QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ May 21, 2006 -> 05:48 AM) I refuse to link it, but if you feel like gagging please read the Moron's column this morning. Pay close attention to his word choices. It's almost like he bet someone he could write an article taking Barrett's side. Exactly how I feel. http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...0entry1140783

"Pierzynski's Rep The Instigator" I realize Mariotti's angle. I realize he'll sway opinions from article to article--one day praising the Sox, another dismissing them. But this latest drivel struck a nerve with me. I couldn't just push it off without b****ing online. Most of you don't care what he says. That's fine. Most instances, neither do I. Similar to the topic of unfair representation of our ballclub in both local and national media outlets, I'm not one to become upset. It's when one takes a faulty position based entirely upon flimsy arguments and past situations which have NO bearings to yesterday's events which upset me. Terry Boers calls it, "baseball retarded;" and in this instance, Mariotti has been stricken with it. I have to admit, I was anticipating his article. I take them as comedic fodder capable of brightening most dreary mornings. They've become more of an interesting account into the mind of a maniac. After Barrett's assault on AJ yesterday--one where basically EVERYONE from Jeff Brantley to Carl Ravich acknowledged AJ as innocent--I assumed a funny account of the Cubs hitting rock bottom this morning. Damn, was I way off. Read it yourself, and tell me it isn't someone purposely opposing AJ to set fans such as myself off. Is this supposed to be honest journalism? I'm convinced there is an alterior motive behind it. Look at the group of people siding with Barrett: Corey McPheron, Gennie Zelasco, Kevin Kennedy, Cub fans, Bruce Levine, Jay Mariotti. You know you're on the wrong side of the issue when those names are in the same corner. What's typical of Mariotti's girly mood swings is yesterday he was complimenting the White Sox for exceeding the Cubs in every division of the game! Just read theses quote, and tell me it's not someone grasping for critcism: What the f*** was he supposed to do there? Join in the fight and risk suspension? You'd think backing off from the punch would be something warranting praise. To everyone besides Mariotti it was. He's actually criticizing Pierzynski for truthfully describing what happened on the field. Something which camera's clearly corroborate. AJ says nothing about Barrett he looks bad. AJ says the truth and STILL looks bad. I guess from now on it's open season on AJ in the mind of idiots such as Mariotti. Apparently, because of his past, he'll always be to blame. If this is his goal, to get people talking about him in hopes of increasing circulation and websites hits he can consider it a success. However, it's moments such as these he loses a little bit more of credibility in the minds of half-way intelligent baseball fans. Go ahead and rip players endlessly when it's warranted. But God Damn, for not doing anything besides a clean baseball play and slapping the plate, AJ sure is catching a lot of flack for this incident.

Quality Pitching Prospects>>>>Sleepy's Birthday>>>>World Championships

Thornton is consistently hitting 97-98mph on the speedgun these last few outings. Appears healthy to me. The slider Thornton threw to Jacque Jones today is EXACTLY the type of pitch he needs to harness. There was no radar gun available on FOX, but I'm guessing it had to be around 85-89 mph. Jones just froze at the plate. You have a effortless 97 mph fastball coupled with a high 80's breaking ball--even if it isn't very sharp--and you'll prove to be a valuable pitcher for someones bullpen. Hopefully ours. As I've always said, you can teach someone a certain pitch; can't teach velocity.

QUOTE(MayIHelpYouMrLennon? @ May 21, 2006 -> 01:19 AM) Mackowiak will get the start because he's a Cub's Killer. But I dont see why you dont want Uribe in the game... his putrid offensive #'s are buried in the 9-hole where he's damage potential is limited. Were going to need his defense to keep guys like Ronny Cedeno and Pierre from just trying to put it on the ground and run it out. Uribe and maybe Crede are the only guys on this team that have the arm strength to put those two away. I'd rather the Cedeno-Pierre combo just swing wildly at crap, but theyre going to try and bunt and leg thier way onto base. I dont want Pierre at 1st distracting Contreras, if he even starts to lose focus... well you know whatll happen. Relying on my memory of Uribe these last few seasons, I recall his feeble swings against Zambrano's breaking pitches. He never appeared comfortable. However, I probably should have browsed career numbers (albeit limited) of both Uribe an Cintron against Carlos. Neither have had much success. I was willing to include Cintron solely because of the difficulty Zambrano has had with left-handers this season. But since we're debating between two hitters whom have an equal amount of difficulty battling Zambrano, it makes sense to go with the player possessing good defense. I'll agree with you there. With Podsednik, AJ, Thome, Mackowiak in the lineup we're alright concerning left-handed presence.
-
I'm more worried about Zambrano dominating our lineup than him potential retaliating for yesterday's brawl. Remember, last season at Wrigley--before Patterson's goof in the OF--Zambrano embarrassed our hitters with one sweeping breaking ball after another. Uribe and Anderson should be nowhere near tomorrow's lineup. Hopefully, Contreras avoids lasts years first-inning bed wetting against the Cubs where he surrendered a GS to Ramirez. If Count is his usual self tomorrow afternoon, and our lineup is patient with Zambrano, we could possibly scratch 3-4 runs and pray the bullpen holds a lead. It may be tough, but if there's one person you'd expect to implode tomorrow it's 'Big Z."

QUOTE(SnB @ May 20, 2006 -> 05:05 PM) you can see AJ try and go around him. I really think barrett thought AJ was coming after him for whatever reason, and that's how he responded. It happened too quickly to analyze it in the stands, but after watching the video afterwards, it's obviously not AJ's fault. Watching Sportscenter right now, Jeff Brantley concluded Barrett was completely at fault. If this moron can admit the truth, it should be obvious to everyone not baseball-retarded.
-
Why is it during that video Jennie (or whomever is narrating) accuses AJ of chirping with Barrett? It's almost as if the punch is justified in her mind. I also don't understand listening to callers who say AJ purposely bumped Barrett. Are these people watching the same video I am? He may have GRAZED Barrett. There's no in between in this issue. If someone were to poll the nation to see who's at fault, it'd probably be 70/30 in favor of Barrett. The areas opposing him coming from Los Angeles, Minnesota, and the Northside of Chicago.
-
Just returned home from perhaps the most enjoyable game I've witnessed all year. Anyone notice Derrek Lee running out of the dugout, too? It was hilarious. If he ever had to land a punch someone would have been in the hospital. Everyone with an observant eye should fault Barrett for overreacting. When you take into account his history with chirping at the plate and aggitating the opposition this should come as no surprise. He claims Pierzynski nudged him--which he did, slightly--but that was an unintentional act to retrieve a batting helmet. Hope a suspension is worth it.

Eh, I wouldn't call her attractive. I'd atleast need a full body photo before changing my mind.

QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ May 19, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/new...t=.jsp&c_id=chc Heh. That last sentence sounds like something your average Cubs fan would say. If an attendance championship is all they ave over us, than they can celebrate that freely. I don't blame our ballclub for laughing at the Cubs, either. They've been playing horribly and deserve to be made fun of.

I can admit in previous years I've usually been apprehensive/nervous when these series role around. Typically, they mean nothing in the standings; but regardless, it's an emotional weekend. This year's a bit different. For obvious reasons. Still, even with our World Series Championship in the rearview, I don't want to lose to the Cubs. Especially Zambrano on Sunday. Far as this afternoon, I don't care how Maddux has fared thus far-- I expect atleast 3 runs. I couldn't possibly bare 5+ innings of Hawk complimenting Maddux's control of a 85 mph fastball and exploiting an extra three inches on both sides of the plate. -
YouTube has both videos in question posted. In one frame you can slightly observe the edge (what I assume) of a Flight 77's wing. Eye witness accounts suggest the plane inverted before crashing into the Pentagon, so it's quite possible the image is exactly that. If you were of the impression an aircraft never struck the Pentagon, these videos certaintly wouldn't sway your opinion. Failing to provide real-time footage of the impact will likely allow conspiracy theories to persist. Even undeniable proof of an aircraft striking the Pentagon would have been considered enhanced by computer graphics. Problem with this paritcular security system collecting still photographs once every second is it missed an aircraft descending well over 200mph. Can't blame anyone for lacking the forsight to position a camera in a good location to catch the incident.

QUOTE(Dam8610 @ May 13, 2006 -> 07:06 PM) As has been said many times before, ERA for releivers can be deceiving. Yeah, if you're exclusively reading a boxscore. Liriano may have appeared a scrub to some prior this evening. Anyone watching the game knows our bullpen numbers are fairly accurate. No big innings to inflate numbers. Everyone aside from Cotts (and more recently Politte) have had trouble pitching well on consecutive appearances.

QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ May 13, 2006 -> 07:03 PM) great minor league arms > World Championship I love it when you criticize.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ May 13, 2006 -> 06:47 PM) It's like you think these players grow on trees or something. It's worth noting that Minnesota didn't sign either Liriano or Santana. They stole them both. Yet you keep complaining. Oh, I will. When we're witnessing our crown jewel Lance Broadway battling Liriano, perhpas others will begin to realize how far off we are from producing a quality system. Sure, we have McCarthy; but Minnesota has their equivalent in Baker. Need to do more then one contributing player once every 4 years. Am I to believe Minnesota, of ALL the teams in the majors, lucked into Santana and perhaps the one pitcher who can duplicate his numbers? If Williams is intent on mimicking the Twins organization, why not mimick their scouting and minor league development? I've said before in other threads, you can't find your Lirianos or Santanas refusing to scout players from Central American countries. Perhapas the Twins don't have CA scouts either, but they sure have people who can recognize talent. We're battling them on the field--why not battle them in the minors as well? I'm tired of watching arm after arm fail upon promotion on the big league club. If you don't hold standards--even those which may appear unreasonable, why do anything? Let's keep drafting people and hoping they'll be good bargain chips for a team when midseason approaches. Worked one year, why not again--right?
-
I'll say this right now.... Twins make it to the playoffs within the immediate future--with a healthy Santana and Liriano in the rotation--they're winning a World Series. Those two possibly pitching three times between them in a 7 game series will be tough to overcome. Not to mention the other coming out of the bullpen in a pivotal game 7, ala Randy Johnson.
-
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm looking forward to the battles Francisco Liriano and Lance Broadway will be having for many years.
-
QUOTE(WHarris1 @ May 13, 2006 -> 06:32 PM) Or you could stop right now, I would not mind that. Contrary to what you may believe, I rarely discuss Liriano. Same with our minors. Perhaps a month ago was the last time I mentioned him by name. It just seems more frequent to you.
-
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 13, 2006 -> 06:26 PM) I don't even love Liriano like Flash. I hate him because he's on a rival team. I hate watching Liriano when he's mowing down our hitters. Aside from that, I enjoy watching talented pitchers pitch. I'll stop complaining when our organization producers or trades for a pitcher comparable to Liriano. It's that simple.
-
Don't worry. Liriano has a high WHIP.......... Well, just be glad we're ignoring the Dominican Republic for talent such as Liriano. I'm sure it's going to be fun facing him for years.
-
QUOTE(jphat007 @ May 13, 2006 -> 06:11 PM) Since when is Liriano the best? Rincon and Nathan are two of the best, but you can't throw Liariano in their now. I don't care what the numbers say concerning Liriano. He has amazing stuff and would be tough nevertheless. As of now, scoring 4 runs against the three pitchers is unlikely. It really upsets me when our pitchers are getting shelled against Minnesota. Garland I can understand; he'll give you these outtings. But Vasquez? That's unbelievable.
-
If we're scoring two runs the remainder of this game, we're going to have to put it up against some of the best. Liriano will probably go another inning. Then Rincon and Nathan. I can't f***ing believe I turn my TV off to notice it's 4-0, then turn it back on for this.
