QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:13 PM) That reminds me of that one game in 2003 when the umps wouldn't delay the game and Maggs had no chance on a flyout against who else, Oakland. That's the game he's talking about. It was Mulder against Buehrle. NICE heads up move by Juan tagging him. I thought right away he may have assumed the force was still in order and not tag Swisher.

I'm glad Vazquez waited 4 innings to have a fastball above 86 mph.

QUOTE(santo=dorf @ May 23, 2006 -> 05:29 PM) As I posted in another thread, I heard Dempster add something like "With him swinging away (something about throwing wild punches)" right after saying "most bush thing I've ever seen." He answered North's first part of the question, but never said anything about Cora biting someone. Well, then someone definitely mixed with the audio because on CSN i didn't hear the second part. It jumped right from "most bush thing I've ever seen" to talking about "being on the other side of the white line."

What was that, hanging slider #10 for Sarloos this game? Crede let a good 3-1 pitch go.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 23, 2006 -> 08:02 PM) That was a strike. Even if it does turn into a run, I wish it were called a strike. Reason is the umpire will either not call it for Vazquez/whomever else with a similar pitch, or give an Oakland pitcher a generous call to make up for it. Still 5 innings left. Need a consistent zone with actual pitches called.

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:58 PM) Well, so far we have: 1.) Little s***ty hits starting off rallies for the opposition 2.) A Sox pitcher choking 3.) An Eric Chavez homer 4.) An ump f***ing us in the ass Yeah, it's definitely an A's game. It hasn't happened yet, but expect a flukely play at some point.

QUOTE(BigSqwert @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:55 PM) Ugh...this might be a long game. Vazquez is REALLY beginning to irritate me. He's taken over Garland's spot with giving up the big-inning.

QUOTE(fathom @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:24 PM) Saarloser is lucky that Crede didn't get under that high sinker. I haven't called him "Hanging Slider" Sarloos for nothing these last few years. Seriously, every game I've seen him pitch he's hanging sliders left and right. Last year in Oakland--when he pitched well against our lineup--Hawk must have said "Had a good pitch to hit and missed it" atleast 15 times. He's one of the those pitchers you have no idea how he succeeds. Yeah, keep the ball down and Sarloos is fine. But even raise his slider belt-high and above he's toast. Has to be on his game every start.

QUOTE(Lefty Of Love @ May 23, 2006 -> 09:00 AM) His windup and motion are really smooth and easy and then he brings some 97 mph heat. If this guy can learn to throw a changeup with that same motion & delivery, game over. And if not, we still have the big dude to come in and throw gas from the right side Observing Thornton yesterday, his delivery dramatically slowed down while throwing offspeed pitches. This is the first problem to overcome, which is entirely mental. Cheat and CWS are correct in assessing his slider as rather flat. IMO, it's not entirely necessary for him to have an explosive, biting secondary pitch. Even at his current stature as a 80% fastball, 20% slider pitcher, you throw it for a strike it's another thought for hitters. Important factor is repeating his delivery. I'll cite the slider he threw to Jacque Jones on Saturday. Not that it would have mattered much--as Jones is pathetic against LHP--but it was the best he's thrown this year. It's encouraging for two reasons: one, he wasn't fearful of throwing it to a lefthander; and second, it buckled Jones. BTW, if Thornton ever developed a halfway decent changeup to compliment a slider and a 97mph fastball, I'd stretch him for the rotation. Although that's merely a pipedream now.....

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 23, 2006 -> 01:54 PM) Jaques even said this didn't happen FWIW. This is all Mike North telling half truths mixed in with a couple of lies. Good job idiot. Let's not entirely blame North here. Dempster is claiming to misquoted, but what exactly was he referring to being the "most bush thing he's ever seen?" When North asks about the bite just before he says that quote, what else are we led to believe? The other alleged quotes about Guillen's kids were never mentioned on replays, so i don't know about that. North may have embellished that information.
-
Dempster looks terrible now. He's recanting his story like a little school boy b****. Comcast Sports Net ran his comments off The Score, then Guillen's response, then Dempster's extended rant. He's really going off now, suggesting he was "misquoted" and essentially blaming Mike North. I don't have the exact words available, but North basically asks about Cora biting someone, to which Dempster replies it was one of the most "bush things he's ever seen." You could infer from those comments that he witnessed the act with his own eyes. Next sentence, Dempster says Cora's behind the white line for a reason; if he's going to get involved, he'll end up injured. Dempster back peddled when interviewed about these comments. It's easy to say you were misquoted in print, or perhaps taken out of context with soundclips--but when something is played without interruption it's difficult to misinterpret.

Game Thread: 5/22/06 White Sox vs. A's

This completely erases yesterday's loss against the Cubs. More than winning to keep pace with Detroit, this win happened against OAKLAND. The team that has had our number. I said in the chat--and in this thread--when Ozuna had the mistake it was exactly the type of flukely play in pasts years against Oakland which let to losses. Not this time. I feel good knowing Beane must feel upset. -

THERE YOU GO! There's the flukely play against Oakland which will cost us. Happens every game. -

I knew before today's game every call was going to go against us with Eddings. His reputation was ruined last offseason. As much as we like to believe umpires aren't impartial, there have been numerous strikes called agaisnt us hitters--and not against our ptichers--throughout the entire game. Tell me Thome's pitch wasn't a ball. His zone is apparently wherever he believes it should be. Sometimes the corners will be called, othertimes they won't. -

QUOTE(Heads22 @ May 22, 2006 -> 09:15 PM) If Mark ptiches tomorrow we have problems. Easy Heat K's Frank. Vazquez tomorrow then, right? My fault. I thought Buehlre was tomorrow. He must be pitching Wednesday. -

Our team better come around and win the next two games. Need to avoid losses while Detroit is fattening up against Kansas City. Buehrle needs to step up and pitch tomorrow against Oakland. I don't care if they've hit him well in the past, he has to work around it. -

I'm glad Garland decided to disgrace himself tonight with a 3-3, 2HR, 2B performance from Thomas. Nothing like sticking it to your old club on the diamond. I had a feeling it would happen this series. -

Is there an outside corner with Eddings? -
Looks like that brawl really turned a corner for the Cubs!!! 4-0 Marlins in the Top of the 4th. Marshall should consider himself lucky Miguel Olivo grounded into an inning ending double play.

QUOTE(greasywheels121 @ May 22, 2006 -> 04:32 PM) Mariotti will still find time to bash the Sox tomorrow in his column, but for the record, on ATH he said that the fans should give Frank a standing ovation because he was the greatest White Sox player ever. I expect a huge flip flop tomorrow. That may have been the first time he has ever complimented Thomas without labeling hiim as the "Big Blurt." Too bad he'll have nothing to write about our fans, since they'll give him a standing ovation.

Yeah, I'd like to know when our offense hit three HR's off Santana and scored 4 runs within the last several seasons.

Paul Sullivan. There's a thread in the Diamond Club about Hendry/McPhail calling him into their office to discuss his reporting of the Cubs.
