Austin Jackson's fWAR since entering the league: 2010 4.0 2011 2.4 2012 5.4 2013 3.0 2014 0.9 2015 2.3 Its not a sexy name, but there is a lot of value in a guy that doesnt cost a pick, plays above average defense, and can run the bases well. Fowler is a hotter name because of his ability to get on base, but I bet they have pretty similar values next season.

Cut the bulls*** and get this done. He is right f***ing there for you.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ Jan 15, 2016 -> 12:56 PM) It's at least an offer. A true "we tried!" No it's not.

Good work if you can get it

Thinking a little further down the line, the thought of a 9-1-2 of Anderson-Eaton-Fowler setting the table for Abreu and Frazier is real tasty.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 02:10 PM) Good for Alexei, I'll always root for him. I'm sure if the Sox are in contention and Saladino is struggling, we'll hear rumors of him as a trade possibility for the Sox. If the Sox are in contention and Saladino is struggling, Anderson will be up.

You know how you could really dampen the blow of losing that comp pick? Use that difference in money between Cespedes and Fowler and combine it with the amount of money you're losing in that comp pick spot and spend it all next J2. Just sayin.

So how do you stack your batting order if Fowler is indeed the option? Eaton L Fowler S Abreu R Frazier R Melky S LaRoche L Lawrie R Avila L Saladino R Fowler S Eaton L Abreu R Frazier R LaRoche L Melky S Lawrie R Avila L Saladino R Interesting to note the spots in the batting order where Melky has been best: 1st .287/.349/.404 2nd .284/.331/.412 3rd .338/.375/.513 4th .281/.339/.456 5th .269/.333/.346 6th .253/.303/.345 7th .273/.350/.401 8th .243/.301/.359 9th .297/.338/.408 How would you feel about this lineup? Fowler S Eaton L Cabrera S Abreu R Frazier R LaRoche L Lawrie R Avila L Saladino/Anderson R

QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:42 AM) And didn't Desmond get a QO? If we signed both guys would we lose two picks? If so which picks? Comp and 2nd rd, both in top 50. I wouldn't count on signing Desmond.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 11:30 AM) Here's what I continue to not like about Fowler. He is not a bad player. He's a good player! But I hate this outfield for the next 3 years: Melky Eaton Fowler At its best, that is maybe 45 HRs from the outfield, but more realistically it is around 30. We would still want to upgrade one of those positions throughout fowlers contract. Melky is only on the team for 2 more, and is probably the DH next season

I dont see why Cespedes would take a 1-2 year deal with the Mets over a 4 year deal with the Sox. That makes absolutely no sense.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:33 AM) CF Did you watch the playoffs?

QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 10:30 AM) Some rumors that Cespedes might be close to going back to the Mets http://www.nysportsday.com/2016/01/13/excl...-with-the-mets/ Where does he play?
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 14, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) So just to be clear, The braves just traded Shelby Miller for Inciarte, Dansby Swanson and 3 other prospects, and we would then trade Q for just Inciarte. Seems like good market rate addition. If they wanted to send that exact package here for Q, I'd consider it. Would probably need to add a little though.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) I'd take Gomez depending on price. They could give him the QO next offseason. Would also be okay with Gomez depending on price, always enjoyed his game and unlike many of the options discussed thus far, he still plays stellar defense in addition to being a force offensively
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 13, 2016 -> 12:15 PM) Not interested in one year of Gomez. Tucker or Marisnick would have to be the targets but the problem is that one of them would likely go to Atlanta for Inciarte. Marisnick is maybe a defensively replacement. No way he should be a starter.

QUOTE (Sockin @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) FWIW Merkin just said on his podcast that he's predicting Garcia is the opening day RF. Merkin, you are out of your element

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 10:04 AM) Curious how much further one of the OF'ers would take them. Assuming they would be replacing Avi and they are using Avi's projected Steamer prediction: Cespedes 2.6 wins Upton 2.5 wins Pearce 1.7 wins Fowler 1.4 wins Parra 0.7 wins CarGo 1.4 wins

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 09:08 AM) Take it with a grain of salt. That article has Austin Jackson going to the Nat's who have a much cheaper option in Michael Taylor as their 4th outfielder. For some reason I just cannot see Fowler being the big upgrade the Sox need for the outfield. Eaton has a strong arm, he just needs to catch and throw instead of trying to bait the base runners into challenging his arm. Still yet, I think Eaton would be a better LF than RF. Problem is that Melky should not be in RF either. Damn does this team have some OF issues! Eaton's arm ranks 20th of qualified CFers, Fowler's ranks 16th (out of 23). Strangely enough, it looks like Melky has a worse arm than either so my original point is completely baseless now
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:41 AM) Or that Cespedes' camp has reached back out to teams to ask for more money on shortened deals I highly doubt the Mets have the resources to sign Cespedes to $20+ MM. Anyways, their outfield is more than set already unless they are looking to move Conforto or Granderson.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:29 AM) Mets in on Cespedes per NYDN That tells you exactly how far his price has fallen FWIW
-
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Jan 12, 2016 -> 08:17 AM) This article predicts that Fowler will come to the Sox. Any thoughts? http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...d-fowler-end-up Eaton doesnt have the arm for RF, it would make more sense to move him to LF and Melky to RF then.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 07:50 PM) That's Marcus Stroman, JD Martinez, and Cespedes today at a golf outing Oh man, Stroman is going to the Tigers now too?!

QUOTE (SoCalSox @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 11:34 AM) If the White Sox were to go with someone like Fowler, etc over Cespedes & Upton, with the possibility of improving at SS or a back of the rotation guy, would people be happy with that or not enough? I'd be fine with it if there were options at SS and SP, but I dont think anything on the FA market really makes sense for the Sox. Say you add Fowler and Desmond, you go from 3 picks in the top 50 to 1? That's awful for the farm and both of those guys are going to be question marks coming to the AL. On paper you're a stronger team, but losing those picks hurts a ton, especially since Im not quite sure the Sox would try to make up for those picks by going over budget next J2. I look at the current situation presented to the Sox and just cant help but think adding Cespedes is the perfect scenario right now. Market has allowed the price to come down some, signing him would be no detriment to the farm system, he brings even more power to our previously ISO-starved lineup, he actually grades out well in LF, and his eventual contract lines up pretty well with the discussed window of the Sox. Not to mention, with Cespedes in tow, the major league roster for the White Sox is largely set over the next couple of seasons which will further allow them to build the farm and not have to rush players to the majors. There is so much value in signing Cespedes right now, I find it absolutely incredible JR hasnt already greenlit the move. It makes so much sense, the Sox probably wont do it.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jan 11, 2016 -> 10:44 AM) GM Jon Daniels of the Rangers is on MLBN now and said they aren't in the market for an OFer because it doesn't make sense financially and they have a lot of guys in the farm in case Ruggiano or Hamilton get hurt or aren't producing. Mentioned James Jones, Nomar Mazara, Lewis Brinson, Joey Gallo, and Jurickson Profar. It makes zero sense for them to sign an OFer, especially 1 that has a pick attached.
