  1. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 12, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) BPA is not a myth. BPA does not equal consensus number 1's Harper/Strasburg. Kyle Schwarber was not the top guy on the board by most all accounts last year when the Cubs took him, but he was the best mix of all factors. That doesn't mean he was the consensus BPA, he was their BPA through a mix of the factors you listed and more. Talent, polish, signability, risk as a player, risk in injury, floor, ceiling, tools, etc. are all evaluated to make a BPA. It all depends how each organization values each of the things above. The BPA argument is rooted from the idea that you don't take a specific position because it is an organizational weakness but instead, take the player that provides the most value at that time regardless of position or need. One of the best post that I have ever read on this site.
  2. A guy who I liked for a long time is Ryan Mountcastle, he is a SS out of Florida. He is 6'4 190lbs and will either end up at 3B or in the corner outfield as a professional. He has very good bat speed and has a really nice swing from the right side. I hope that the Sox pick him up in the fourth round.
  3. Shark has been very inconsistent this year, easily my biggest disappointment SO FAR.
  4. QUOTE (LDF @ May 8, 2015 -> 05:57 PM) nice, a really nice write up. i can see him, and if he can fix his command and control issue a solid #3. however that is what dropped him. the pro's had high hopes for him, esp coming into this season. i believe there was talk that him and several other pitchers would take that step up. instead, with his command / control not being up to snuff, he kinda stagnated, to put is nicely. Thanks John Manuel thinks his command has imoroved. And still has him as a top 10 pick.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ May 8, 2015 -> 10:51 AM) BA has Sox taking the other Illinois native http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mlb-m...15-version-1-0/ Here's my scouting report on Kyle Funkhouser: http://www.reddit.com/r/MLBDraft/comments/...yle_funkhouser/
  6. Mock Draft #1 from Baseball America: http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mlb-m...15-version-1-0/ Have the Sox taking Funkhouser at 8
  7. Dave Cameron said in his chat that the Astros have an interest in Shark. I think unless the Sox are getting Correa, which is never going to happen, I think that Houston is a bad trade partner for the Sox.
  8. I can't stop watching the video for Yonathan Sierra Estiwal. He's 6'3 205lbs, he's 16 so he's probably not done growing, if he grew another two inches I wouldn't be surprised. Plus his swing is fantastic. My favorite phases in the scouting report by MLB were... 'improving hit tool', 'ability to drive the ball to the opposite field'. I'm jealous that the Cubs are attached to him. He should be good.
  9. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 5, 2015 -> 06:06 PM) I like the taller, sweet swinging leftY, as long as they're certain that his frame projects to way more size and strength than a Ryan Sweeney.Look at his dad, uncles etc., lol.Honestly don't know a lot about either but loved the Tucker swing vids. Also, and I don't enjoy giving the Cubs props, but if their interest in Tucker is real, our guys should take a longer look. Lord Theo , if nothing else, is able to hire the best draft and development guys out there. RH should pilfer a few. The Cubs, Rangers, Dodgers, Padres, Nationals come to mind.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 5, 2015 -> 08:34 PM) Obviously I am not insinuating that Whitely is going to be the best player in the game, but he has some Mike Trout to him. Overlooked playing in the Northeast, thick athletic body, power-speed combo, good makeup, etc. Could be a diamond in the rough for someone not picking 8th That is a really good comp.
  11. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 5, 2015 -> 04:25 PM) In conjunction with this, I want to see Buddy B promoted to a currently nonexistent position, while bringing in some coaches and development expertise from way, way OUTSIDE the current org. In regards to the White Sox, if there is anything that I want to see changed its the scouting department. Maybe promote Marco Paddy to scouting director and bring in some people from outside the org.
  12. QUOTE (LDF @ May 5, 2015 -> 04:44 PM) here is a question to you, b/c i am trying to drag you into more of these discussions and others. i have confidence in Joshua Strong opinions. remember no one is wrong and everyone is right. who would you take Garrett Whitley or K. Tucker??? Kyle Tucker in a heartbeat, while I am confident in Whitely's prospects, I think that Tucker will be a better player. He has a very projectable body at 6'4 190lbs. He has the bat speed that you look for and he projects to hit for a high average while being a run producer for your team going forward. I do know that Whitley projects to be a five tool player, but I have not seen enough video on him to want to take him over Tucker.
  13. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ May 5, 2015 -> 03:29 PM) Too bad. Sox will nab him just before, I hope. I can dream of a future OF with he and Adolfo. That would be fantastic. Tucker will be a building block in the minors, that the Sox can add to their developing core but the Sox have to be careful with his development like all teams do with any player.
  14. According to Kiley, the Cubs are also attached to Kyle Tucker as well.
  15. Kiley McDaniel 5/5/15 chat 12:26 Comment From Kyle Tyler Stephenson going #1? 12:26 Kiley McDaniel: Some buzz he goes top 10 now. I’ll be seeing him in a playoff double header tomorrow. Should be interesting to see which teams are there after Dave Stewart was in last week. A fast rising player no doubt.
  16. I'm going to try and find as much video and info online regarding the players that the Sox have been linked to.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ May 4, 2015 -> 08:24 PM) but that is the point. in this kind of a draft, that will be different to each others. Different people are going to evaluate players differently, thats why you have to stick to your board.
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 3, 2015 -> 06:25 PM) None of the front office has been in their positions for 10 years. Thank you! Everyone needs to slow their role and relax, the season is still young.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ May 4, 2015 -> 08:11 PM) good point. lets look at last yr, the BPA was, hands down Rodon, even when the other teams were making their selection. this yr. my head is spinning. i can't for the life of me decide. Always go with BPA, especially in MLB.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 06:16 PM) is there a minimum offer or value for that round all the way thru 10 rnds?? I don't think there is, I'm looking through the CBA
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 02:19 PM) i think the minimum the team can offer is the minimum for that slot. which i do not know. it is in the CBA for the draft cap. which i think it is. For the comp rounds?
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2015 -> 09:18 AM) The question is would they take say $2.5 million from us, or risk falling further down the draft where the slot amount doesn't allow that much to be offered. The #16 spot in the draft is the last place that could offer $2.5 million without being over slot. If you move that number to $3.0 million, that number moves up to the #12 slot. Let's say that the Sox trade for a comp pick and it fall in the 33-39 range, I would draft Aiken and offer him $1M, Kiley McDaniel said that a lot of teams consider him undraftable.
  23. http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=draft The list now goes to 100
  24. It's never to early http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/20162017-ml...-early-edition/ I've been following Blake Rutherford for a while now and he is the real deal.
