  1. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 11, 2015 -> 10:05 AM) Yes, but July 2nd guys are a crapshoot. Many of the guys that will get the largest bonuses will never advance beyond AA and an equal share of guys that sign for less than $250K will make the majors, there is just way to many variables in signing 15 and 16 year olds. Whereas the Cuban guys have quite a bit less volatility as they have performed for another 3-5 more seasons. They are the equivalent of the talent that is available in the draft, and while there is still a bust rate it is less so than that in the July 2 market. I would sacrifice signing some of those top guys in 2016 and 2017 if we can get the equivalent of 3 additional first round draft picks from Cuba in this class. While that's a sound philosophy, lets agree to disagree

    The Wire

I re-watching The Wire and wanted to see if there are any other people on here who are familar with the show. In my opinion is one of the greatest television shows off all time, in every aspect from the performances to the cinematography and especially the writing, (Showrunner David Simon wrote every epsiode). I love how each season dives into a different aspect of the 21st century American city (especially the inner cities) whether it's the war on drugs in post 9/11 America, the school system, the political machine or the media. I'm about to finish up season 1 today, and its even better on subsequent viewings. If you’re unfamiliar with The Wire, you need to check it out. "The King Stay The King."
  3. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 11:13 PM) FWIW, over the past 2 seasons, his partial one last year and now this one, Avi's isoD is like .60 That's pretty good. He gets hit quite a bit and he takes just enough walks that combined with his high average (I think he'll always hit at least around 280, with some seasons up around 310) that's going to result in a OBP of around 350-380. Not bad. What about his TWTW
  4. Its only 10 games gice or take but Ricky Mota is having a solid start in the DSL. I think Alfaro and Nunez will be up with the AZL team to start their careers
  5. Not bothered by it, family always comes first.
  6. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 10, 2015 -> 02:20 PM) If you get Martinez, you really need to sign 3 or four of the guys to make it worth while. Add a guy like Randy Arozarena who BA says has a similar profile to Ian Happ. Add in a guy like Andy Ibanez and another SP like Vladimir Gutierrez and it is basically like adding four first round draft picks to the class. It will cost some of the higher end 16 years olds the next couple seasons, but you still get your entire pool to use, you just have to break it down into smaller chunks. They are attached to four of the top 30 July 2nd prospects, they're all 15/16. Usually a team signs like 7 players, at least a cycle
  7. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 9, 2015 -> 12:10 AM) The FA hitters are expensive and the bust rate is high. Chu and Ellsbury got outrageous contracts. Who's the big dog this year? Heyward (not a particularly good hitter) and Upton (a very good hitter) Both will have crazy prices. Heyward is still a very good player, the best defensive OF in the game.
  8. My pacemaker shut down last night due to draft fever. Watching the draft now #NoSpoilersPlease Edit: Great pick by the Sox, a high end righty now enters the system. I think that he can make it add a starter, this is a Sox pick to the fullest.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 09:20 AM) And Stephenson is exactly the type of hitter that the White Sox never develop. Big power with a lot of swing and miss potential in his game. Just you havent had succes with a player like that doesn't mean you stop trying. Should the team avoid Lefty Power Bats because Adam Dunn was a failure? Etc
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 04:46 AM) Sounds like Tyler Kolek when you hear his physical description. Risky. Jonathan Gray hasn't exactly torn up the minor leagues...he was also from OU, if I remember correctly. That's correct. And I am pretty high on Kolek, he could be a stud but for him is all about developing secondary stuff.
  11. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 03:03 AM) One more 2016 draft update: I'm told Oklahoma RHP Alec Hansen was up to 99 mph today. He's 6'7 or 6'8 with knockout stuff, 1-1 candidate. Seems that name came out of nowhere almost.... People say he's Dillon Tate to the extreme
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 8, 2015 -> 01:23 AM) And there are infinite nickname possibilities... Head, Cabbage Patch, Cabbage Patch Kid, Vegetable, am I missing some?
  13. I hope the Sox draft Trey Cabbage, he's 6'4 180 and he has a nice left swing and strong arm. Plus hit tool. He pplays short but his future is at third: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/18765768/v130...s-third-baseman
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 09:56 PM) Benintendi's numbers are just incredible coming out of that conference. I love his swing.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Give me Dillon Tate. I like Tate too, and Beneintendi***
  16. QUOTE (Mike F. @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 07:29 PM) In a perfect world, who would you want the Sox to get in the draft at #8? For me, it's Tyler Jay easily. I'd be happy with Jay, Tucker, Stephenson, and Harris.
  17. Bickford tested positive for Marijuana
  18. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 06:26 PM) Not to mention the Angels and Yankees are in desperate need for young blood offensively...and the Yankees also lost out in the Moncada sweepstakes, that didn't sit well with many. I think that he signs after July 2nd, that would leave out the Yankees and Angels.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Jun 7, 2015 -> 09:14 AM) Unfortunately, Cubs are favorites to land him I'd take that with a grain of salt. If I were you, 17 teams are in the mix and that includes the Angels and Yankees who can't sign anyone over 300K. So let's just keep your fingers crossed.
  20. Martinez has begun fielding offers from teams.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2015 -> 09:34 PM) They'd have to play exceptional baseball to make the playoffs. I'm just hoping Hahn realizes that despite having Sale, Shark, Q and Rodon this team blows and adjusts accordingly. ... Maybe behind the scenes he should interview some managerial candidates and see if they think they can win NOW with our rotation. Thats not the Sox MO, interviewing potential managerial candidates behind Robin's back would make the Sox look really really really really really bad to a lot of people.
