QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 01:07 PM) He still would cost Adams at a minimum, plus. Avi, on the other hand.... If he had so much value to them, they wouldnt be going after Cespedes.
-
IF the Nats do sign Cespedes for some reason, I would love for the Sox to try prying Taylor off them. He would be a fantastic 4th OFer option.

QUOTE (staxx @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) Not at all. No one ever expected or thought we could sign Cespedes this offseason. Getting Frazier and Lawrie has been fantastic along with the C change. Id give it an B+ right now, with a solid A/A+ if Cespy signs. Agreed, hard to hate the moves theyve made thus far. The OF situation needs to be resolved, but just because it hasnt been addressed thus far doesnt mean that both of those moves weren't fantastic. You picked up a 3+ win 3B and a 2ish win 2B, that's some solid progress.

Solid depth pieces going off the board quicker now, hope the Sox dont get caught with their dicks in their hands

This board is gonna be entertaining today

I think the Sox infield defense will be greatly improved this season. Left side of the field looks pretty lockdown in my opinion, I bet Lawrie will play a more than adequate 2B, and I think a better left side will help Abreu be a better 1B (better throws).

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 08:45 AM) I really have the feeling the White Sox are the only serious bidders out there. I've been thinking this for the last week or so. I think Roc Nation is trying to get the Mets involved, but they dont have an offer that beats the Sox and the Sox know it. That's why the Nationals have been brought into the whole thing, to make the Mets feel like they need to invest in Cespedes to stay atop the division. The Nationals have Werth at $21 million/year in LF, Revere and Taylor in CF, and Harper in RF, where is Cespedes going to play?

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jan 21, 2016 -> 07:53 AM) Hawk never said that . He said it would take " a lot of heat " off Avi. Why do people make things up ? It's caufield, he makes up a lot of strawman arguments

The Top 30 White Sox Prospects, Preseason 2016
Dunt replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Strictly a question meant for discussion: I havent seen Engel play, so I dont know if it's a decent comp, but I look at Kevin Kiermaier and think that they have the same sort of skill set. Is that a bad comp? -
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 20, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) I thought dramatic was great word choice. I just kinda picture it like a boyfriend and girlfriend fighting: Yoenis "What, you dont want to commit to me, Rick?" Rick "I'm not saying that, I just dont want to get to ahead of ourselves right now, you know?" Yoenis "YOU DONT LOVE ME!" Rick "Jesus. Yo, I think you're great. Would I really be here if I wasn't interested?" Yoenis "When can I move my stuff in?"
-
"Talks have been dramatic" The imagery of this is kinda funny

Jackson and Pearce would make an interesting tandem addition. Steamer projects them to have a combined 3.3 fWAR. Jackson R Eaton L Abreu R Frazier R Melky S LaRoche L Lawrie R Avila L Saladino R Jackson R Eaton L Abreu R Frazier R Melky S Pearce R Lawrie R Avila L Saladino R

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 03:56 PM) Agreed. Sell them on the stub hub electronic link. Even if it's only 10 on the day of the game, I've never had unused tickets. That's what I do early in the season. I love going to those early season games. No on there, you can sit anywhere, no lines for anything...it's pretty great.

24/7 Wall Street: Sox 5th largest declining fanbase in sports

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 03:49 PM) And it's also why the Cubs being good is bad for the Sox franchise, as the casual Chicago fan right now is definitely going to spend their money on Cubs games/merchandise as opposed to the Sox. It's truly amazing how little Sox merchandise is available at the local mall as opposed to Cubs stuff. Walked into Dick's to look for some Sox gear around Christmas and they had 1 rack of Sox stuff as opposed to whole sections for the Cubs and Blackhawks. -
QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 03:42 PM) Desmond is much worse defensively at SS than Anderson. That is based on....what? I think you guys are overstating how poor Desmond's defense is. Desmond's 2015 was largely regarded as pretty poor and he still ranked as a better defender than Alexei. He's a league average to slightly below league average defensive SS. His value is heavily tied to his offense.

1 playoff appearance in 10 years will do that -
QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/resetting-t...oenis-cespedes/ Article about all the remaining candidates and their likelihood. Strangely, he puts Baltimore as the current favorites, followed by the Mets. Says we're a second-tier candidate along with the Angels and Giants, and calls the Astros an intriguing dark-horse. Hard to believe the Giants and Orioles would still be possibilities. He also says that Detroit is all in at this point and need a DH. Apparently Victor is just retiring?
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 12:05 PM) He was an overslot pick, got 3rd round money. Defense is a question with him - he's a bit stiff and has a hitch in his throws. Power development also a question, as is the development of the hit tool generally. There's a lot to like, but he does need more polish. He's got 2 years to iron that stuff out, no real rush
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 11:03 AM) Add Fister and Lincecum to that package and I'd be ok with it. But if the Sox got both Jackson and Pearce, what would happen to Shuck? What about Avi? Trade Avi for high leverage relief pitching
-
If they lose out on Cespedes, give me Jackson and Pearce and call it an offseason. That's 3.3 fWAR you're adding, better D in CF, and a good platoon option with LaRoche and bat off the bench.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 19, 2016 -> 08:42 AM) I think that's a pretty solid prediction. I still don't understand what everyone sees in Michalczewski, though. I'm not saying he doesn't deserve to be on the list, but I think he is overrated by most on this board. He's young for his league every season, pretty elite walk rate at every stop, sounds like his defense will atleast be league average, the biggest question now is how will the power develop. I think he can be an every day regular at the major league level and that's a pretty big coup for a 6th round pick.
-
Catching depth at the lower levels isnt looking too bad, hopefully one of those guys can pan out as a regular. I really hope Zavala ends up being something.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 10:07 PM) I agree. People complain about not building a consistent winner but then want them to sign long term deals that willbe awful in 3-4 years. Pick a lane. I prefer the patient uild the team through prudent trades and drafts. What, in your mind, has shown the Sox willingness to build a consistent winner? Smart drafting? Going big in J2? Going after guys that are perfect fits for a competing team (ex. Heyward)? The Sox FO has no idea how to build a consistent winner, that's why this organization has been in the playoffs 6 times in the last 80 years.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jan 18, 2016 -> 09:32 PM) So now the Sox HAVE to sign Cespedes. The optics otherwise will be a public relations disaster for this team, and an abject organizational embarrassment. No team during the past five, six weeks has been tied into being "in" on not one, not two, but all three of the so-called "top tier" free agent outfielders more so than the White Sox. We were "interested" in Gordon. We were "in" on Upton. We were "considering" Cespedes. Then the leak. The leak that we were only interested in making an offer to any of the three of them for "three years or LESS". Enter the small market intra-divisional Royals, who move in and lock up Gordon on a four year contract. Tonight, another AL Central rival, the Tigers, sign Upton to a six year deal. And this on the heals of our intra-city rival Cubs signing Heyward to an eight year contract. Welcome to market economics! If another team swoops in now and snags Cespedes on something resembling more what the market is bearing vs. this three year offer business the Sox are operating under, then it will be a colossal failure of Hahn, Williams, and Reinsdorf. It will call into question their credibility when they claim over and over and over again their strong desire to return to the postseason as quickly as possible, and thereby maximize the window of opportunity with the current core. I trust they realize this, and will soon be announcing the signing of Yoenis Cespedes to be our left fielder and clean-up hitter for the foreseeable future. If not, well, it'll be quite the black eye on this management team's reputation, and will seriously call into question the capabilities of the team's ownership and management. Soxfest will be a riot
