Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?
sammy esposito replied to ron883's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 10:33 AM) The above covers most of it for me. Myers is a different level, not comparable. Q and Flowers screwed up many years ago as minor leaguers, and I have no problem with them continuing to get a chance after they paid an appropriate price (which they did). I would have preferred someone not Melky if a similar player was available, but as one wasn't, I am willing to give him that same chance after he paid a price. And as fathom notes, the way testing is now, I think it is a lot harder to get away with it, and a lot fewer guys are doing it (though it is not none of course). I won't be buying any Melky shirseys, and I won't be a big fan. But none of this is going to stop me from rooting for the Sox. Past is past. He's taken his punishment. I think Melky and the 2015 White Sox need our total support. I believe the sox have the tools. -
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) Jones will be a while. Another reliever, and work on the bench. Who knows, maybe Hahn will get Castro to catch. BTW, Leuri is hitting .338 in the Dominican League. for the e Sorry I just read that his back is ok but he blew out his elbow and may not be ready until June. Thanks for the correction.

QUOTE (bear_brian @ Dec 14, 2014 -> 08:36 AM) What an offseason - here is a recap of improvements; LaRoche instead of Dunn Melky Cabrera instead of Viciedo Avi Garcia instead of De Aza or Moises Sierra Samardzija instead of Scott Carroll David Robertson instead of Belisario Zach Duke instead of Scott Downs Carlos Sanchez instead of Gordon Beckham Hector Noesi instead of Eric Johnson Now, if there was a way to sign Bonifacio (who kills lefties) as well as trade for Daniel Nava from the Red Sox, we would be one of the favorites to win the American League (if we are not already!). Don't forget that we will have Jennings and hopefully a fully healed Nate Jones who was gone most of last year. Maybe we'll have even more action to come.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 6, 2014 -> 11:44 AM) Thanks for posting. I see the last few weeks serving as the Sox checking the market and doing a cost-benefit analysis of what they have and what they can get. I expect one "major" trade probably filling the OF need and maybe one smaller move like a relief pitcher. " one major trade" does that would mean that obtaining Melky from free agency is off on the table?

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Dec 4, 2014 -> 01:18 AM) Between FA and trades, there are better outfield options available so its probably going to be a bit before Viciedo will be traded. For some crazy reason I do think a team will offer the Sox something and the Sox take it. Just a guess. Viciedo might be more in a trade if he is signed for the year.

Snodgress and Carroll "not offered contracts"

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 06:31 PM) Medlen AND Beachy. Medlen recently turned 29 and Beachy 28. Sign either one of them though they may not be ready til May but still. Not one mention of Noesi and nate Jones. When Nate is on he's great. I hope his back issues are behind him. Noesi was satisfactory and hopefullyu turn a corner this year and do himself and the whitesox proud. -
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Dec 2, 2014 -> 06:17 PM) I hope he makes trades similar to the ones last year: well-thought out that fill a need and which doesn't hurt the farm. If indeed the farm is not to be damaged. it may be to our advantage not to pay in farm talent to get short term results.

QUOTE (StRoostifer @ Nov 26, 2014 -> 08:55 PM) This could be a possibility. Some sort of Danks for Victorino swap might just make some crazy sense. I still prefer the Sox looked for a better option in LF but if it meant trading Danks I would not complain. A move like that actually saves the Sox 1.5M that can be added to the roughly 20M they have left to spend and maybe sign a starter like Volquez and another reliever or two. I don't know how possible that scnerio is, just throwing it out there as an example. more will happen after dec 2. we/ll see what teams will offer contracts to players.

Sox will still be rebuilding in 2015 and probably won't sign the players they target. Why not sign Ichiro?

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 8, 2014 -> 11:18 PM) Why on Earth does this team need a rental? They aren't a playoff contender next season. Contenders trade for rentals, not rebuilding organizations. If a pitcher like Rodon needs another year to develop then a rental makes sense. -
White Sox claim Shuck, activate Nate Jones

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 3, 2014 -> 11:59 PM) Yeah, I don't think he kicked that guy at all. He was squirming over the wall and his cleat caught the guy's shirt, you can see him even look back to find out what he caught his foot on, and the fan didn't get mad like he had just been yelled at or kicked on purpose. I don't think there was anything wrong with what happened there at all. I liked Nate Jones I thought he showed some great promise and was a cinch to make our bullpen until his back injury. I hope he can regain his form. -
AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX WINNER!!! X2

QUOTE (hi8is @ Aug 26, 2014 -> 12:03 PM) Expectation is the mother of resentment - it's a cliche for a reason I watched him in his first spring training he was outstanding. I wonder how he slipped to expendable from the guaranteed starter.

Why the A's should trade for Adam Dunn

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) Who are we paying $18M? sorry we are only paying a pawltry 15 million for his stellar play in 2014 -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 21, 2014 -> 04:08 PM) "He is a good power hitter from the left side, he hits righties well, he hits a lot of home runs, he strikes out a lot, he walks a lot, he doesn't hit lefties very well, and he doesn't play very good defense." I just got off the phone with Billy Beane and he said that word for word. we pay 18 mil for a guy per year who is not worth anything to another team/ even for one months salary, sad. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 20, 2014 -> 10:57 PM) I fully expect the Sox to finish below Minnesota which means last place 2 years in a row. That is unacceptable. If the Sox finish last again next year, I'd clean house. No more Kenny. No more Hahn. And beg Jerry to sell. You can't tell me the Sox should be finishing fricking last 3 straight years. And what's more, nobody is the front office is calling it a rebuild, right? They are denying we are rebuilding. Last place must be a thing of the past starting next year! If you sell off the expensive contracts then that is the time to sell the whole team and stadium

Is Ventura the worst manager in the history of MLB?

QUOTE (Vance Law @ Aug 11, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to dispute that this actually happened. You see, only our manager is THE WORST and nothing like that could happen to any other team. When our manager does something like that I carry it around in the pit of my stomach for days and go on angry online tirades about how I knew that would happen. If, and I'm saying IF that were to happen to another team like you describe here with Maddon, I would forget about it by the time I changed the channel and I would wish that the manager who did it was the manager of my team. I do all of this because I am smart at baseball. We can't get a high draft pick if we win. So keep it up Robin. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) Yeah, they're not going to be doing this before Konerko Month. Sorry. roster goes to 40 in September.

QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 8, 2014 -> 07:44 PM) In addition to the very impressive numbers that Wilkins is putting up, there is an intangible factor here. To not give him a chance, sends the wrong message to our Minor League players. He could justifiably ask; "What do I have to do to earn a shot?" After all, he's being blocked by Adam "freaking" Dunn. Paulie could come up with some mysterious injury to allow Wilkins a spot on the big team. 15 day dl and Paulie could be back in September. Meanwhile Wilkins could get his shot.

QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 5, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Glasses still offer better vision correction, especially when it comes to people with vision problems like astigmatism. If he had allergies (I've been there), contacts can become unwearable as well. You'll have them coming out of place and getting literally covered with the gunk your eyes are producing I can't do it but I think Tyler is wearing Dick Allen glasses. http://ts1.mm.bing.net/th?&id=HN.60801...mp;rs=0&p=0

QUOTE (scs787 @ Aug 4, 2014 -> 11:03 PM) Nooooooo!!!! Tyler was gonna hit for the cycle!!! Noesi with the win. I think he may have been one of Hahn's better deals.

QUOTE (Real @ Jul 29, 2014 -> 12:47 PM) Who remembers the Jeter comparisons when Beckham was first called up, and let's not forget the rumors about SD dealing Agon for Beckham Lmao Another failed first round position player I went to Beckhams spring training debut. I was impressed with his fielding and hitting prowess. My son asked Ozzie if he would start with sox. He said no he was going to start in double A. I thought he was ready. I am so surprised that his stellar light has dimmed to this point

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 11:18 PM) So Sanchez will only be up for one game? My guess is there is something else going on.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jul 12, 2014 -> 05:06 PM) you mean there WASNT a bench clearing brawl? lol I think we should pick up aj ,dfa Tyler . Tyler may be able to latch on to some slow pitch softball team whose season isn't over.
