27 years old. Finally has earned his way up to the show. Good for him. He was the only one in the Charlotte bullpen having a decent year. 2.81 era on the season with 53 Ks in 48 innings.

7-19 game thread Sox vs Astros 6:10pm

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 09:57 PM) Rienzo went 5 shutout tonight, so he's not available for a few days. They would need to clear a spot on the 40-man to add Taylor Thompson. Veal struck out the side tonight too--and he's a lefty. But also not on the 40-man. Just looked--Veal has been terrible besides tonight. I'd bet Rienzo is coming back, and they just want to get Sanchez back there playing. Rienzo cannot be called back up yet, he has to wait 10 days to be called back up unless there is an injury. So it is unlikely Rienzo. -

QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Jul 19, 2014 -> 04:32 PM) I was half joking (or half serious), but I could actually see them trading Cargo. He's coming up on 30, is steeply overpaid, and can't stay healthy. I'm too lazy to look up the stats, but his hitting record away from Coors isn't fantastic. Then again, they might keep all three (Blackmon, Cargo, Dickerson); can't imagine they'd resign Cuddyer. They could definitely trade CarGo I believe. And I forgot who said it, but the team i guess did come out and say they do want to resign Cuddyer.

I'd take him. Could never have enough speed on the team with line drive power. Is he better than Viciedo in the OF so we can move Viciedo to DH?

QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) Lineups https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/490210707582242817 Kinda surprised Sanchez is still around. *crosses fingers* Hopefully Beckham will be traded soon. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 04:20 PM) He hasn't thrown a pitch yet, and I'm so glad the Sox got Rodon. Same, the guy I wanted all along.

The Astros screwed up on so many levels this draft.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 02:42 PM) FutureSox.com @FutureSox 40m Courtney Hawkins & Jason Coats of @WSDashBaseball both in top 6 of Carolina League in SLG, OPS, HR and RBI. It'll be fun to see both in AA next year along with May.

Official Recruiting Thread II

Bragg has already mentioned Illinois, Kansas, and Kentucky will be 3 of his 5 official visits. I think its really between these 3 as Ohio State has fallen back. But Kentucky has been hot on some others like Doral Moore. Evans and Thomas have said that Illinois will be getting official visits as well. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Basketball is a sport that depends far more upon athleticism. Football is similar for the "skill" positions, but there is more technique involved in those to some extent. Baseball, on the other hand, involves less athleticism and much more mechanics and hand eye coordination and practice. Those great athletes with well-refined skills will still be the best players, but I can't name you another sport in which Billy Butler would be even remotely considered a good player. But you also put basketball players or football players in the batters box or in the infield, fielding a grounball, they would look incompetent.

Sox Place Three in Fangraphs' Top 50 Trade Rankings

Regarding starting pitchers contracts. Kershaw is set to make 215 million dollars. My starting 5 using Kershaw's 215 million 1. Chris Sale (32.5 million) 2. Adam Wainwright (97.5 million) 3. Yu Darvish (60 million) 4. Martin Perez (12.5 million 5. Matt Latos (11.5 million) That's insane. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 12:22 PM) Sounds like he might rise up to a McD's AA too. At all these events he's billed as the best PG there. I think he's the best chance. Clearly has a great relationship with Groce, they've been on him for a while, and there's no Kentucky or Kansas in the mix. He's buddies with Thomas, so maybe we get a package deal of sorts. Bragg I think is a pipe dream with the other schools involved, but who knows. Bragg has been real pro Illini as of late. And Thomas was showing some Illini love on Instagram the other day. Encouraging to see. -

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 12:04 PM) That'd be quite the class. It would. Aaron Jordan and DJ Williams are having really good summers also. I think Evans is key to the class, Illinois really needs a true PG. -
QUOTE (woods of ypres @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 12:00 PM) Wieters is a free agent after next season and will probably want a big payday. I know he's out for the year, but I wonder if we could get him via trade and try to extend him. I'd love to add Wieters. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 12:02 PM) Danks for Chance Sisco (minor league catcher) and another prospect or two. But I would love to build a deal around Sisco. I can see this. Get one or two pitchers. Tyler Wilson comes to mind. 24 and putting decent numbers up in AAA, could be close to the show.

I really think Illinois lands Jawan Evans, Elijah Thomas and Carlton Bragg -
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 11:18 AM) Sale for Machado & Bundy Not a chance.

QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 11:17 AM) Not really seeing a good match.....I think the Sox should/will be targeting near MLB ready prospects and the O's don't really have any of that. Yeah I agree. They are too top heavy with pitching with Gaussman, Bundy, and Harvey but after that its pretty bleu

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jul 18, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) Davidson 2013 AAA: 115 G, .280/.350/.481, 32 2B, 17 HR, 9.2 BB%, 26.8 K%, 117 wRC+ Davidson since Jun 1: 39 G, .250/.323/.534, 6 2B, 12 HR, 8.5 BB%, 24.2 K%, 133 wRC+ Safe to say the slow start was just a glitch in the Matrix. He honestly could be a right handed Adam Dunn in his prime. 240-260 hitter with 30-40 HR potential.
