  1. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:41 AM) There you go, OG is blind. I suppose this leaves Anderson as someone destined to have no more than 150 AB's. If he considers Podsednik's defense this first week as "good," then it'll take 5 months for doubt to creep into his mind. Erstad such as hell isn't going anywhere, and Ozuna is a "Muela" -- Spanish translation of 'grinder.'
  2. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:21 AM) I don't know. We seem to second guess everything he does, or doesn't do, so maybe to him, it's regular not to make defensive replacements, or make bullpen changes too often, etc. What we never seem to find out is why Ozzie does what he does. Not everything he does -- only the painfully obvious decisions which somehow, for some reason, are overlooked.
  3. Don't make me include this in my signature again, Buehrle: ( + ) x / =
  4. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:07 AM) We've faced two bad offensive teams now in Minnesota and Oakland. I'm not so sure that the pitching can keep it up though with Indians and Rangers coming up. I'm actually a bit apprehensive about facing Cleveland and Texas. More than usual. Are we watching the pitching staff reach their full potential, or merely exploit weak offensive ballclubs? Even without a radar reading (which mysteriously wasn't present until MacDougal), Garland appeared to get away with a lot of pitches. The umpires calling high strikes benefited him immensely. And Buehrle wasn't exactly cruising when Garko's line drive hit him last week.....
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:06 AM) Someone just called in from the site. What was the question from the caller and PFB's response?
  6. QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 01:00 AM) even with jenks let down tonight his velocity will come back, i have faith, he started out last season like that and has gone on record a few times stating thats just the way it works out for him. Next season, if Jenks arm is still attached, I want him to either begin Spring Training several weeks earlier or not have a guaranteed position as closer entering April. By then, who knows, he may not have such confidence out of Guillen. What I do know is waiting several weeks for velocity to return shouldn't be an issue every.....damn....year. Especially from our supposed closer. Either he gains strength entering the season or becomes a middle inning reliever until the fastball sits around 96-98.
  7. QUOTE(Wanne @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:26 AM) I just saw another replay. It DID NOT hit the wall first. Right off the dome. CLTV showed the replay as well. The baseball did not deflect off the wall first, or at all. And Caulfield, I've like your posts this far -- but this is where you look like an idiot. You only make it worse by saying quotes such as: No they won't.
  8. QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Apr 11, 2007 -> 12:16 AM) It bounced off his head on the rebound. And Canseco is a huge guy, Pods isn't. If countless fans across major league baseball can bare-hand catch home runs and fouls balls without shattering their hands, I'm sure a major league ballplayer is capable of sustaining the force of a drifting fly ball hitting them atop their caps.
  9. Let's see if Guillen adds upon his poor decisions and leaves out Podsednik against Kennedy tomorrow instead of shifting Erstad to LF. Anderson will play regardless (atleast according to previous comments by Ozzie), but I'm curious whether the coaches will attempt to ensure our leadoff hitters confidence remains.
  10. QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 11:58 PM) Well, it's only been 7 games, but at least KW looks like a genius for not extending Crede or Dye. I wish Dye would make himself look good and guarantee us Class A compensation when he leaves. Watching Dye trudge through mud (aka field a ball in the outfield) is a hell of a lot easier when he's producing. Not the recent example of looking like a minor leaguer and failing to lay off insider pitches.
  11. QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 10, 2007 -> 11:55 PM) Pods should have caught that ball. Ozzie shouldn't have had him in there in such a close game. Typical excuses. It's not 100% their fault (Bobby gets the burden), but they are still part of the problem. There's no guarantee we would have won the game, but Jesus, if the ball can hit you in the head obviously it shouldn't be too difficult to place your arm above it and complete an out to end the inning.
  12. I believe a baseball hitting Podsednik on the head counts as a typical Oakland freak occurrence. You can blame Jenks for giving up the hits, but you certaintly can't blame him for overthrowing the catcher or failing to catch a flyball.
  13. QUOTE(Jimbo @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 10:27 AM) Weird things happen in Oakland...im scared You can usually count on one fluke play a series benefiting Oakland. I'm going to say Podsednik will attempt to field a long fly ball at the LF wall, misplay it, and have it touch his glove and fly over the fence for a HR. This HR will be the deciding factor in the game.
  14. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 9, 2007 -> 08:05 AM) Why? Because it is not a great art film? No movie really deserves a remake. If a movie was great, why re-do it, and if it was bad, why re do it? If a re-make is done well, it could work. Halloween may not be on the level of Gone With the Wind or Casablanca, but it was key in the horror genre and film history, IMO. No, because it's a great film period. Point here is, where is the line drawn? First Texas Chainsaw Massacre, then Halloween; next it'll be A Nightmare on Elm Street, Hellraiser, etc. Remake any of the hundreds of movies with good ideas and poor execution before touching a horror classic.
  15. QUOTE(Sonik22 @ Apr 8, 2007 -> 10:57 PM) Is anybody else pumped for Rob Zombie's remake of Halloween? Hell no. Halloween doesn't deserve a hip, fresh, psychedelic-infused 2007 adaption. And I'm not one to complain about Hollywood churning out remake after remake, either. Certain movies -- such as "Hills Have Eyes" and "Assault on Precinct 13" -- were cult classics previously unknown to the general public. Remakes are well received (at least in my opinion) in situations such as these. I'll list several movies right here I'd consider a remake before Halloween: Suspiria, Bad Taste, Demons, Dellamorte Dellamore. All are foreign-based films which could be further enhanced with a budget and some creative minds. What's a shame is there's no shortage of material out in the world. Countless horror novels are available which have yet to be touched. I'd love it if someone made a movie out of one of my favorite horror-themed novels by Robert McCammon called, "Boy's Life." One remake which I'm looking forward to (because the book was tremendous) is "I Am Legend." It has been done several times, under different pretenses, but even with Will Smith I'm hoping it will hold some of the book's uniqueness.
  16. Well, good to know that Dye and Thome don't know how to recognize a fastball. Or a hanging breaking ball. And Pierzynski's game ending grounder was delicious.
  17. Another embarrassing performance against Santana. Anyone else realize in the last two starts against lefties (Sowers and Santana) we have only 2 hits? That's pathetic.
  18. QUOTE(Craig Grebeck @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 12:34 PM) Gomez, Aybar, and Callaspo are all brutal offensively. Jacoby would be interesting, but I just don't see the Red Sox parting with him. Red Sox won't trade him. They're more likely to trade Crisp in a few seasons than block Ellsbury or let him go. White Sox just have to develop their own leadoff talent. And pitching talent. And catching talent. And middle infield talent. And quality outfielders who actually remain on the ballclub.
  19. QUOTE(LVSoxFan @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) Ironically it's colder right now than it was last night had they played the game. It is chilly, 20s. But who cares! I'm goin anyway! I'm willing to believe the cold would have been tolerable if not for the worn out bullpen.
  20. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 02:25 AM) I'm a sucker for Tarantino movies. I know there's a bit of controversy surrounding him, but I've loved every movie of his besides Hostel. Tarantino was merely the executive producer of Hostel. Such a title within the film industry is the equivalent of someone with political influence hiring a relative to hold an easy job, yet, still receive a paycheck. I'm sure the filmmakers didn't mind as it allowed them to attach his name to the film. Far as Grindhouse, would you say Planet Terror was more enjoyable than Death Proof? A friend of mine told me earlier that Death Proof was an incredible letdown.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 01:19 AM) I actually kinda like the concept of Danks/Santana on Sunday. Throw the kid into the fire and see what he's got. We brought him up from essentially AA because we were convinced he was ready to handle it mentally. What better way to see whether the kid has the balls that we're told he has? We already gambled on screwing the kid up by bringing him up so fast...I don't think this is that big of a gamble on top of that. Give him a challenge and see if he can handle it. But in another way, It's kind of disheartening for Danks to oppose Santana. Almost as if Guillen is conceding a loss and figures it won't matter who goes out. He wasn't scheduled to pitch in place of Contreras until earlier this afternoon. Something changed their minds. Whether they're intent on giving Count an extra day of rest, I don't know. He'll already have had 5 days of rest going into Sunday's game. And considering how Contreras didn't exact overwork himself in spring training, I don't know why he wouldn't be ready Sunday; unless there is actual concern about his health. Even a manager as crazy as Gullen wouldn't start Danks over Contreras if not for a legitimate reason.
  22. Black Sheep Trailer-- Horror/Comedy
  23. QUOTE(bardsroom attendant @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 10:17 PM) Reports are that Danks goes against Santana on Sunday...uh oh. Great, now people already have a built in excuse if he wets himself. "Cmon, did you actually expect him to win against Santana?!" "It probably tore down his confidence knowing he'd have to be perfect" "How many pitchers succeed immediately upon arrival?" All I'm expecting from his is to keep us in the game. Even against Santana, if he goes 5/6 innings and doesn't give up more than 4 runs it should be considered a success. This is hardly unreasonable.
