Cormac McCarthy's "The Road." Buy it. Now. Don't be fooled by the 'Oprah Book Club' sticker, either. It's a book about a father and son traveling across America in a post apocalyptic world. From the little I've read, it's a tremendous book. I'm into the entire, world-gone-to-hell genre and after reading a synopsis of the book in the Tribune I decided to buy it. Well worth the money. I have to give the lady credit for recommending it. You wouldn't expect such a subject matter to be presented for the housewives of America. If they're expecting "The Road" to represent some metaphorical road of love between two distant lovers they're in for a treat.

QUOTE(BobDylan @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 12:14 AM) With that pitching staff, I don't think it's that far fetched. Colon/Lackey/Weaver/Escobar is pretty damn good. Oh, and that Fransico Rodriguez guy, he's not bad either. You're forgetting Ervin Santana.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 30, 2007 -> 12:04 AM) we have a pair of brazilians one being anderson gomes and cant remember the other ones name who from all i have heard are oozing with talent even with the lack of production they put forth last season. Than I could of swore there was someone else, not Sanchez, that could have a good season. Paulo Orlando is the other Brazilian. Cunningham has atleast shown himself capable of handing A-level pitching. Gomes and Orlando, judging from the stats, appear a ways off.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 11:45 PM) And we have a couple OF's that have a chance to get promoted sometime this season that would add some pop to that lineup. In the meantime the rotation should keep things interesting for them. Which OFs, aside from Cunningham, do you believe have a chance for promotion?

Guillen Not Worried About Sox's Spring...

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 10:42 PM) could've sworn they won 99 games in '05 They did. Someone screwed up in the fact checking department. -
http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines I'll keep these quotes handy in the future when people try to distance Williams from Floyd's failures.

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:59 PM) I invited the following people with their date: Jphat and Scott Podsednik SSI and Greg Walker Flash and Liriano Santo/Dorf and Zambrano Rangercal and Frank Thomas Jimbo and Julian Wright We'll be there. Where's JimH's invitation?

QUOTE(danman31 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:48 PM) Unless things have changed Russell is viewed as a reliever. I was slightly surprised to see him in AA again. With a good spring and a possible move to the pen you'd think they could push him to Charlotte after 10 starts in Bham last year. Even if the organization views Russell as a potential reliever, I wouldn't see the problem in allowing him an opportunity to start in Birmingham. Atleast have an idea after ~150IP in AA whether his future rests in a starting rotation.

QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:14 PM) Ok, whats your point? Danks will probably replace Mark in 2008, and is two months older than Miller... Miller possess a 96 mph fastball and a devastating slider. He has ace potential -- Danks doesn't. A starting three of Miller/Verlander/Bonderman should scare the crap out of every White Sox fan. We just can't compete with this. Yeah, you know the rest. I don't feel like getting into the issue. I'm just saying that when Rogers leaves or is injured (whichever occurs first), it's not going to be pretty when Miller shows up.

QUOTE(WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:51 PM) Nice to see they didn't push Gio to AAA. I imagine he'll end the season in AAA if everything goes well. I'm just hoping his improvements for this season make it possible to be seriously considered as a starting candidate in 2008. Russell as well.
-
QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 08:00 PM) You kill me Flash. The guy has 15 Professional innings in baseball. So? He'll probably replace Rogers in 2008 if everything goes as planned. Perhaps sooner if Rogers arm falls off.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:44 PM) Do you really want the Sox to flip Buehrle for another Gavin Floyd and ex-Sox prospect? You're sounding more and more cynical this offseason. It's strange to read. You should know more than anyone else that's not what I, or many -- including fathom -- would want. I still believe if we're looking to compete within the next five year period we'll need a #1 or #2 to emerge from within our system or via trade. This should be the goal of every deal involving pitching from this point onwards. Don't just deal to deal; or take less to receive your guys (ie Floyd). We have enough back end guys, as it is. Dealing Buehrle midseason really depends upon his statistics and the team's position in the standings. If he's the Buehrle of old, there's a chance he may receive Class A compensation and net us two draft choices. Trading him under such circumstances isn't necessary. However, if he's medicore, then Williams may be better off trading him than taking one Class B draft selection. Even then, I don't expect us to receive crap for him. Yeah, a team probably won't give up a stud prospect; but you can never guess another club's desperation. Off topic, but why did WSI ban you? Was it because of the poll you created about poor offseason moves?

Kenny Rogers Is going to be out for a while.

QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:33 PM) and he's apparently added a change up to his arsenal, and they've always said he needs a 3rd pitch to go with the slider and heater to make him an ace. Bonderman is an example of a pitcher any team is quite capable of selecting if they're willing to take a chance. He was selected 26th overall in 2001. That's why I dismiss people who complain about our lack of Top 10 draft selections. Take a risk and perhaps stray from the "safe" selections and a team such as the White Sox may have a Jeremy Bonderman. -
11 strikeouts for Barons pitching.

Sisco must be in trouble. It's taking MLB Gameday quite a while to update. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:15 PM) Trust me the statement means nothing. Ozzie wants to put his speedy no hit guys up ontop just to have visions of what once was in Florida. If anything, Anderson's HR only reaffirms Guillen's decision to have him as a late inning defensive replacement/pinch hitter
-
QUOTE(caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:07 PM) Uribe had a two run RBI before BA's homer. Now we'll see if the bullpen can actually hold a lead, if Ozzie plays this one out for 'real' or just development. We need a win, big time. I don't know, I'm kind of hoping for anarchy at this point. It'd just be funnier if we were to battle back against the immortal Barons pitching staff to take the lead, only to have Sisco blow the game.
-
QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 07:03 PM) less so with the gambler going on the DL. About time something bad happened to that team. Even if Rogers pitches terribly, and possibly endures injury throughout the season, they'll have Andrew Miller available. We don't have an Andrew Miller, unfortunately.
-
QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 06:55 PM) obviously our major league team is just trying to boost the morale of our AA team. Maybe we're showcasing every pitcher this evening and feel the need to make them look good.

4-1 Barons. Aardsma gives up an additional run.

THIS KEEPS GETTING BETTER Wing with 2 more strikeouts!

QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 06:41 PM) If the Sox are going to be crappy this year, I hope they're out of the race by July 28th. I'm not so sure I'm going to be able to watch their home night game on that Saturday. You know they wont be. They'll be just close enough at the division (~6 games) to where fans and management are divided in what to do.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 06:33 PM) 3 hits through 6 for the sox. 7ks for the mighty barons of AA. Our table setters are 0-6. Just an overall terrible day for Estad.

QUOTE(minorsfan @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 06:26 PM) Oh joy, add another error to Erstad's tally (fielding!!!!) Jesus. I love how everyone of these Birmingham pitchers are just blazing through our lineup. Carlos Vasquez couldn't even throw a damn strike in spring training and now he's striking out two of our hitters!?! Honestly, I would be ecstatic about this production from our AA club on any other day. Against the major league team, it's just not very pretty to watch.

QUOTE(3 BeWareTheNewSox 5 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 05:59 PM) Thanks man! I was going refresh crazy on mlb.com which doesn't even have lineups So this is basically what Ozzie wants on Opening Day huh? (Obviously Thome and Mack switched. Well, with Ozzie...) I don't know, I'd rather keep Iguch at 2 and have Erstad lower in the order As would many of us. 0-4, 2 k's and 3 LOB thus far for Podsednik and Erstad. Birmingham pitching appears to be giving it to the White Sox. Only 3 hits and 1 run allowed through four innings with 4 strikeouts. Guillen has to be pulling out his hair watching this game.

http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/mlb/gameda...1&brand=cws Tie game now. Oh joy, Erstad committed an error fielding. Guess which position he's at?
