QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2013 -> 06:32 PM) I'm wondering if they just don't want to make that change mid-season and might give it a shot in the spring we are only in contention for the rights to the the number one draft pick . We may as well explore as many players and their potential now.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 06:12 PM) Just to put that in perspective, that would be $25M more than the Sox have ever paid anyone. El Duque, Contreras, who we didn't draft, ramirez and Viciedo all played or played for the sox. Viciedo, is the Cuban Babe Rurh, that has yet translated into anything stellar. I think Hahn will be cautious with JR's money.

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 11:47 AM) Guys have good nights and bad nights. Also, this is not prime Jake Peavy.nce MY guess is that Peavey is not the same as the form that netted him the Cy Young but s since he has been with the sox I didn't see a prima donna he has had to overcome injuries that would stop many men to just be a little bit better than average. I think Jake has showed whether he has one or lost or went to the disable list. He has given everything he's got to be where he is today. He is a competitor he gives it his all. He pitches with guts and determination he doesn't like to be defeated. I wish him well .

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 03:55 PM) You might be surprised to find out that his Z-Contact rate (contact rate on pitches in the strike zone) this year isn't far off from league average (82.5% vs. 87%), and that his Z-Swing (percentage of pitches he sees in the zone that he swings at) is almost exactly league average (65.1% vs. 65.4%). If Dunn keeps playing well through the end of the season; the sox and every other team can decide if they need him on their team. 20 million is a lot to gamble with.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 10:34 PM) Much better range and arm. Both are +. He ends his swing with his bat in one hand like Robin v. he is my new favorite SOX player." Sweet swinging Leury".

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 9, 2013 -> 04:19 PM) I think 2013 is worse considering we had expectations and the team played so differently than 2012. He is finally playing commensurate with his pay it is time to trade him.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Aug 5, 2013 -> 10:35 PM) Man.. you know the Sox have reached an all time low when fans consider their DH hitting a whopping .225 the best hitter in the lineup. I truly hope that we give Paulie a great send off when he retires. Then in time a statue will be erected in his honor. While Dunn is doing much better and if this was a month ago I would say Dunn might not deserve a statue but maybe a bust.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:44 PM) I know this, was just responding to his proposed line-up. When was the last time the White Sox signed to the top free agent? I believe when we signed Dunn. That has worked well for us hasn't it?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:29 PM) Better than Santiago did anyone expect different results?
-
QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 05:52 PM) So is that it? Any rumors about moving Rios post deadline? Waivers, that's how we obtained him initially.
-
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:39 AM) Also there's the chance of injury. Say Peavy gets pulled in the 4th for something as minor as a cramp. In that scenario Hahn just lost a whole lot of leverage. It's really the smart thing to do to not have him start if there's even a chance you might trade him. I believe the waiver wire might bring better results for the sox. We obtained Rios to block the tigers nut I don't think we have anything that other teams are valuing our players enough to make a deal happen .

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 12:14 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,6195604.story On Phegley's spleen removal surgery that turned both his baseball career and overall health around. I Knew it Phegley gets better after spleen removal. Dunn hits worse after appendix removal. Anyone see a pattern?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 06:31 PM) I wonder if anyone has ever gone 6-6 and 0-6 in same week? Anderson is;pitching a good sign we wil give another one away. -
You = Hahn. Do you heavily shop Reed, Yes or No?

QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Jun 24, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) Considering what he is getting paid and what he does he is living up to his value compared to the likes of Hamilton. This is not a salary dump type trade. he is giving it all this year might not be anything left for next year -

QUOTE (jthunder93 @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) 1) Erik Johnson - Throwing well for the AA Birmingham Barons 2) Tim Anderson 3) Courtney Hawkins - struggling in high-A ball 4) Carlos Sanchez - started the 2011 season in Bristol, and has worked his way up to AAA 5) Trayce Thompson - currently in AA Josh Phegley is a pleasant surprise. Doing well in AAA at 25 years old. How about Brent Tanner catcher bats left handed but hitting only .346

Game Thread: White Sox vs. those pesky Astros
sammy esposito replied to BigEdWalsh's topic in 2013 Season in Review
QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Jun 16, 2013 -> 04:39 PM) Well, yeah the 59 team is what everyone remembers but Minnie Minoso and Jungle Jim Rivera ushered in the Go-Go era way before that. Jungle Jim Rivera according to Elston made shoe string catches in the outfield. I still don't know what that meant but 5 years old in 53 and that was as exciting as it got for a 5 year old. (no tv) -
QUOTE (Jake @ Jun 7, 2013 -> 11:06 AM) Agree completely. Fairly large mental adjustments can be easy to implement while those minute changes in mechanics can be a big hindrance. Likewise, sometimes an approach change can unintentionally change mechanics for the better. What I saw was how fast he delivered a 93 mph fastball. this could prove usefull as a reliever as a deterrent for would be base stealers.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 02:02 PM) Nelson Cruz is on that list of players possibly being suspended in the Biogenesis investigation. This would make my trade suggestion even more viable except Peavy didn't cooperate by getting hurt. Since peavet went down and while the blue Jays are not having a grea season how about making some kind of a trade for Buehrle. He might not win us a bunch of games but will bring thre team together in the clubhouse. Ending his career with the sox

Peavy leaves early due to broken rib

QUOTE (bbilek1 @ Jun 5, 2013 -> 07:07 PM) Dan Hayes said on Twitter that it may have happened from a teammate cracking Jake's back... Is that a joke?? Who are we going to get to replace Peavey? We have to bring someone up. Is there anything left at Charlotte? -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jun 4, 2013 -> 06:27 PM) What double standard? All you do is b**** and moan about what the board wants. You act like there is a poll above this thread with 99 percent of the board voting they want him against your 1 percent. It was just someone saying that a power arm is available. You don't want him. Fine. Point made. Move on. It's called frustration "Do something even if it is wrong."

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ May 31, 2013 -> 12:12 PM) He didn't suggest that. He mentioned Eithier was available and wondered if the Dodgers would eat enough money to make the Sox consider picking him up, releasing Dunn and making Viciedo the DH. He also mentioned how paying Eithier through 2017 vs. paying Dunn through next year complicates it even more. 32 million or so we owe Adam no one will take his contract. It was a bad move on KW's part. His last year with washington his avg was .259 tht has translated to to .159 playing in the american league with the sox. Anybody can make a 57 million dollar mistake.Llighten up on the criticism of Adam and KW.

Brent Morel has hit .333 his last 10 games that I believe is the best we are going to get.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 15, 2013 -> 12:21 PM) Yeah, no one asked Dunn to stop hitting HR and walking while making more contact, but people regularly say they want more contact from him. Here's Ventura saying so: “You want him to be more aggressive. For a guy like him, there is something about hitting earlier in the count instead of taking pitches that are close or just off. We’re not talking about expanding the zone and swinging and missing, you’re talking about being a little more aggressive, going out of the zone and making contact.” Everyone seems to pretend that "Yeah, more contact from Dunn earlier in the count" would be great, when that's simply not what made him a tolerable player and a contributor to baseball teams. When people ask for more contact from Dunn, they have to live with the consequences, and that's less power and fewer walks. summation is we need a different #4 hitter because Dunn is a one dimensional hitter. He can but don't hit to other fields he still doesn't know how to pick his pitches. he just swings as hard as he can for the bleachers sometimes he hits them the rest of the time he strikes out or weekly to an infielder. I liked Thome so much better once in a while he would go the other way but this so sad. We don't have a good left hand hitter except the one leading off to put in the fourth spot. Gillaspy might not work there but I would say if you have Rios hitting before you and konerko hitting after you are as protected as a person could be. Dunn is better suited to riding the pine.
