QUOTE (raBBit @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 11:37 AM) I went to five games in September of 2012 and I never waited in line in the bathroom during a pennant race. I was there when Sale and Quintana ran out of gas and the offense dissipated. I'm sure you were there every game given your rhetoric, but there was no crowd excitement, no 75% filled stadium or anything. I remember going to a Sale-Verlander matchup that September that was maybe a 1/3 full. I couldnt believe it.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 15, 2016 -> 09:19 AM) KC also outearned the White Sox based on the 2014, and for sure will again on the 2015 season. A whole $4 million more in revenue in 2015. Despite back to back playoff runs. A team from Kansas City outspends a team from Chicago, that's lunacy.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 14, 2016 -> 11:41 PM) $120 million is a lot of f***ing money. Not in the MLB it's not. You're getting outspent by the Kansas City Royals.

QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 09:16 PM) Talks are fluid. As some have stated, they have a range they will stay within for free agents. As of tonight that's not a match for either camp. It's really that simple. Yikes.

QUOTE (blackmooncreeping @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 04:34 PM) Time will tell on Avi. Too much doom and gloom in this take though; just because a free agent doesn't pick the Sox, it isn't automatically a failure per say. Sox would no doubt consider it a failure to overpay on a guy and have it hinder them in the future. Depends on the perspective. If they are already worrying about the future with all the talent they have locked up right now, then they are already screwed. This was the time to go for it and they so predictably fell short.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 01:20 PM) Semantics. Either they were too stubborn to address it, or they misunderstood the market and their capacity to take advantage of it. In both cases it's a failure with the same end result: Avisail Garcia having a prominent role on the team again. So ever since Soxfest they've been feeding us the same fluffy garbage that we heard year after year about Beckham and Viciedo. I will continue to hope that we find a replacement before the season starts. Failing that, I will root for Garcia and hope that he proves everybody wrong and simultaneously learns how to hit, field, and run at a major league level. But this has been a failure and it rightfully casts a shadow over the rest of the moves of the offseason - good, productive moves in their own right. Because this team had a very easy, obvious hole to fill. One more thing that clearly needed fixing, and they couldn't do it. And now I have to hear about how Avi Garcia is in the Best Shape Of His LifeTM again. I mean my god, how stupid do they think we are? Sorry. This rant was a long time coming and it's not aimed at you, HH. f*** yes to all of this. Couldnt have been too serious if neither ever seriously considered them. They can pay it lip service all they want, but this will be a failure we will all remember for a very long time. The first second Avi and the team fails this year, it will get poured on hard. No contending team would have Avi as a starter, plain and simple.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 12, 2016 -> 11:49 AM) Garcia is the bigger issue, because something can actually be done about it. We're stuck with LaRoche. Agreed. Garcia has been the biggest issue all along and they are just too stubborn to address it. He's a liability in the outfield, in the batters box, and on the base path. The fact that they've done nothing to address the situation is inexcusable. When he starts inevitably f***ing up this season again, he will get eaten alive at the ballpark and the White Sox will have nobody to blame but themselves. It's going to be really ugly.

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 08:28 PM) Common sense tells you that if you're given the choice between believing Heyman or Nightengale you believe Heyman. Let's not overthink this. This. I realize Hayes has been away from the team most of the offseason, but with the way things have kinda unfolded today, I really think the Sox are in pretty hard on Desmond. Hope it gets done tomorrow, another week of this might kill me.

"In talks with" sounds more like contract talk time than kicking the tires on him IMO. This is getting interesting.

QUOTE (bmags @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:47 PM) Depth has been sorely lacking on this team. Having two players with elite defense and speed on the bench isn't something we should just trade for...trades sake. I dont really think you need a guy with elite defense at 1 position though is what Im saying. Saladino plays better defense and has better speed, bat is probably a little better too.

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 11, 2016 -> 02:42 PM) .674 OPS last year, right? He had an awful first half then bounced back pretty big in the 2nd half. .262/.331/.446 is nothing to sneeze at IMO.
-
I would love a Desmond signing. Infield would have serious power and then you could try trading for an OF piece to platoon with Avi. Couple of random thoughts if this were to happen: 1.) Do you sign him for 2-3 years or offer him a 1 year prove it deal where you recoup the comp pick after next season? 2.) If Saladino is moved to utility, that pretty much makes Carlos Sanchez expendable, right? I think Saladino can cover anywhere in the infield better than Sanchez

So he's Alexei?

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 06:15 PM) Problem is Boras. Jackson is likely holding out for $10+ million. Add Desmond and that's probably at least $23 million. He should probably remember he's Austin Jackson and pitchers and catchers report in a week
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 06:04 PM) Still think the Sox are higher on Desmond than Fowler based on all sorts of comments from SoxFest. The market played out so well for a potential steal combo of Desmond and Jackson, I can't believe the Sox haven't already jumped at the opportunity. That lineup would be pretty sweet: Eaton RF Cabrera LF Abreu 1B Frazier 3B LaRoche DH Desmond SS Lawrie 2B Avila C Jackson CF
-
QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Feb 10, 2016 -> 04:09 PM) Austin Jackson and a nice three high picks come draft time to rebuild the recently lost prospects is going to sit well with me. Fowler doesnt do much for a moribund OF defense. I'd be more than happy with Austin Jackson at this point, I've maintained OF defense is the quickest way to get this team better.

Sox brass is going to get pounded if Avi is your starting RFer

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 04:28 PM) No Jennings? He had a great 2nd half (1.39 ERA) and basically had one bad stretch in May. Outside of that he was rock solid. I'd trust him more than Duke next year. Didn't realize his numbers were that good in the 2nd half, K/BB took a decent dip, but otherwise it looks good. Don't see Johnson making this team then.
-
Interested to hear how people would stack up the pitching staff if the season started today. Obviously things could happen in the meantime, but think I would run out the following: SP Sale SP Quintana SP Rodon SP Latos SP Johnson CL Robertson SU Jones SU Duke RP Albers RP Putnam RP Petricka RP Danks

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) Is anyone else a little worried that the Sox are done making impact moves? I'm starting to think this may have been it in terms of starters. I dont think they are done at all. This was an area of weakness and they insulated themselves a little bit in case someone doesnt pan out. I still think an OFer is added in the next week, I'd be really shocked if they decided Desmond was the guy with Anderson so close. Just makes a ton of sense to get Fowler or Jackson out there to improve OF D. You can live with Saladino's bat at short as long as he's providing you plus defense.
-
I honestly see nothing wrong with getting Erik work out of the pen this year as a swing man. If he is truly someone they want to keep around as a 5 once Danks and Latos are gone, I think it makes perfect sense to get him more major league exposure this season and maybe save some of those relief arms for later in the season.

QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Feb 9, 2016 -> 03:22 PM) Just to point out roster is now full. I see plenty of names on that 40 man you can get rid of

Nothing other than organization filler
-
I dont really care about personalities. You can tell me to f*** off to my face as long as you win games. This makes the Sox better, starting pitching depth was a serious concern and this goes a long way to address that problem. Get a Get this RFer situation solved and this has been a hell of an offseason.
