Sox @ Tigers, 4/23, Rienzo vs. Smyly, 6:08 on CSN+
QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:36 PM) Nobody in baseball hits the ball weakly enough to have just 1 in every 6.5 balls put in play result in hits. Not to say he doesn't have some issues this year. He's walking a bit less, striking out a bit more (although you could put down a lot, if not all, of that to BS check swing calls), and looks anxious at the plate. But to say he's "worthless" is silly hyperbole. It may well be that he's less valuable than he has been, but that doesn't mean he won't still be valuable, or that you can even make a judgement after a little over 3 weeks. I guarantee you that if you took whomever is your favourite hitter on the team, I could find you a 3-week stretch where he hit about as badly*. *unless it's Jose Abreu. I understand every player usually goes through bad stretches and he won't hit this poorly all year but I don't get how you can say that based off that stat. I can say it because I have watched enough baseball in my life and have seen De Aza play enough to know he won't hit THIS poorly all year.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:33 PM) No pinch runner? I think our only healthy option is Nieto or Dunn if I am not mistaken

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:23 PM) It's pretty relevant when you have people freaking out about players in late April. A look at the box score for our game on this day of last season and we have players batting: .100 .125 .188 S*it happens in a small sample-size. If De Aza is still hitting like this in a month, come back to me. For now I'll go ahead and side with the much greater track record and the fact that balls just aren't falling for him. You can't tell me De Aza has been hitting the ball hard. He has had some s***ty check swing calls on him, I will give him that. But he hasn't been hitting the ball hard enough for me to say balls aren't falling for him

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 08:11 PM) De Aza is not worthless. He's been worth comfortably over 2 fWAR for 3 straight years. It's April 23rd, his BABIP is .156 and he's still not been worth negative fWAR because of his defence. Relax. There it is!! A game day thread is not complete until Feeky mentions that awful stat

Not sure why Rienzo is coming back out. He did a fine job in 6 innings as the 5th man..

Please, just one time Danks.. Don't swing at balls, wait for your pitch and at least knock in Paulie

Sox @ Tigers, 4/23, Rienzo vs. Smyly, 6:08 on CSN+
Please pinch run for Konerko now.. Well maybe we don't have anyone except Nieto. Damn it

I would love to see how many 1 pitch at bats Alexei has had and what his stats are in those at bats

Sox @ Tigers, 4/23, Rienzo vs. Smyly, 6:08 on CSN+
Good start for Rienzo IMO. Starters tend to have one bad inning a lot and Rienzo had one that happened to be more then 2 runs and our hitters haven't given a lot of support. Rienzo>Paulino

Good bounce back inning! Time for the offense to get some runs

QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) Oh, I must have mistaken the pitch speed for pitch count when I saw 87 up there. He has been good up until the 4th.. I am not going to judge his start based off of one inning. If he gives us 6 innings with 4 runs that is a big improvement over what Paulino was giving us

Sox @ Tigers, 4/23, Rienzo vs. Smyly, 6:08 on CSN+
QUOTE (Big Hurtin @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 07:29 PM) We'll be lucky if he goes five with the pitch count where it is. He has 69 pitches. If he doesn't have a bad inning he will easily go 6

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 23, 2014 -> 07:24 PM) 4 runs on 4 hits for Det .......ugh. He has had one bad inning. A lot of pitchers do that.. If he finishes and goes 6 innings letting up 4 runs I will be content with that

s***... he was doing well too

Damn it.. Limit the damage. 2 runs is still okay.
