QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 07:14 AM) The more I think about it, I'm all for giving Thompson a look in CF, sliding Eaton over to LF, & moving Melky to DH. We'd still need to add a strong two-way player for RF and dump LaRoche, but that would greatly improve our outfield defense vs. last year. Just have a bad feeling Avi is still in the plans for RF. I've said it once and I will say it again: Jason Heyward makes way too much sense for the Sox. I know it's a massive pipe dream, but if they were to sign him and somehow trade LaRoche, an alignment of Eaton-Thompson-Heyward would be a massive jump in DRS for our outfield. I dont see a lot of balls dropping in that outfield.

Tyler Flowers was our best defender: http://sabr.org/sdi/2015-final If the Sox want to get better quickly this offseason, first order of business is the outfield defense. Absolutely atrocious showing by those 3 in 2015.

@Ken_Rosenthal: More on #Reds: Team will be open-minded on offers for Frazier; Votto, Phillips both have full no-trade protection. More difficult to move.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 04:42 PM) What I came up with in a waiting room today... Sign Alexei Ramirez for 2 year 14 million Lack of options, bounce back candidate and stop gap. Sign Rich Hill 2 year 16 million. Dude has pitched sparingly but has been highly effective the last few years especially down the stretch for the Red Sox last year. I imagine they'll try to retain him but they have Buccholz, Johnson, Rodriguez and Porcello + whatever big-ticket starter they add. Lots of potential for surplus value as he has fixed his mechanics. Sign Kenta Maeda – 20 million posting & 5 year, 70 million. Knocks on him are his slender frame. Dominant in Japan. Paying for 28-33 year old seasons. No compensation past money. Replaces hole left by Quintana. Trade Erik Johnson, Adam LaRoche and 6 million for Matt Adams. Cardinals have Piscotty ®, Bourjos®, Jay(L), Holliday®, Pham ® and Grichuck® in the outfield. Whispers are they are going to move Holliday to 1B but he's unwilling. LaRoche could break up all the righties in the middle of the lineup and sit vs. lefthanded pitching when Holliday/Pham/Piscotty cover 1B. The can sub in Boujos/Jay in the OF late and switch the less defensive oriented OF to 1B to have a great defensive unit. Johnson gives them an arm to help stomach the loss of Lackey/Lynn. Wainright, Lynn, Garcia aren't spring chickens anymore so Johnson gives them another young arm to add to Wacha/Martinez. Trade Frankie Montas for Martin Prado Not much explanation needed here. Prado covers 3B and hits second. I don't believe Montas can start. Not sure what the market will think of Montas but I think it's a worthy move. Trade Jose Quintana and Micah Johnson to Arizona for David Peralta, Chris Owings, Archie Bradley and Keith Kessler. Peralta is the key. BABIP is a bit high and he plays in AZ so his stats aren't as pure as they'd look in a glance but he's a well-above average LH bat who is pre-arb. Owings is a guy who was hamstringed by a bad wrist and is a great bounceback candidate. Do the look and see approach at both 2B/SS. Bradley has had an up-and-down career in AZ and scouts and executives have pinned him as a potential trade candidate. Good GB% and nice four pitch mix for the Sox to work with. Keith Kessler is a guy who hasn't had much of a chance in the MLB but I think can become a dominant LHSU. Sucks losing Quintana for reasons that don't need to be said and Johnson seems to have fallen out of favor and could find a role in AZ who lacks a 2B other than the skeleton known as Aaron Hill. Trade Avi Garcia for Tucker Barnhart Neither leave much to be excited about but fit their new teams much better. Barnhart is a light hitting switch-hitter who does everything well other than hitting and running. Noted that he works well with pitchers which the Sox love. L CF Adam Eaton R 3B Martin Prado R 1B/DH Jose Abreu L RF David Peralta S LF Melky Cabrera L DH/1B Matt Adams R SS Alexei Ramirez/Chris Owings R C Tyler Flowers S/R 2B Carlos Sanchez/Chris Owings Bench: INF Owings/Sanchez, OF Thompson, C Barnhart and Saladino/Shuck L SP1 Chris Sale R SP2 Kenta Maeda L SP3 Carlos Rodon L SP4 Rich Hill R SP5 Archie Bradley RHP Robertson RHP Jones LHP Dule LHP Jennings RHP Putnam LHP Hessler RHP Petricka Key here is to keep the draft picks and add cost effective players who can add to the team for years to come. I like most all of that outside the Q trade. Giving up a lot for not that much in return IMO. Peralta had a great season, but he's 28 and has way less of a track record than Q.

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 01:19 PM) It's just way too much for him. I know we need a catcher but that's getting fleeced. It's probably more in line than you think.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:59 PM) I was about to make a rebuttal... but then I saw Lucroy's 2015 stats. His 700+ OPs despite playing injured most all season? His projections for 2016 are .279/.343/.435 and he costs $5 MM next season. He isn't going to be had for a song.

GM Meetings version: -Extend Samardzija QO, he rejects it -Decline Alexei's option -Resign Albers -Sign Nobuhiro Matsuda to 3 yr, $36 MM deal -Trade Fulmer, Danish, Trey, and low level arm for Jonathan Lucroy CF Eaton C Lucroy 1B Abreu DH LaRoche LF Cabrera 3B Matsuda RF Thompson 2B Sanchez SS Saladino BE A. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) Could Nobuhiro Matsuda be an option at 3B? He's already 32 but has put up nice numbers in Japan. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/nobu...eda-timing.html Here's one of his homers: He makes a lot of sense for this team, I really hope they explore the possibility

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 11:31 PM) Engel went 2/3, 2B, 3B, BB, 3 R, SB. Now hitting .420 on the Fall. 5 straight multi-hit games. Is that good? God I hope this carries over to the spring

Seems to be pretty evident he isn't coming back unless he wants to take an actual discount

QUOTE (bruni @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 12:32 PM) That's not enough for Q. Really? Baez and Soler are MLB ready, cheap and have a chance to be special offensive talents. Castro is a 10 year younger version of Alexi with all the + and - that go into that mix. And you add in 2 pitchers to the young mix you have coming up through the system. Seems fair to me for Q plus Viciedo Jr. or do you somehow see better in other systems that would be available? Can't win if you can't hit, play D or manage. Maybe we make them throw in Davy Martinez to manage too! So why would we want Baez, Soler, and Castro then?

QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Go for Plouffe now Actually, strike that. Freese has better career numbers, no point in getting rid of assets when we can pick up a better player in FA. -

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:08 AM) Phillies, Brewers, Reds, Cubs, White Sox, Twins, and Astros. Is this the current list? Yup. Reds and Cubs dont need a 1B, so neither of those make sense. Phillies and Brewers are in full rebuilds. So I have this down to a 3 team race. -

QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 08:03 AM) I'd seriously be stunned if we made this move... Im not sure I would be. Seems like a total White Sox move. Take a chance on a guy that may produce for less money than top free agents. The LaRoche contract makes it a little murky, but as I said earlier, the Sox had 3 1B/DH 2 seasons ago, so it's not like it's out of the realm of possibility. -

QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 07:42 AM) Rockies are serious players for Park, per The Purple Row this morning. Not sure how they can be serious players for him, it's not free agency. They either bid or they didn't. -
