QUOTE (Vance Law @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 02:28 PM) You are basically signing Walker to a 2 year deal for, let's say, $22 million PLUS giving up whatever it takes to get him which is probably 2 or 3 legit prospects. So a total waste if the Sox don't make a run in the playoffs in '16 or '17. Why would you do that instead of just paying money to Murphy or Kendrick. Also, at some point you're going to need to have some cheap homegrown talent filter onto the team at some positions. You'd be giving up on Sanchez (and Micah) who is already a plus defender who showed big improvement with the bat throughout the minors once he got more than a season of experience. You can't fill an ENTIRE team with medium-quality, expensive free agents/several year veterans (LaRoche, Melky, Walker, Freese, Asdrubal, etc.) Because both would cost a draft pick? At this point, I would rather trade prospects/players we have to get solid players back then burn through those top 3 picks next draft. If you can get through this offseason without trading Q, Anderson, or Fulmer and add talent, that is a big coup in my opinion moving forward.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:51 AM) You want to give $8 million to a backup catcher? Not really giving a ton of thought to actual values on contracts atm

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:27 AM) WAR is a cumulative stat, so you can't compare Walker's to Sanchez's or Johnson's because they didn't get as much playing time. Sanchez's war was negative because of his atrocious home/first half hitting. He seemed to figure it out by the end of the year. If given a full season, I think he could put up a positive WAR. His second half line was .252/.302/.385 and that was largely because of a hot July. If you truly want to break down his second half, here are the numbers: July .323/.344/.484 Aug .247/.286/.355 Sept/Oct .171/.259/.276 Not exactly lighting the world on fire.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 08:01 AM) If that's the case, then he becomes more attractive, but I'm still hesitant spending $10M on a 2B when have several passable options at that position and much bigger holes to fill. Not sure either 2B is all that passable. Even with his defense last season, Sanchez had a -0.2 fWAR and Micah had a -0.4. Walker, by comparison, had a 2.4 fWAR. I would say a 2.5 win improvement is probably worth $10 MM.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 07:36 AM) No thanks to Walker. Sure he could net the Sox a comp pick for the '17 draft but will that pick be worth what the Sox give up to acquire Walker is the question. I'm fine with Sanchez or Micah at 2B and would rather use resources to trade for a 3B, C or SS. I dont think you'd have to give up a lot of valuable trade chips for Walker
-
I'm not sure Walker is worth either Montas or Johnson. If they are trying to get rid of the salary though, I'd wonder if Sanchez and Danish would interest them? Sanchez provides them with the defense their FO values highly and Danish is the type of pitch to contact pitcher they covet. Walker would be perfect for the Sox because he not only fills an offensive void at 2B, but as Jimmy said, he will probably get a QO next offseason. So either we lock him up for a few years or get a draft pick for him and build the farm with more high picks.

@FanSided: The #Pirates are shopping Neil Walker, and the #Orioles are among those interested. https://t.co/Mf5Z2W1pdG This is a trade that makes too much sense for the White Sox. A 2-3 win 2B that can probably be had at a reasonable price and could slide in pretty well in the 2 hole.

"The White Sox, Black Holes, and Trading Quintana

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 04:45 PM) Can't imagine the Rangers are trading basically their farm system for 2 lefty pitchers in the span of like 6 or 7 months. Crazier things have happened and that package of prospects would certainly entice me, but I'd be pretty shocked if the Rangers came calling if we did/do make Q available Mazara and Profar both blocked, and they could use a reliable pitcher capable of 200 IP every year. Their staff has big health problems. -

I still think the Sox and Rangers line up really well. Q for a package revolving around Mazara, Profar (if his medicals check out), and Ortiz would have me interested. -

Improve the defense and base running considerably and this team gets better in a hurry without dealing Quintana. If you trade Q, it better be for a package like Hamels or better. -
I will add that even though the offseason traditionally "starts" at the winter meetings, there has already been plenty of activity around the league, some of which could have greatly benefited the team. It's just a really bad look for the FO. They can say whatever they want and we as a fanbase know KW talks out of his ass regularly, but they just dont look prepared.
-
Im fine with him throwing shade before the winter meetings, but to "go for it" last year, hit the FA market hard, and say you're in a 3 year window, only to follow it up by saying you might rebuild makes you look incompetent. That's not a look I want the fanbase seeing when Im in the business of selling tickets.

"White Sox still deciding on everything from a rebuild to adding to the payroll" Ugh, what?

QUOTE (knightni @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) http://www.purplerow.com/2015/11/16/974223...olorado-rockies Interesting article. Not sure I see the Indians as a great fit for CarGo though. I dont think they will have any interest in trading either of those prospects.

I'd be ok with trading for Freeman and Teharan

With the fire sale happening in Atlanta, I wonder what they are planning to do with Freddie Freeman. He would look good in the 3 hole ahead of Abreu.

QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) Jurickson Profar is a guy that I would absolutely love on the Sox. He's still extremely young, cheap, and talented. Injuries are the only thing that have slowed him down. I wonder if Montas could get him in a 1-for-1 deal. Daniels still regards him as a top prospect which is a hard sell considering he hasn't played a real game in 2 years. His shoulder sounds like it could be a major issue right now as he isn't even fielding in the AFL.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 13, 2015 -> 07:34 AM) Ask yourself this, why would the 3 worst team in baseball get rid of the defensive player of the year this season? I have no clue why they would get rid of him as he is a 2-4 win SS with 5 years left on a very team friendly contract. Seems like the Braves are going for a full on rebuild.

They really should've gone after Andrelton

The White Sox were one of “many teams” to which agent Brodie Van Wagenen made a presentation regarding Yoenis Cespedes, though the greater needs for the ChiSox come at catcher, third base, second base and shortstop. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/carl...es-rockies.html

This article brings up a good target for the Sox: http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-america...kest-positions/ They should pursue Dioner Navarro to split time with Flowers. Pretty good K% and BB%, solid defensively, better avg and obp than Flowers. Would be a nice compliment.

QUOTE (fathom @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 11:05 AM) Sure seems like Levine spinning what Hahn said to fit his agenda for the story. Pretty typical Levine "reporting". Takes quotes and then spins them with reckless abandon. Dude is one of the worst reporters in the city.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 09:05 AM) Thanks for this link. A little surprised Sanchez didn't do better. I've been favoring a quiet offseason for the Sox focused more on building for the next couple years, but man I wouldn't mind having Heyward. Throw everything at him, he'll probably opt out when he's 31 anyway. Keuchel being leagues ahead of every other pitcher is interesting. I think Keuchel's rating has to do largely with his GB%

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 07:53 AM) I think Eaton could handle RF. His arm is extremely good for being a slappy lead-off man (I know he's not that, but still. Better arm than you imagine looking at him). Eaton has a pretty average to below average arm in the time I've watched the Sox. He fits best in LF.
