  1. Actually it isn't, I've really stopped paying a lot of attention...just tune in occasionally, check box scores, read the newspapers. It's actually a little refreshing for wont of a better word not to agonize over every game especially in a pennant race. This season was over after three weeks, no pressure now, just relax and laugh at the incompetence. On another note... The is the 8th game this year the Sox had a lead in the 7th inning or later and lost. Brebbia's ERA is now almost eight, another waste of millions of dollars on flotsam and jetsem that passes for a major league player by the Sox organization. Nine in a row now and 15 of 18. ?
  2. The inmates are running the asylum at all levels it appears.
  3. Latest recap of where things stand. According to the story the Sox had not responded yet on a request for comments. Story also says that a motion has been filed by a state legislator requiring that any funds given to men's stadium deals must also include provisions for women's pro sports stadiums: https://chicago.suntimes.com/bears/bears-stadium/2024/05/31/bears-stadium-funding-springfield-illinois-general-assembly
  4. Most owners did indeed loath him especially after he testified on behalf of Curt Flood is his case against MLB trying for free agency. They also despised him for suggesting back in the 50's a revenue sharing plan, which the Yankee owners (naturally) called socialistic. One person who was listening and who asked for more details was a guy named Alvin "Pete" Rozell who used the info to go to congress and get an exemption letting the NFL form a national TV contract and equally share the TV revenue. And led by Bud Selig the owners initially turned down his bid to get the Sox in the winter of 1975 imposing harsh conditions. Somehow Veeck got it done. Tigers owner John Fetzer was overheard at the owners meeting (by a reporter who placed a glass up against the wall next door and listened in) as saying (paraphrasing) 'Look we don't like the SOB but we gave him conditions he had to meet and he met them. We have got to do the honorable thing and vote to give him the franchise.'
  5. Of course he's grateful, no other team would hire him as manager not even the Royals!
  6. As I've previously posted given the limitations imposed by the owner, can you think of another way to try to win? The only way I can see is what they are doing, keep trading guys, keep getting back young, cost controlled talent and hope it works. Now if you can convince JR to really open his checkbook, fire his toadies and bring in established winning baseball executives I'd be happy to try another way. Until then just hang in there and see what new ownership brings.

  8. Many would say they already are.
  9. Yet he continues to make money, a lot of it, so how much he really cares at the age of 88? Nobody knows for sure.

  11. Pedro is now left with these postgame comments to DVS of the Sun-Times: “We have to continue to grind, continue to work. There is no magic wand here. No magic remedy.” ?
  12. They should but they won't be...unfortunately at least not yet.
  13. They scored a paltry 18 runs the entire seven game homestand.
  14. It depends on how old you are. For example I was born in 1955. I was 13 before I even knew what a losing White Sox season was. The time period from 1951-1967 was excellent. 1972 (Dick Allen) and 1977 (South Side Hit Men) were memorable years. The "new look" White Sox from 1981-1985 had a good run. 1990-1996 was nothing to complain about overall. Then 2000-2006 was very good with a World Series title. Since 2007 though basically it has been dogshit.
  15. I predict by the All-Star break this team will be 40 games under .500. Right now 27 under and counting. Hope they roll over and die to the Brewers at least that would screw over the Cubs.
  16. Again I think it is something just inherent in the organization, it's now a losing culture at all levels and in all departments. Only thing that cures it is new ownership firing everybody on the baseball side and basically starting over like an expansion team.
  17. Agreed and the fact that JR apparently hasn't blown a gasket over this as fiscally responsible as he claims to be, like I said, is mind-blowing. This has gone on for over a decade. Yet he draws the line at doing what is necessary at bringing in "superstar", "franchise changing" talent. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

  19. We are fans of the relationship between the team and us as a fan since in most cases the Sox have been a big part of our lives. That is hard to just let go of when it has been part of your DNA for decades.
  20. It's probably a combination but I highlighted the area I though was most impactful. Since the start of the 2007 season the Sox are one of the worst franchises in baseball. Players know this, agents know this, baseball executives know this. It's now a culture of losing which permeates the organization from top to bottom. It's almost like, 'If you aren't good enough to play for a decent team, hook on to the White Sox..." They are willing to take almost anybody. Not saying the players aren't trying but after spending a decent amount of time with the club, reality and human nature set it. Plus it is not like the Sox are even attempting to bring in quality players anymore, unless they overpay who is willing to join this incompetent, dysfunctional and inept organization? New ownership has to come in, fire literally everyone on the baseball side of the operation, from the G.M. to the doctors and trainers and all in between to make a statement to baseball that things are going to be different. Then maybe change can come into play.
  21. Sox about to lose their 7th straight. Honestly hope they lose something like 12-15-17 straight.
  22. Pedro knows where his bread is buttered doesn't he: https://chicago.suntimes.com/white-sox/2024/05/28/white-sox-manager-pedro-grifol-says-he-hears-enough-from-jerry-reinsdorf-to-know-he-wants-to-win And yes, JR wants to win BUT he wants to win his way and history shows his way does...not...work.
  23. It's absolutely incredible to me that JR who apparently wants to win "so badly" and is so fiscally responsible hasn't blown his top over the millions and millions of dollars wasted on has-been's, injury-prone guys, dead beats and stiffs. Just mind blowing.
  24. He was the definition of an arrogant umpire who thought fans were coming out to see him.
