QUOTE (Buehrlesque @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 04:12 PM) Bunting for a hit is different than sacrifice bunting. If Timmy wants to hone his ability to bunt for a hit, that's fine. But what he did yesterday was not that. This, along with Saladino's bunt the night before in our only real scoring threat of the night, was extremely hard to watch.

Now that Moncada is the everyday second baseman, the Sox have a surplus of utility infielders. Sanchez, Saladino, Davidson, Hanson, and Leury are all capable of stepping into the 3B/DH roles, and one would have to assume that Davidson is taking up one of those spots every day. With teams like Tampa Bay and Washington potentially needing infield help, I can definitely see Yolmer being moved at the deadline since he won't find much playing time here.

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 07:05 PM) Nice. Maybe Flete goes to AA then He definitely would deserve it. Nothing left for him to prove in A+. -
Patrick Nolan @SSS_pnoles The White Sox have 17 failed sacrifice bunt attempts in 2017. Half the remaining American League teams haven't even attempted more than 17.

Once Clippard/Swarzak or any reliever gets traded, I think someone like Pelfrey should be moved to the bullpen (or, even traded) so that Lopez, and eventually Fulmer, can start here. -
Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

Per Heyman, Brayan Hernandez is the top guy going for Phelps. -
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:11 PM) Arenado is a free agent the following year, and will be 29. I'd be more than happy to make a run at him. As would I. Arenado >>>>>>>>>>> Machado, even with the age difference

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 11:14 AM) Any chance he isn't starting tonight? I'm 100% sure he'll start tonight. Only possible reason he wouldn't start is if he gets injured or sick before the game.

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 12:32 AM) Look, I feel bad for him having lost his friend, but I think that's been a bit overplayed. His K-rate is every bit as obese as it was before he lost his friend. His BB-rate is every bit as laughable as it was beforehand. Again, I feel bad for him, but plenty of folks fight through personal loss and do just fine, in his walk of life, and in other professions as well. I think you're speculating just a bit by blaming his personal loss for his lack of ability. I'd be more open to that argument if his friend had been killed when we were well into the season. Sure, Anderson wasn't playing well beforehand either, but when his friend was killed, Abreu wasn't playing well either, and look at him now. It was too early in the season to know if anything was concrete.

QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 12:13 AM) And if they kept him on the league minimum, they'd have paid him less, and not committed the SS role to him. This is where having a modicum of meritocracy could have saved this org both money on an underperformer, & saved time by being able to move on more easily from Anderson. (KW to RH: "s***, we can't send him down, we just gave him $25MM, & we'll all look stupid if we do, Rick!") As it stands, they'll ride Anderson and his (snicker) 64 wrc+ until they gather the courage to admit that his extension was a gift he didn't earn. Or, maybe next season, when he has gotten over the unexpected death of his best friend, he'll play better.
-
I know it's hard to promote guys since you need to send guys down in their place, but Bryant Flete, Dylan Cease, and Ian Clarkin are all guys who seem to have mastered their current levels. When do you think they'll be promoted?

Goodbye, Yolmer Sanchez experiment. Wonder if we'll trade him now. We don't need Saladino, Sanchez, and Hansen (keep in mind Leury will come back and then there's Engel/Willy Garcia both in AAA). That's overkill.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) I'm not a McMahon fan, would definitely want something better. There aren't many better prospects out there. The only better one from Colorado is Rodgers, and that would be an overpay.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:08 AM) Melky is a one dimensional player, with that one dimension being his hit tool. He is not the worst defender, but he is not good. His arm is not a liability, but it's not a strength. He has a bit of power, but he's not a 20 homer guy. He is not the slowest guy, but there's a reason he doesn't have a stolen base this year. Thus, given all of those attributes, Melky Cabrera rates as a slightly above average player, currently on pace for just under 1.0 WAR for the season. Thus, teams in contention will be looking for other alternatives in the meantime, using Melky as a fall back option. Doesn't he have a really good arm?

My guess is it's Britton/Robles

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 06:11 PM) Anderson was a top 75 prospect, he'd be in our top 15. Anderson actually got to #38 on MLB.com

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox

QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 06:08 PM) I doubt Albies + Acuna was on the table, because I'd take those two alone over the Cubs trade. They weren't. If the Braves were to offer them both for Quintana, Jose would've been a Brave the second Hahn received the offer. -

QUOTE (KrankinSox @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 12:17 PM) Where did Nightengale say this? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/c...inez/484205001/

QUOTE (daggins @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 08:02 PM) The Doolittle/Madson trade is a real headscratcher and it makes me question whether there's much of a bullpen market right now. There is a huge market, as there often is around deadline time. Oakland just dropped the ball.

QUOTE (reiks12 @ Jul 16, 2017 -> 07:55 PM) Did you not see what the Nats had to give up for TWO solid backend pieces? We arent going to get that good of a return. Robertson is not Chapman or Miller tier. Our GM, however, is 10x better than what they have over in Oakland. Nightengale's tweet, also, was reassuring.
