  1. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 3, 2013 -> 12:55 AM) Economics. Teams need power. Power hitters who can play corner positions are more plentiful, thus they are cheaper to obtain. If you try to get your power from CF, C, SS and 2b, you have to pay more for it... it is scarce. Thus, it is a more efficient use of resources to take your power at the corners. That's also why it's worthwhile to give our new acquisition a fair look in CF. False. They don't need it. St. Louis is 27th in the league in home runs with 83 and have one of the best records in the league. If you can get enough hitters at the top of the line up that get on base (can be singles, walks, HBP, anything to get on) and have the middle of the order be able to get hits with those runners on base is all you need. There always has been the stigma that corner infield and outfield players need to put up good power numbers. That isn't the case. Teams can win without hitting home runs all the time. And you don't have to have tons of power in order to get doubles. Manny Machado- 9 home runs, but 39 doubles and he plays 3B. James Loney- 10 HR but is batting .313 Playing 1B for Tampa Bay who has the 2nd best record in the AL. We don't NEED hitters at 1st or 3rd or LF or RF that are going to all hit at least 20 home runs. I just don't understand why everyone thinks that a certain player can't play a position because he doesn't have enough power. If the guy can play good defense and gets on base he can play wherever the hell he wants
  2. How has Carlos Sanchez looked in his AB's
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 07:28 PM) Sale, a couple of number two starters and a couple of number three starters would be pretty solid. Yep, we really don't need another "#1" because we already have one. so if he can be a 3 or 4 guy it would be perfect
  4. QUOTE (Tannerfan @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 06:49 PM) I'm not sure he's a good enough offensive player to be a first baseman. I'm also not sure if he's a good enough offensive player to be a left fielder. I hate this. Sorry but I don't like the stigma that a corner outfielder or first baseman has to have a certain amount home runs or power. Viciedo has power. If he can hit the ball that is all that matters. Hitting with RISP is more important then how many home runs he will get. Viciedo will consistently put up at least 15 home runs in a full season, closer to 20 I think. If he can do that and hit better then .270 I would be fine with that. Why does a 3B, 1B, RF, and LF have to have a certain amount of power?? We need players who get on base and can knock people in who are on base. Look at the Cardinals. Allen Craig has 11 home runs this year, a lot of power? Nope, but he gets hits. That is all we need.
  5. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 2, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) So do you think that happened because of Trishelle and Sarah getting booted on a guys' week last week? That is exactly it. Didn't want uneven sides and also the show would of been shorter if they didn't take a week off
  6. I just did this trade: I get: Yu Darvish Hunter Pence Avisail Garcia He Got: Prince Fielder Bronso Arroyo Jordan Lyles Miguel Gonzalez Good trade or bad?
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 06:57 PM) Garcia is in. Semien, Garcia, and Morel due up next inning. Why did he not start?
  8. Semien starting. No Garcia though
  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) And Marcus Semien Knights line up is actually going to be interesting to watch now!!
  10. Good to see him being brought up. Hopefully he can keep playing at a high level. Did someone get released or sent to AA? Edit: Nevermind, Danks was brought up yesterday
  11. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 12:37 AM) I liked his presence on the mound. His curve reminded me of Jenks and Verlander. Handled a rough inning very well. I'm hoping we have something good . Very surprised with his curve. I thought everyone was talking about his cutter and I didn't really see that. Had some good location on his fastball a few times that I saw (didn't get to see his whole start).
  12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 1, 2013 -> 01:25 AM) Big Hurt, Axelrod better not be here. He really is not a big-league talent. Back to Indy League. He was a success story for a bit but my gosh, he can't cut it. His stuff is just no good IMO. Well he will be around somewhere if we REALLY need someone to pitch lol
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:15 PM) The White SOx havne't had this good of a position prospect in years (at least not when it comes to the "hit" tool and I for one am really excited to see Garcia with the Sox and for the first time in a long time, I expect this guy to make an all star game or two with the White Sox. Yes, I've dranken the Garcia cool aid. Of course, I'll temper that by saying the only other guy in the past 5-7 years with this type of hit tool in our organization was Beckham and well he's had his issues after that rookie year. He was such a good pure hitter that first year with us and I look at Garcia in a similar fashion. He can hit the ball to all fields and the power will come. He does have some areas to improve related to his overall patience and approach but I think that will improve with time. This is a really talented kid and in my opinion I'd take him over pretty much any of the other top prospect names we heard the past couple days (I say pretty much...not necessarily all). Kool-aid
  14. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) If you expect to win with three rookies in the top 6 starters, it won't happen. If you are throwing away next year, let 'er rip. Do you think we can win next year?? lol Hitting is what needs to change big time. Pitching is alright but I would give up Danks contract in order to get better hitters
  15. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 10:06 PM) Even if all of those work out you still need 6-7 starters for a good season. Without Danks the Sox do not have that depth next year or probably the year after. Im sure Axelrod will still be here and what about Snodgress? Or we can just sign a long reliever that can fill in
  16. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:53 PM) Prospect fever . You're lucky if one becomes good in his rookie year next year. Actually thinking they both becone quality starters is a dubious prospositon. I think at least one of them will be good and the other will be good enough for the 5th spot in a rotation. Hell Dylan Axelrod was our 5th starter for a long time this year.
  17. Wise and Tekkote just need to leave. Get Garcia and Jacobs up there and hit. or Thompson.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:40 PM) Not a chance in the world that the Sox would sign Cano. I know this, was just responding to his proposed line-up. When was the last time the White Sox signed to the top free agent?
  19. One of Rienzo or Johnson will get the chance with Peavy gone. But I would like the other to get a shot too. Think they could be better then Danks but if they don't get that chance we will never know. Sale Quintana Santiago Rienzo Johnson Could be a really young good starting staff for years
  20. QUOTE (JoshPR @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:36 PM) BECKHAM IS NOT A REGULAR ML SS. And no that is horrible, all or nothing hitters that have doomed us all along How can anybody be so sure about that when he hasn't even gotten the chance to be??
  21. QUOTE (scs787 @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 09:32 PM) Its too bad Tank didn't turn into that 30 HR guy Harold Reynolds and some here thought he's be. How sexy would a De Aza CF- L Beckham SS- R Cano 2B-L Rios RF-R Dunn DH-L Tank 1B-R Gilaspie 3B-L Garcia LF- R Phegley C- R That's a hella balanced lineup, and if Tank gets his power stroke back you can switch him and Rios. Just because we get Cano doesn't mean everyone else is going to magically start hitting. Cano is the only sure thing in that line-up and everyone else is a big huge if.
  22. QUOTE (sammy esposito @ Jul 31, 2013 -> 08:20 PM) Waivers, that's how we obtained him initially. Yes, I know how that works. I was wondering if there were any rumors about him being moved after today
  23. So is that it? Any rumors about moving Rios post deadline?
  24. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 10:49 PM) Between Sanchez, Simien, Johnson, Rondon, Beckham and Anderson we should be good in the middle IF and UT in a few years. Between Garcia, Thompson, Viciedo, Hawkins and Walker, we should have a decent OF and 4th OF. We have pitching. Now fill the holes with all the money we have. At least it's a plan. Don't forget about Brandon Jacobs
