  1. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Apr 14, 2013 -> 10:00 PM) Former first-round pick of the Braves out of Georgia Tech. Can't hit a lick -- .292 OBP in nearly 700 career big-league plate appearances. but I'm betting that at some point Baseball America rated him one of the Braves' top prospects. he's rule 5 we can give him back but he can field . If you're good at fielding how is that going to help. I've sat for a long time once or twice and my lower back hurts sometimes too.
  2. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 7, 2013 -> 10:29 PM) I went to the game on Saturday, but I generally refuse to go to games in April unless asked. You couldn't have paid me to go to Friday night's extra innings game in rainy 30 degree weather. When it is June and it's like this, then you can complain. But April baseball is horrible, I don't care how hardcore you are as a fan. I went on wednesday I sat in the handicap seats, 58.oo per seat that is not cheap. There is a lot to do at the park but when it is cold fans need an incentive to come. You can get a t shirt if you are in the lower six rows. how about prizes, jerseys whatever besides the split the pot which wil only be one by one person. On wednesday there was only 50 people that weren't in the lower deck. sox won with big power outage. We are not lucky enough to just have fans come for the team we have a fan incentive to fill the stands. bill Veek would have known what to do. i had to drive 2 hours to the game the brat and the game was well worth the money.
  3. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 11, 2013 -> 10:52 AM) I would not skip starters, especially in April. Let everybody get extra rest and keep them fresher for September. WHy be afraid of Quintana? Last year he pitched well in april and this spring he has had less problems than any of the rest of the starters.

  5. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Mar 9, 2013 -> 01:20 PM) I'm not saying he shouldn't have done the deal. I'm saying he probably have gotten more if pushed harder. Based on his comments, I don't think he was looking to milk every dollar out of us. Sounds like he just wanted to get a deal done quickly. I think Hahn would have been willing to go higher, especially with those option years. if i wAs a pitcher with his form in the majors i think Sale made a great contract. Sale can go the next six years almost worry free. If he makes it through the contract years without injury pitching like he did the last two years he could be very well paid in his 7th year when he is in free agency but he also has a guarantee if anything happens with his arm he has a great insurance policy.
  6. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 6, 2013 -> 08:20 AM) If you are holding out for a decent prospect in return for Wise, then you have to know he is going nowhere. He is a serviceable 4th OF, he isnt a hot commodity, he can be replaced without making a trade like that. The yanks need a first baseman Texeira, how about konerko what would he bring in terms of prospects. Loman or possibly Viciedo could play first or even Dunn could play first or we could get a prospect from the yankees that could add to our future. of course would they if the sox feel they can compete this year or if they don't believe they can and paul agrees on waiving his no trade clause to go to New york.
  7. QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Feb 26, 2013 -> 08:32 PM) It doesn't help the Sox much that most of the local media act as a de-facto marketing department for the Cubs. I still hear/read things that refer to the location of the Cell as dangerous. I always park west of the park and walk through the neighborhood and never had a problem, nor have I seen anyone else being hassled in any way. Also, there's a huge police presence around the park before and after games. I still hear/read about how bad the upper deck is at the Cell. It's rarely mentioned that a good number of seats at Wrigley are useless because of pillar locations, etc. I still hear/read about how Cubs fans have always been more loyal to their team. I'm old enough (40) to remember all of the games early in the season and late in the season having the upper deck closed because nobody was at the games. Heck, Lee Elia's rant took place in 1983. The crux of it was that there were a handful of fans who showed up, and they were bad fans. That said, I'm tired of the excuses about Sox attendance. Attendance is becoming a problem throughout sports as prices increase and the comfort of home viewing is weighed versus the cost. Unfortunately, the Sox are accross town from one of the very few sports franchises that seems to be somewhat immune. However, like SS2K, I think their fans are finally demanding some results before they go out to the park. in the early 90s the sox and cubs were each drawing 3500 a game.
