  1. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 04:21 PM) I'm simply saying that yes he is talented and young but he is a luxury on this team, especially because he could go to a team looking to contend for a world series title and bring the sox back a nice haul similar to what Boston gave up in acquiring Bailey(Reddick) and Melancon(Lowrie). I see your point but my argument would be with the chance to compete next year. Why not keep our established closer, who is young, controllable for 3 more years after this and go from there. It all starts with pitching, if anyone is getting traded its Danks, Quintana or Santiago.
  2. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) I know I'm suppose to be rooting for the draft pick, but I kind of like seeing my team win. I love when the Sox still win. Shows improvement, confidence in the young guys, and hope for next year.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 04:10 PM) The Sox have a chance to compete next year, so they should get rid of their closer because only teams with a shot to compete need a closer? People wanting Reed out as closer just don't have a case. Jones is best for a set up role. And Webb needs to prove something in the show first before being named closer.
  4. QUOTE (beautox @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 04:07 PM) I don't think he sucks, I just think he isn't a valued asset on a "retooling" team and that his high leverage innings could be replaced by the likes of Jones or Webb. The sox have an outside chance to compete next year, its foolish to keep an above average "closer" on a team that isn't expected to contend. How not? He's 24 years old, has been the closer for 2 years and with good and bad teams. People that think he's not a good closer don't have a case of replacing him. He has now saved 31 of 36 games. And 2 of those blown saves the defense was to blame.
  5. Reed has a 3.36 era. His era would be in the high 1s if it weren't for the Mariners 5 run outing
  6. May with a 2 run triple in the top of the 9th
  7. Solid 2 innings of work from Lindstrom.
  8. Great inning by Lindstrom.
  9. Why is Petricka not in there? Ugh. Keppinger with an error.
  10. Another quality start from a Sox starting pitcher.
  11. Santiago pitches out of bases loaded jam. Kid has cahonas
  12. Another great at bat by Garcia.
  13. Braulio Ortiz struggling in High A so far this year. Micah Johnson is 0-3 and Hawkins is 0-2
  14. QUOTE (Andy the Clown @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Santiago for Morrison is fair. Johnson for Morrison is stupid. Completely disagree.
  15. Anybody else think that was an extremely lazy play by Willingham? I thought he could of held Phegley to a.single.
  16. Lol wow. That was an athletic play by Santiago. Good throw by Phegley.
  17. QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) All right handed...Throw in McCann and Dunn to split up the RHers...Jeebus. That would be scary with everything clicking.
  18. All I have to say is wow. If Tank figures it out next year. Him and Garcia might have the liveliest bats in the AL. The ball just flys off their bats. This is why I am excited for next year to go along with this pitching staff.
  19. In 11 games batting 3rd Alexei now has 10 RBIs
  20. Semein sac fly to tie game at 3
  21. Miguel Gonzalez with an RBI double cutting the lead to 3-2. What's the word with this kid? Only 23 years old and already in AAA. Is he much of a prospect?
  22. QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 01:19 PM) Joey DeMichele homered in his first AB. He's finally showing some life in August. I really hope he puts it together for next year. Loved when the Sox picked him.
  23. Santiago vs Deduno
  24. First off, I would not trade for Logan Morrison. This is what I would do if I were Hahn. Sign both Morales and McCann to 2-3 year deals. Next would be finding left handed relief help. JP Howell and Pedro Feliciano come to mind to try and help this bullpen. I would pick up Lindstrom's option to just to give a little depth to the bullpen. As far as the starting rotation goes, I think if Erik Johnson isn't ready, sign one of Josh Johnson, Edinson Volquez or Tim Lincecum. But if Johnson is then push Rienzo to the bullpen to take Axelrod's spot. As far as trades, this is how I would go at it. I could definitely see the Angels being interested in Santiago and/or Quintana. I would rather keep both but for the sake of making the team better, I would trade Santiago to the Angels for CJ Cron, Alex Yarbough and Mike Morin. I then would still try and trade Alexei so I would trade him to the Cardinals for Pete Kozma, Charlie Tilson, and Tim Cooney. Line up would be CF De Aza 2B Beckham C McCann DH Morales 1B Dunn RF Garcia LF Viciedo 3B Gillaspie SS Kozma Bench C Phegley UTIL Garcia OF Danks Free Agent Rotation Sale Quintana Danks Erik Johnson Josh Johnson/Edinson Volquez/Tim Lincecum Bullpen Rienzo Lindstrom Howell Veal Petricka Jones Reed Thoughts?
