QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 03:54 PM) Jim Bowden @JimBowden_ESPN 1m1 minute ago Giants deal with Cueto takes them out of Upton & Cespedes who now must concentrate on doing deals with #Angels #Cardinals #Orioles #WhiteSox Mozeliak says they wont be making a big splash and I relatively believe him
-
Not sure I see the Sox trading for Frazier or signing Upton/Cespedes unless the prices come down, so who are some viable trade targets for the White Sox that wouldnt cost them Tim Anderson or Carson Fulmer? A name I've been interested in is Martin Prado. You'd only be trading for a year of him so the price wouldnt be all that high, solid OBP that could fit in the 2 hole, low K%, excellent defensively at 3B, could be a real nice table setter for Abreu, has some versatility in that he can play 2B and 3B as well....I think he would present a nice option for the Sox.

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Dec 14, 2015 -> 08:19 AM) Ahhhh gotta give to get. Just hope he wasn't a flash in the pan. Todd Frazier? Safe to say he's not
-
He makes too much sense for this team, which is why it won't happen. Adds potent power bat behind Abreu...check, upgrades defense in leftfield....check, no draft pick compensation attached....check. All you have to do is spend the money for him. Atleast the Sox arent cheap though, right?

The pitching in our system is pretty nasty

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 12, 2015 -> 01:44 AM) Videos of him slamming his helmet down, punching a water cooler, huffing around enraged in the dugout answered the "rage-filled" equation. And his nickname from Oakland fans was "breh". The famous shirtless, 40oz pictures help support him being a "bro", outside of the Oakland fans calling him such. In case you were wondering, Nick Swisher was the last "bro" we had. Not quite as rage-filled though. Lol. Doesn't seem like anyone is going to change your mind, so I'm not going to try, but it's pretty ridiculous that you judge a person you've never met based on their looks or lifestyle. Donald Trump is doing something similar right now to millions of people...it's a bad look.

QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 10:36 PM) yes they to.... for spite. if they will not get what they want, they will keep him. Spite is not productive for the future of their franchise

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 10:30 PM) Anyone think we have the pieces to get a deal done without moving Fulmer or Anderson? It'd probably have to be more of a quantity over quality move. But I doubt the Reds have much motivation to move him right now. The Reds have no motivation to keep him

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:33 PM) The sox spend in free agency. Robertson and cabrera just last year. Internationally they've done pretty well with Rameirez and abreu recently. I've never really understood what the neighborhood has to do with watching a baseball game. My point all along is that the attendance wont challenge the cubs even with more playoff appearances. I just see more excuses in general from sox fans to not go. Last year they spent $128 million across 4 players. One of their biggest offseasons in franchise history. As a comparison, the f***ing Diamondbacks just spent $206.5 million on 1 player. Not saying that model is beneficial to building a winner, but the Sox hardly spend big in FA. They are always going for the lower tier guys. Abreu is the largest contract in franchise history at $68 million. Great gamble by the organization, but the Sox are 1 of, what, 8 teams that have never had a contract over $100 million? Over $70 million for that matter? They haven't gone over their J2 allotment yet to replenish an otherwise mediocre farm system that was greatly in need of a talent infusion. Neighborhood has a lot to do with bringing in money for a team, whether you choose to admit that or not is completely up to you. I like Bridgeport, but again, to a casual fan, what is there that would make you want to go to a game? Not everyone is a rabid baseball fan. I dont need them to compete with the Cubs, that really isn't feasible. I think it's a lazy narrative to say that Sox fans just make excuses though. People want to see postseasons, the Sox havent delivered on that. Interest will diminish when you arent ever playing in October.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 02:09 PM) This is what I mean. In the late 90's and 2000s the sox had one of the highest winning percaentages in baseball. Fans didnt go because thet werent in the playoffs. If the sox consistently nake the playoffs, fans wont go because they didnt win the world series often enough. I hafe season tickets because I enjoy baseball, live closer to the ballpark and enjoy the ballpark. The casual fan only cares about getting to the playoffs and how you do once you get there. That's just the way it is. Even with the Cubs, fans didnt really start coming out of the woodwork until August/September last year. I go to roughly 25 games a year, it sucks to see the stadium empty, but let's not pretend like the Sox have given fans all that much reason to go to the ballpark. They dont spend in FA, they dont spend internationally, they only recently started investing more in scouting/drafting, the park (while a perfectly acceptable place to catch a game) is kinda boring, the neighborhood doesnt really have a draw...unless the Sox start seeing the playoffs more, dont expect the attendance situation to change.
-
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:49 PM) I dont think it's the ballpark. Its really a great place to watch a game. I think it's sox fans in general look for excuses not to go. This organization hasnt really given fans a reason to go if we are being serious. Theyve been to the playoffs 6 times since 1920.

It would be an interesting exercise to see how Eaton's value would move if he was put in LF
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:30 PM) Why not? Because of the TV deals and attendance? You watch how that suffers the next couple of years as the cubs continue in this direction. I think you should take a deep breath and crack a beer. Things will be ok.
-
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:14 PM) I think the Rays are the only other team who has a better chance of moving. They still don't have a stadium deal, so they? I seriously wouldn't be surprised if we lost the White Sox. Name another team in MLB with a future as bleak as ours. Keep in mind... most other teams don't have to deal with a juggernaut in the same city. And the ones that do (Mets, Angels, etc) actually compete. The MLB would never allow the White Sox to move away from Chicago. It's not happening.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 12:17 PM) It is funny that Witenmeyer is the guy reporting this. A year ago he was crying how bleak it was for the Cubs, especially financially. That the banks told Ricketts to sell. Now, they are spending wildly. There are no excuses now. The greatest players, the greatest manager, Theo....it will be sweet when it all falls apart. Hard to believe they dont win a world series in the near future. If they dont though for some reason, I dont think their fanbase will ever come back from that.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 11, 2015 -> 01:50 AM) Eaton is far from the cocky, rage-filled "bro" that Lawrie is. Just because they were both thought to be annoying to their teammates doesn't mean they were annoying for the same reasons. "Rage-filled bro"? What gives you that impression?
-
I find it really odd that people keep trying to compare Avi and Lawrie in this thread. They are completely different players.
-
I wouldn't mind the Sox signing Upton and swinging a trade for Prado.
-
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 08:40 AM) I would wait out Cincinnati. Frazier just doesn't have that big of a market. It's been said that the White Sox and Indians are interested. Who else from the AL would be interested? Maybe Texas, LAA, Tampa Bay? What about the NL? I just don't see a huge market. Texas is talking about extending Beltre and TB has Longoria. LAA is a possibility but they have no prospects.

Steamer projections: .256/.309/.422, 22 2B, 17 HR, 61 RBI, 98 wRC+, 1.8 WAR
-
As an aside, looks like they reran his steamer projections since the trade and his SLG% went up about 30 pts. I dont think it's unfair to think he could be a 20 HR hitter this season.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 07:38 AM) If this was the best available 3B then I agree. He is a big step up from Saladino offensively and a big step down defensively. As I posted previously, his numbers are very comparable to Avi on offense and defense and both strike out too much. That's not evenly remotely true
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Dec 10, 2015 -> 01:12 AM) For real. If we magically added Frazier, the defense doesn't suffer and we add a whole lot of power to a power starved lineup. LaRoche never played for the Reds. Stop ruining his narrative!

Now it's sounding like its Lawrie...
