  1. 162 or whatever this year will be is a grind. Guys get banged up and need days off. Eloy is bound to hurt himself in LF to where he might need to sit a game or two (please nothing serious again!). There really isn't a log jam amongst guys deserving to play everyday when you factor in rest/maintenance days over the course of a long season.
  2. I’m definitely interested in Bembry. Augustin wouldn’t be the worst replacement for Matt Thomas. I’d take Eubanks as well.
  3. You just compared Manny Ramirez to 3 dudes that will be lucky to ever combine to come remotely close to a single season of what Manny produced at the plate. Laughable comparison aside, Manny’s bat made up for his bad D. Vaughn is the only of this combo platter amalgam of bad worthy of playing everyday, but not in RF. Sheets is a statue running in mud in the OF. Engel can’t stay healthy and shouldn’t face RH pitching. Vaughn is adequate in LF but lacks the range for RF. If I’m over exaggerating how bad they will be, you and others are blatantly ignoring the bad trying to squint and wish for it to be some magical solution not needing desperately to be addressed. It’s silly IMO to expect them to be a passable solution let alone a good one.
  4. I saw a tweet suggesting he was going to try to play through it. He was in obvious pain yesterday but he was a big boost IMO. I don’t know if it’s a comfort thing or what but I expected his fingers to be wrapped more than just the broken finger.
  5. If they could pull this off it would be perfect IMO. Addresses the two biggest needs with good fits. Balances the roster fairly well. I would be ecstatic to roll into the season with this roster.
  6. I really think those advocating for a Sheets/Vaughn/Engel “combo platter” are ignoring how catastrophically bad that platoon would be on defense for an entire season. There is a possibility they could be above average offensively, but we are talking Daniel Palka bad defensively. I don’t know Conforto’s game all that well but I have to believe his defense makes up for whatever slight edge the “combo platter” might have at the plate.
  7. Substitute lazy move for lazy response and violà.
  8. I think they just have to cut their losses on this one. Can’t take the move back and need that salary use elsewhere. If he rebounds elsewhere so be it. He won’t be closing here and it’s dumb to pay that much for him to fail in a different role.
  9. I will say that I won’t be surprised one bit if Vaughn & Sheets platoon in RF in 2022. It won’t change my view that it’s terrible idea, a potential disaster defensively, and begging for a serious injury.
  10. Sheets has no range and no feel for the OF. Vaughn is too slow to cover the gaps in RF. I don’t trust Engel to stay healthy or to be worthy of regular ABs. Robert already has to make up for Eloy’s deficiencies in LF, and has already had one serious lower body injury. Expecting/requiring Robert to cover for two terrible corner OFs every single game is too much to ask. It’s begging for another injury. It is far more sensible to sign/acquire a real RF instead of running out a bad 1B, a good 1B/decent LF, and an unreliable 4th OF and pretending as if that is acceptable for division champ looking to make a deep playoff run. The likelihood of that arrangement turning out well is very very low IMO.
  11. Comforto in RF + any capable cheap vet glove only 2B, or Leury. I want zero part of a Sheets/Vaughn/Engel RF platoon all season. Its a disaster waiting to happen IMO.
  12. Thanks for wasting everyones time there Manfred.
  13. I wasn't even hoping for a game changer - just a legit step to show that they want to find a good faith agreement. All of Manfred's talk the other day was just more hot air.
  14. Yup. Left hand hitting RF that shouldn't be too costly and isn't a total liability defensively. Sounds like exactly what the Sox need.
  15. Vaughn, Sheets, Grandal, Eloy, Abreu, and Collins can't play RF either. Engel shouldn't be counted on to start regularly after last season. Sox need a legit starting RF.
