  1. QUOTE(whitesox07champs @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 06:25 PM) That is a dumb argument. To me the point is to stay in it until september and then we see which teams have what it takes to get it done. Do you really think a team is gonna take ALL 162 games seriously? I would love to think that but im not that stupid. Just ask the Cardinals last year. Good teams turn it on when they have to and other ones choke it away! Uh, yeah. Why not try to win from April to September, and in September, "turn it on?"
  2. First month will tell us everything we need to know about this ballclub. This is how the schedule plays out: 3 games vs. CLE 3 games vs. MIN 3 games @ OAK 3 games @ CLE 3 games vs. TEX 3 games @ DET 2 games @ KC 2 games vs. DET 3 games vs. LAA 25 games; 14 games at home, 16 against divisional teams, 23 against teams expected to be .500 or over.
  3. QUOTE(beck72 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 05:14 PM) Thome was the only regular hitting today. The K's I'm not concerned about. Let's wait until the regular season starts before we get worried about either the pitching or hitting. Let's keep everyone healthy for Monday. See, this is what will happen -- if the pitching or hitting doing fare well, you'll say, "let's wait until May." And, if nothing improves, it'll become the second half. I don't believe it's unreasonable to show concern towards the starting five. Compare their ST numbers to those within our division. Of Cleveland, Minnesota, and Detroit I believe only Verlander and Silva have statistics close to our starting five. 20 innings or not, I'm more worried that divisional teams have taken spring training more seriously than our pitchers. Or, rather, are more prepared. We just can't begin poorly. Everyone has to be ready from Game 1.
  4. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 04:56 PM) Because it involves a back-upcatcher I would think the players that we add that are close to Major League ready helps get some better ceiling guys. Logan and Haegar are good pitchers the back-up catcher would be more of throw in to a deal. How is Toronto's catching situation, they need an arm or two..... Forget about Iannetta. Colorado released Javy Lopez specifically to give him playing time. Concerning Toronto, it'd be great to land their catching prospect Curtis Thigpen. Cregg Zauhn won't be going anywhere anytime soon and he's backed up by Phillips. He'd be a good backup now, and in the future, a replacement for Pierzynski
  5. QUOTE(Jenks Heat @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 04:36 PM) I get the feeling he and Boone are going to be packaged for a nice deal somewhere. I think they added Aardesma and Sisco to the roster with the intention of making a move before the start of the season and not optioning them due to this. A back-up catcher and good young arm in return. I despise the idea of combining Haeger and Boone for anything involving a backup catcher -- great or not. But if it were to occur, with Colorado -- for example -- I'd include the following: Franklin Morales Chris Ianneta Additional piece Begins and ends there. Period.
  6. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 04:31 PM) Absolutely Showcase Haeger if they want, but if we have any intention of trading him it should be for an absolute killing on our behalf. No "fair deals" or crap about "he's a knuckleballer and doesn't have value." Either we come out immediately in the deal, or don't even bother. However anyone feels about Haeger, we'll need him in case the 5th starters fiasco becomes 2004 all over again.
  7. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 04:04 PM) WTF are you talking about. I wasn't saying anything about Garland or the game today. I was just saying I'll be interested in seeing Colorado's offense throughout the season. They have a lot of interesting young hitters. Why does every statement on this f***ing board have to be somebody pushing some f***ing agenda. It's ridiculous. :uhoh Someones getting a bit cranky!
  8. QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 03:39 PM) Is that only his 2nd good ST outing? Probably the best since his first appearance, which was only a few innings.
  9. QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 03:30 PM) Garland now has 6 innings under his belt. Last five innings: 2 hits, no walks. still 4-0 Rocks. Much better. I guess it's possible to shut down the vaunted Colorado offense. Brandon McCarthy's pitching line from today: 5 innings, 3 hits, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 SO, 1 HR
  10. QUOTE(jphat007 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 02:50 PM) I am really interested in seeing how many runs the Rockies score this year. They have a really, really good lineup. And Garland? Doesn't good pitching shut down good hitting?
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 09:26 AM) This is exactly it. everyone blaming Ozzie for this spring hasn't gotten it by now, they might never get it. For all of the talking Ozzie does, his opinion doesn't mean a damned thing. He wanted Brian Anderson gone, he is on the team. He is getting stuck with all of Kenny Williams aquisitions from over the winter, until further notice. This is all about Kenny Williams looking good. Ozzie hasn't factored in her at all. If these guys suck, Kenny Williams is the one who needs to be put on notice. This is exactly it. If Anderson is on this team over Guillen's preference, Terrero, it's obvious his personal choices for roster positions can be overruled. I believe many around here assume Guillen holds more weight because he supposedly influenced Williams to adopt a small-ball approach to the team entering 2005. With Danks, it'll be interesting to see which pitcher from Charlotte is immediately promoted if he isn't doing well. IMO, Haeger should be the first choice. We'll see if Williams is willing to push his own guy, Floyd. If the results favor Floyd I'll understand. But I don't think they will, so we'll see what happens.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 01:22 PM) CC expects to be ready for opening day. This doesn't surprise me. This spring training has been frustrating, and Sabathia's absence from the Indians rotation would indicate something positive -- which is impossible. I'm still hoping beyond hope the Indians feel starting him Monday isn't worth the risk.
  13. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:23 AM) Well, I think everyone can agree that you are the most/best pessimist on this board. If anyone wants that distinction they'll have to take it from my cold, lifeless....internet....fingers. Or something. /profile
  14. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) Yet you still do it. I don't quite feel the urges anymore. My boy Liriano going down has drained the engergy out of me.
  15. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:08 AM) LOL. Fine Kalapse, you're in the top 5. And don't even try to tell me there's 3 other people in here besides Tizzle and Fathom that complain more than you. Yet you still do it. Poppy Hidalgo (whose birthday no one acknowledged yesterday) Hideaway Lights southsideirish71 (mick bastard)
  16. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:02 AM) Most of Flash's complaining is about our minor leagues. I don't even pay attention to that anymore. Will agree to disagree on Ozzie. Complaints which have been validated by Williams himself (signature) and the restocking of our system this offseason.
  17. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Mar 29, 2007 -> 12:00 AM) Oh I know there's people on this board who despise me because I b**** so damn much and you know what? I love to read them b**** about me b****ing, there's some just so b****in' about it. WORDS ARE FUN. And that is such bulls***, Flash b****es WAY more than I do. All that guy does is complain. That's not the way he sees it.
  18. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:52 PM) this season can't start soon enough Spot f***ing on.
  19. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:48 PM) It'll atleast be more justified to curse the team to hell if they fail to perform. What if the team starts 20-8? Then everybody can play the "I always had faith. I was just worried. I'll eat my crow" card. I'll gladly eat crow. I was wrong in 2005 and admitted it. It's not that I expect failure so I can point and say, "I knew it." It's just how I feel regarding this ballclub. Too many question marks in the wrong league, in the wrong division. All of which have to be resolved from the beginning considering our tough schedule.
  20. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:32 PM) It all starts Monday. Let's see how it plays out. Difference beginning Monday is if the White Sox are bad, all our criticism onto the team will be justified. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2007 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:39 PM) I'm not defending Ozzie or the move, but we did see this movie last year. Maybe they're not confident in his ability to get major leaguers out yet? Maybe they want him to get a little more run down at Charlotte? It's not out of the question. It's not, although I would say Logan looks far more ready for major league competition than Sisco.
  21. If I know what I know, there are members of the media who read this message board. Please, anyone -- if you have an opportunity to interview Guillen, can you just ask him one simple question -- "you've said last week that those who perform well will make the team. How is it someone with a 0.00ERA didn't?" Maybe someone did and we'll read about it tomorrow. I just don't think a decision like this should pass without serious questioning. Hell, even DJ mentioned on the broadcast yesterday that Logan is the obvious favorite for one of the two spots.
  22. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 11:03 PM) HA! I'm sorry but I had to chuckle from this sentence. Depth my ass. There's no many question marks up and down that.... well... I suck at telling jokes, just being goofy is my style. Last season, after the starting five it was McCarthy and Haeger. Bullpen options in the minor leagues weren't very pretty, and Logan wasn't going to be immediately considered after his bed wetting. Broadway wouldn't have been rushed from AA, either. This season, after the starting five you have Massett (probably as a last resort), Haeger, Floyd, Broadway. The bullpen depth, atleast based upon potential, is noticeably deeper. All of 2006's additions are available for opening day. Haeger may have also thrown himself into the mix as a bullpen piece with his September performance from last season. Point is, we could have easily allowed Sisco an opportunity to stretch out for a rotation spot. Judging from spring training, he still has quite a ways to go. It just doesn't seem to me this current White Sox team would lose much short-term with such a decision.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) Quite ironic that some of us have been fighting all Spring Training for Logan and Anderson to make it, as I'm sure others are like me in not exactly thinking these guys are world beaters. For me personally, it's all about the message the organization is sending, as well as the incompetence of our manager to evaluate personnel. Even without tangible proof available (other than statistics), I believe Williams entered spring training with the preconceived notion that atleast four of his offseason acquisitions (via trade) would make the ballclub. You have: Floyd Gonzalez Massett Danks Aardsma Sisco He probably felt Floyd would earn the 5th starters spot (and was anointed the favorite early) and Massett, Aardsma, Sisco would enter the bullpen. Danks earning the position in the 5th role allowed Williams to somewhat save face and send down Floyd. Can anyone seriously suggest anyone aside from Danks earned a roster position? In a perfect world, Aardsma and Sisco would be in AAA and Haeger and Logan would be preparing for Chicago. I'm still wondering how Massett was basically handed a bullpen spot last week... Doubt me if you will, but it sure wouldn't look good for Williams if only a couple names from the offseason were to make the ballclub.
  24. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 10:45 PM) I think the plan might be the same with BMac as I feared. Grooming him in the pen, letting him taste some ML hitting then put him in the rotation in 08'. At least that's my personal opinion on this. What's so difficult about stretching him out in Charlotte? As much as I disliked inserting McCarthy into the bullpen prior to 2006, it was understood his role was to provide multiple innings in the event a veteran starter is either ineffective or injured. For this season, there's no need to have Sisco occupy such a role due to the bullpen and starting pitching depth. Logan could easily make it possible to have him in Charlotte. Yet, why was this ignored?
  25. QUOTE(greg775 @ Mar 28, 2007 -> 10:23 PM) Logan should have made the team based on those stats. I know it doesn't matter what players think, but it has to be demoralyzing for team morale to see a guy with an 0.00 not make the team. I'm assuming Logan is not some jerk who the players hate. If he's a decent guy and does not have some personality flaw I think he should have made the team. I mean what more can a guy do?? Even if he does have an attitude problem, who cares? I'd like to believe conflicts between players and management (if they exist) can be resolved for the sake of our ballclub. Of the two remaining bullpen positions, Logan was the obvious choice. Sure, spring training statistics don't matter, but they should when someone has shown themselves worthy of a roster position. Now, since they obviously feel giving Sisco and Aardsma (two guys traded for) chances over Logan, then I should hope that if their struggling for an extended period of time either are sent down immediately.
