QUOTE (scs787 @ Mar 10, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) According to the NFLPA, the Bears still have 31.4M in cap space......According to Over the Cap, the Bears rookie pool will cost 7.3M. So the Bears still have 24.1M in cap space to use on free agents. IMO, they absolutely need a starting safety and defensive lineman. A strong case could be made for another starting ILB, defensive lineman, and offensive lineman depending on how they view Timu, Ego, and Leno(an opposing argument could be made for those 3 IMO, and yes I said Timu). I have my hopes that tight end doesn't come into the discussion. That's 5-6 potential starting needs. If they can come away with 2 more, preferably DL and Safety, I would be really happy going into the draft. Remember, you figure to factor in the expected releases of Bennett and Rolle, which would free up another 7 million in cap space. That would bring the total back up to 31 million counting the draft pool I expect the Bears to resign TE Miller (4-5 million per year) and DE Jenkins (2-3 million per year), which would bring the Bears back to 24 million in cap with the draft pool. Bears have been tied to CB Casey Heyward, CB Patrick Robinson, DE Akiem Hicks (visiting today), and S David Bruton.

The Bears have just over 31 million left in cap space after yesterday's deals.

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/chicago-bears/cap/ With the top 51 contracts, it looks like the Bears still have around 40 million left in cap room. They don't have Massie on there, but I just added 6 million to the total. EDIT: I lied. They don't have the Porter, Becton, or Rodgers resigning. So probably around 33-34 million in cap. Still expect the release of Bennett and Rolle which would create another 7 million

QUOTE (scs787 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 09:44 PM) That deal is borderline criminal in today's day and age of overpaying free agents. Given that info, anyone know what his cap hit would be this year? 6.35 I believe.

Trevathan's deal is the best one in free agency so far. That's a steal.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 04:38 PM) I know Hayward was great a few years back, is he still good? Yes. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 04:39 PM) 3 years/16.5m for porter. Wonder how much in guaranteed money. Good to have him back, but still think they get another one or draft one.

QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 12:58 PM) I don't see why the offense can't be good next year. IF Lunt improves and Dudek is back healthy, I don't see why the offense can't score points right away. There are still some decent pieces on the defense. Depth isn't there, but if they are healthy I don't see why they can't at least be decent next year... Justin Hardee coming back too. Malik Turner made some strides too.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 12:04 PM) Right way to hire. Recruiting is done by the assistants primarily so they each need to want to do it and also own a geographical area. One of the major weaknesses was the actual idenfication of recruits so the recruiting coordinator will be a big hire. Tim Spencer is the RB coach. Former Ohio State assistant. Coaching Eddie George from 1994-2003. Any info on Spencer, Rock?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 11:32 AM) Sounds like Nickerson is in. How about that...Lovie is the first AA at Illinois and Illinois will now be the only school in the country with AA's at HC, OC and DC. Lovie bringing in a damn good staff. Hopefully we can get that key recruiting coordinator.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Mar 9, 2016 -> 11:07 AM) lol Hicks' Wikipedia page has him as a Bear. We still need maybe one more ILB and a safety (Gipson?). If we get Trevathan, I'd expect the other ILB to be either McClellin or someone that is drafted. As far as safety, we've heard Gipson, McLeod, and Bruton.
