  2. QUOTE(Balance @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 09:34 AM) Is there anyone on the Sox current 40-man roster who you'd include? Should we be worried if there isn't? I'm not worried, but it is a little bit sad -- considering the sheer number of divisional players I'd select over anyone one player on our ballclub. I relate this entire issue to our starting rotation. To compensate for the high ceiling of pitchers within our division, we'll basically need an entire staff of #2/#3 starting pitchers. Unless a true #1 emerges out of nowhere. A lineup, by the sheer fact there are nine representatives, doesn't need a superstar -- but it will need consistency from top to bottom. Both have possible, and will need to happen if we're looking to compete within the next several years.
  3. Francisco Liriano Johan Santana Felix Hernandez If this list went 50 deep I still probably wouldn't draft more than one member of the White Sox.
  4. QUOTE(robinventura23 @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 05:44 PM) Why do we always seem to end up facing CC every d*mn series. I guess we're bound to beat him sooner or later. I was content with the offense's opening day approach to Sabathia. However, if the offense reverts to past seasons and Sabathia limits the offense to no runs and a hand full of hits, Cleveland should do everything within their power to match him up with our team every series. Hell, even if they knock him around I'd be more willing to believe it was a fluke occurrence then our hitters adjusting their gameplan accordingly.
  5. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 12, 2007 -> 01:08 AM) Just ask one of the best hitters of our time... Larry Walker. Or
  6. One of those names will fall once Lance Broadway makes it to the majors. I'm almost positive of that.
  7. Two interpretations I can draw from this slogan: 1. We're the superior Chicago baseball team. Which has been proven correct about every season the last 15 years aside from three or four. 2. We're a MEAT AND POTATOES, blue-collared baseball team which Chicagoans can relate to. All grinder-related statements can still be made. As can quotes pertaining to "winning the right way."
  8. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 08:20 PM) Well lets see what the Ozzie Guillen academy does for us. Hopefully something good. I was browsing through the names of recent, well-known pitchers from Latin American (mainly Dominican Republic and Venezuela) and noticed two common themes: one, it's possible to know the talent of a player as soon as two years following their signing; and two, it takes four/five years for someone to reach the majors. It may not be until 2009/10 when someone reaches the White Sox. But it shouldn't stop anyone from judging their talent in lower levels. Look for any player with a birthdate in 1989/1990 when Great Falls rosters are announced.
  9. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 08:11 PM) Really cool seeing him wear his idol's number and is really cool that his idol helped us get a ring. You have to wonder if Hernandez were two years younger, whether he would have been on the White Sox. It's no coincidence in my mind that he loved Garcia, who was pitching for Seattle in 2002, then happened to sign with their organization. This is why I remain hopeful for our future in Venezuela. Most pitchers take two seasons from the year they're signed to join a major league organization. We're coming up on that time period.
  10. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 08:01 PM) Someone throwing this hard, with that type of slider. This is not fair. Its like a video game. No kidding. I'm jealous of Seattle. Not of their lack of success, obviously, but they hold a legitimate ace. I'd seriously trade Contreras, Garland AND Buehrle for Hernandez.
  11. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 07:25 PM) King Felix isn't quite there yet, but if he finishes this season good (which he will) then yes he will be now and for the future. This game reminds me of last season's debut for Clemens when he faced Minnesota. The attention was on Roger, but Liriano stole the show. Similarily, Matsuzaka was drawing all the attention but Hernandez might overshadow him by nights end.
  12. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 07:11 PM) I actaully do care. I have been able to see both his starts, and he is a blast to watch. This game is a fantastic showcase of two of the best pitchers in the game. When did Liriano begin pitching, again? Although seriously, watching Hernandez, and recollecting his admiration of Garcia in native Venezuela, if there's one lasting effect Guillen should bring us -- aside from a championship -- is a pitcher of Felix's caliber. I don't care about Minaya or other ballclubs; Guillen owns that country. We should have a monopoly on outgoing talent. It's almost impossible not to imagine someone using his popularity and/or our WS championship as huge selling points. The far reaching implications of 2005 is why I'm looking forward to updated roster announcements from Great Falls/Winston Salem. It has been 18 months since our championship. We could start seeing the results.
  13. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 05:53 PM) Track Eggy in your sig too. Not unless we trade him to another team.
  14. Getz 1-2 with a HR and 2 walks, as well. Birmingham appears to have a tremendous pitching staff at hand. It'd be one hell of a problem if Egbert, Gonzalez, and Russell are all worthy of promotion to AAA come September.
  15. QUOTE(Soxy @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:38 PM) Hey Disturbia, Alfred Hitchcock called. He says hi. So did Brian De Palma. Although no one picked up the phone.
  16. I'm pleasantly surprised Buehrle calmed down after the first inning. I thought for sure Masset would have been in before the fourth. While the offense couldn't muster anything off Joe Kennedy, I suppose its encouraging they could hit Justin Duscherer and Houston Street. Great win.
  17. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 04:01 PM) Great job JD. JD = his 2005, first two month alter ego -- DEAD
  18. QUOTE(CYGarland @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 03:54 PM) If anything, Anderson should be a late inning defense replacement for Pods In addition, Guillen should put serious consideration for substituting Anderson/Mackowiak for Dye as a late inning defensive replacement, depending upon our lead and the ballpark's dimensions. He just appears to have lost an additional step from last season. It's maddening watching him chase a baseball.
  19. I suggest for any moderators reading this thread to officially add Podsednik's gaffe from yesterday as an emotion. It deserves to be immortalized. And Thome up with no one on. This hasn't happened many times this season /sarcasm.
  20. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 03:34 PM) Maybe we can work the pitch count on this Ace pitcher You're completely undervaluing Kennedy. You see, atleast he has good control...... What? Well, what about good stuff? No that either? Well, he's deceptive, right? Oh, yeah, just another scrub pitcher who embarrasses our VAUNTED lineup. This is why we can't touch Santana. We can't even beat the Kennedy's of the world.
  21. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 02:12 AM) Couldn't agree more. Between his hip issue last year, and his tightness during ST, Jenks doesn't seem to get the same extension and follow-thru on his pitches. He's basically an offspeed pitcher right now with a fastball that he tries to throw for strikes and set the hitter up. If MacDougal has to become the closer, then we put inexperienced guys like Aardsma or Masset into the set-up spot. Let's just hope that Jenks isn't this year's Shingo/Politte, etc. Let's hypothesize here that Jenks doesn't regain lost velocity and sits around 93-94mph. Even with such a fastball, Jenks has quality offspeed pitches within his arsenal. His cutter isn't half bad, either. If he showcases the changeup seen in the Indians series, his production should easily exceed that of Shingo and Politte. I'm not happy about the prospect of a declining Jenks, but we have two major league capable closers already in the bullpen. Jenks at ~4.25ERA still isn't terrible if other relievers hold their own and fill in during the 9th inning.
