're screwed!11!
-
Shut your damn mouth, Selig.

I have to say if our draft board is Bumgarner, Withthrow, then Jackson, our scouts haven't been doing their drop these last several months. I honestly don't know much about Withthrow, since his name has seemingly come out of nowhere, but watching video and browing several articles it's obvious we're expecting projectability out of his arm. He sat 90mph on the scouting video. Good curveball, though. If the first pick is made by 1:30 I'll be shocked. This has all the makings of a typical ESPN event.

Judging on recent history, Callis' final mock drafts are on target early and gradually become more erratic as the first round continues. I still don't believe Porcello drops to the Rangers, but if he did, that's a one win difference between the Angels (whose pick Texas received for Gary Matthews Jr.) and the White Sox. That hurts to think about. Even as a Boras client, there's a sixty pick gap betwen 1st and 2nd selections. We could afford it.

Ha, I guarantee Jason looked at the title of the post game thread and thought the series was over. See the influence I have on this website?

Joe Crede to 15 day DL, Josh Fields called up from AAA.

QUOTE(Kalapse @ Jun 7, 2007 -> 12:05 AM) Hence why I feel sick to my stomach. Last year should have been his last with the White Sox, the writing was on the wall with him there was no way he was going to make it through the 2007 campaign without his back taking him out for a few months. Which is more the reason the White Sox need to receive good value for any players traded within the following months. Crede would likely have been replaced by Fields in 2008 regardless of his back, and now there's one less trading chip. -
Interesting: http://www.citizen-times.com/apps/pbcs.dll...ID=200770606003 I know people will insist our minor league infield depth is practically nonexistent, but I would hope Jackson isn't our first round selection. He's certainly not the "best player available" at #25, and even though I like him, it'd be my personal preference (and one I hope the organization shares) to concentrate on pitching early.

QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 11:37 PM) He's a mock draft from Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus via CNNSI.com. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/base...ctus/index.html If Porcello was available (like Goldstein thinks) for the Sox. I would be so pissed at the Sox's organization. To turn away the best high school pitcher in arguably the best high school pitching draft class in recent memeory, would be sad. Hopefully, he's available and the Sox take him, but if they didn't... Although, Alderson is a guy I really like. Imagine if Brad Radke threw in the mid to upper 90's, and that's what Alderson could be. SICK. Yeah, we discussed Goldstein's placement of Porcello in another thread. There's no way he drops out of 30. For comparison sakes, last year similar predicitons were made of Andrew Miller and Max Scherzer; both were gone by #12. I like Anderson as well. You just have to wonder whether his delivery is something you project for a starting pitcher. Watching him pitch on Mlb.com reminded me of Derrik Turnbow. It just doesn't appear very clean. If we had a compensation pick I wouldn't argue with the selection, but we need less of a red-flag. I honestly wouldn't be upset if the White Sox selected him, though. You're not going to find perfection at #25, and his numbers and scouting reports indicate the talent Anderson posseses.

QUOTE(danman31 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:56 PM) If the White Sox take Corey Brown or Brackman as those last two mock drafts predict I'd be rather embarrassed. Brackman is a high upside guy, but he has serious health concerns right now. Corey Brown would be a very good 2nd rounder as low as the Sox 2nd rounder is this year, but I don't think he is a first round talent. I agree. Personally, I just shift through different mock drafts to get a feeling of where people place different prospects. It's funny, though, how even with Callis' connection through Baseball America his infamous day-before mock drafts are frequently off. It's not as if half the board is full of names he didn't mention, but many players shift three or four spots while others drop/gain 10-15 spots. According to the information posted by WSF, Callis' 2004 and 2005 mock drafts were similar in terms of accurately forcasting the various positions. In 2004, 11 of the 30 first round draft picks were correctly guessed; none after selection 18 and 7 in the Top 10. In 2005, 9 of the 30 first round draft picks were correctly guessed; none after selection 21 and 5 in the Top 10. Even someone such as Callis, with the information he has, can't put together something the day before the amateur draft. There always a good two or three names which inexplicably drop out of the draft heavens. Maybe we'll be lucky, defy about every mock draft, and snatch up Main.

QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) Chris Young with another mammoth homer tonight. Williams owes this team a player of Chris Young's calibur. Surely if he traded Vazquez after next season he'd receive one, right?
-
QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:36 PM) Owens isn't a CF. He's nothing more than a 4th OF. His arm in CF today more than proved that point.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:15 PM) anyone got a mock draft they can post for this years first round? and sandwich picks if possible. QUOTE(South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:10 PM) If they don't turn things around soon, there is no future--at least not for a long time. They're not going to get anything for Dye the way he's playing so far. They probably won't get much for Buehrle either. Prospects are suspects, and nobody is going to give blue chip prospects for guys who are underperforming. If guys like Dye, Iguchi, Crede, Konerko and even Buerhle were performing well, the Sox would be right near the top and there would be no need to sell them off. If they don't begin to perform soon, you're not going to get anything for them. I refuse to believe that they'd receive little for Buehrle. I honestly don't care about his impending free agent status. It's Williams job. He should have his amateur scouts do their jobs and browse through the lower levels of opposing organizations. Find someone such as Liriano who has yet to establish himself with stellar numbers, yet posesses good stuff. It's simple -- either Williams plays this game of "oh well, we're not going to get anything because of A, B, or C," or he realizes the future of this ballclub depends upon the return packages. Our return to playoff contention may be shortened with the right deal.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 10:03 PM) So no game tomorrow against the Yankees? Yeah, see, I meant they've taken 2/3..............................so far. That's right
-
We're now 7.5 games out of the division lead, and after Detroit's inevitable victory, 5.5 games out of the wildcard lead with five teams to jump. If this exact scenario is unchanged in July, I expect Williams to sell off Buehrle and -- to his best efforts -- Dye. This ballclub isn't winning anything, anytime soon. Sooner Williams realizes it, the sooner he can prepare for the future.

White Sox vs. Yankees, 6/6/07 (L)
Flash Tizzle replied to southsider2k5's topic in 2007 Season in Review
Fields has roughly 15 days to prove himself in the majors. Perhaps longer if Crede's back problems don't improve. If he's hitting less than .200 with a noticeable hole in his swing which is exploited, then it's seriously time to consider revamping the entire system. For Sweeney, Anderson, Fields, Owens all to struggle is an embarrassment for this organization. -

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 07:50 PM) Knight have the bases loaded with no outs in the top of the 7th after a single by Wilson, walk by BA and single for Sweeney. Kirk Saarloos now in for the Bats. Only a matter of time before Kirk "Hanging Slider" Saarloos made his way to the minors. Watching his starts against the White Sox were some of the most frustrating events of past seasons. -
Keith, or anyone else with a subscription to Baseball America, is there any way to access Jim Callis' final mock drafts these last several years? I'm trying to determine how accurate he's been in the past. I came upon 2006, and it was off quite a bit-- only eight of the thirty first round selections were correct; five within the Top 10.

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 6, 2007 -> 06:21 PM) Broadway not impressive so far. Bases are loaded with 2 outs. Haven't seen him above 86. Broadway walks in a run. That sounds like a recipe for success in the major leagues.
