QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 26, 2007 -> 05:27 PM) Guess who won? WE DID! 24-12! WSI ain't got nothing on us! WOO! Even though only 5 (yes, FIVE) showed up, we still dominated. We had two ringers off the street that played, and they were good, but WSI couldn't stop us! We had a 7 run, 2-out "grinderific" rally! It was fantastic! How the hell did you field a team with only five players? Kudos to fellow Soxtalkians for the victory. I figured, judging from some of the ages, we'd be running their asses all around the field. BTW, what time did the game end? I drove by at about 3:30 coming from my niece's baptism party and didn't see anyone. I was hoping to make a glorious entrance. I'll suggest right now that we set up a future game sometime in early August.

I don't think anyone can doubt that Konerko wouldn't have made so much as a dive for the bal, and this game would have been 2-0. What an ending to the inning. -

Leadoff double for Tampa Bay. Let's see if they can come through, here. Like a real offense should. -

QUOTE(BearSox @ May 23, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) Michael Burgess -> Championship player Anyone have any info on the local Marist player, Tyler Newsome? I hear he is going to enter the draft after all, and turn down a full ride to Michigan St. Michael Burgess' swing -> suspect. Our concern should first and foremost be starting pitching. From what I've read it appears to be exactly that way. QUOTE(BearSox @ May 23, 2007 -> 03:35 PM) Anyone have any info on the local Marist player, Tyler Newsome? I hear he is going to enter the draft after all, and turn down a full ride to Michigan St. I've read about him occasionally. His older brother Brett is a year younger than me and attended the same grammar and junior high school. Never heard anything regarding Tyler's intention to enter the draft. Considering what he and his family have gone through these last several years, it'd be nice if he were selected within the first five rounds.

Good to see the emergence of a possible front line starter. If he continues pitching well through higher levels, then I'll be the first one to commend our international scouts for finding him.

http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines Interesting quotes. Personally, I interpret "championship players" in this context different than, say, one in which John Paxson may mention it. Whereas Paxson has used a variation of the phrase to mean players from winning programs who are complimentary pieces, I believe Williams' use of 'championship' here is someone who has great potential in his own right. I'm probably looking too much into it, though. It's just when he mentions passing up talented players who don't fit, in the past -- before calling out the scouting department and involving himself in the draft -- I would have thought this relates to finding a safe pick. Now, I'm not so sure. The last quote of the article appears to be another typical cryptic message from Williams. Almost as if he's saying, "drafting safe hasn't worked out too well; if looking for potential doesn't work either I don't know what to do."

QUOTE(kyyle23 @ May 21, 2007 -> 09:30 PM) Hawk fanned the flames of the vendetta tonite. I could almost hear Jay typing in the 2nd inning when Hawk started talking about his column. The most ironic thing is that you know that Hawk reads his columns. Perhaps you'll hear him type another column after the inevitable Harrelson shout out tonight. And if anyone here was upset with Mariotti yesterday, today's piece is even more personal.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 17, 2007 -> 10:03 AM) Flash, we talked about it before...but you need to find a way to get your ass down there. I want to talk about the organization with you FACE TO FACE! I definitely won't be there, even though I'll be in Bridgeport attending my niece's baptism. We talked about this before. They'll be another time to serve you a verbal beatdown.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 21, 2007 -> 07:31 PM) Flash, where the f*** is your rally proton accelerator???? Not. I thought about finding a new, clearer version of a proton accelerator but just haven't devoted the 10 seconds needed to browse Google. As you may notice as well, I haven't updated the McCarthy/Danks/Masset watch in my signature. Just too lazy at this moment to do anything but type on Soxtalk....and occasionally look up PRON.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 21, 2007 -> 07:30 PM) How close was Thome's out to being a homer? Hey, quit watching the game and find out why Anderson was removed.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 21, 2007 -> 07:22 PM) For anyone not following the minor league thread, Brian Anderson was pulled in the third inning. Fathom, if you're out there find out the circumstances behind his removal. Wonder if there's any coincidence to Pedro Lopez' claim off waivers and Anderson's absence? Perhaps he's about to be dealt.

Masset's start should change some minds concerning his immediate future. Not necessarily in 2007, but over the next several seasons. His fastball this afternoon was consistently 92-94 mph with movement coupled with a tight breaking ball. Considering how this was his first start major league start, sustaining good velocity through 5+ innings is rather impressive. Out of the bullpen -- where one would assume Masset might 'air out' and throw harder -- he's shown no difference in velocity from this afternoon. He's more valuable to this organization as a starter if today is any indication. The remainder of this season will determine his future. I'm sure he'll find several more spot-starts before 2007 concludes.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 20, 2007 -> 04:32 PM) No fresh prince play-by-play and commentary?? Juggles is upset about his lack of job opportunities due to an unfortunate incident and has strapped a bomb around his waste; holding everyone hostage in a convenient store.

Great, so when MacDougal fails -- as he's good for in pressure situations -- we can remove him after one/two batters.

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 20, 2007 -> 02:59 PM) AWESOME start Nick. Simply awesome. How can you, with good faith, show that hideous avatar around here? We lost yesterday. It's time to adopt another rallying cry. I present the......... Rally Proton Accelerator:
-
Dye costing his pitching staff another hit.
-
The way this bullpen has performed this series, I don't blame Guillen for pushing Masset into the 6th inning. We're going to see the relief arms for the 7th/8th/9th regardless.
-
Masset has sustained 93-94 mph the entire game. At the least, these five innings have showcased his endurance.
-
That's it, blow the whole f***ing thing up
