QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:08 PM) Balta - I think someone mentioned right now, the Sox are 1st in the division in projected WAR (or maybe it was 2015 WAR). Wait, really?

Is Frazier's defense really elite? I know it's above average, but I didn't think it was that good.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 01:04 PM) Maaaan... if you go out and get Upton and have LaRoche's rejuvenated bat in the middle of that order. You might really have something. There is a small part of me that is ecstatic about next season... there's a very small chance that everyone has years to their career averages with some of the younger guys improving, and we'd be a playoff team.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:52 PM) Melky, Avi, Saladino, LaRoche and the catcher platoon is an impressive collection of bench talent, if that, that the Sox will have killing the rallies started by Lawrie, Frazier, Abreu and Eaton (for the purposes of this argument and my sanity going forward I'll just pretend Frazier and Lawrie will be fine ballplayers). Avi and LaRoche, I'll give you as "worthless". But, IMO, Melky's RBI's/average gives him worth, as does Saladino's defense, and the catchers, given that it's by far the weakest position in baseball.

QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:45 PM) More than half the Sox lineup is still pretty worthless, would've rather seen a quantity of replacements at more positions than ransacking youthful replacements close to the majors to fill a vacancy they filled literally 2 weeks ago. Enlighten me. Which of these 5 (out of 9, to say more than half) are worthless? LF- Melky CF- Eaton RF- Garcia 3B- Frazier SS- Saladino 2B- Lawrie 1B- Abreu DH- LaRoche C- Avila/Navarro I'd only define 2 as "worthless".

QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:24 PM) The difference is money. The three from last year were FA. These are cost controlled trades. That's a big difference. Good point. Let's see if we get Upton/Yoenis.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) Hate this deal for a lot of reasons. 1. Avi - Eaton - Melky OF is all but confirmed. Another year of negative WAR from both corners really make acquiring Lawrie and Frazier pointless. The only internal option that maybe makes a splash just got traded for... 2. The next player to come to the White Sox and collapse. Frazier is about to cross the 30 barrier and look at his 2nd half splits last year. Look at how bad he was. Hard time seeing him turning it around, especially with the Sox track record of aging sluggers. 3. We gave up 3 dynamic players. Thompson is a great defender, Micah has that speed, Montas has the big fastball. These guys were all set to the contribute in different, meaningful ways and instead the Sox dealt them for the same exact kind of player we've seen every offseason since 2005. 1. No, it is not confirmed. We still may go after a FA OF. 2. This is my main concern. 3. Thompson is a great defended but I don't think he'll be any good as a hitter. Micah has speed and can hit, but his defense is abysmal. Montas is basically a Nate Jones-type reliever. I'm not upset with giving them up.

I think we'll get a 2013-like year from him but with a few more home runs.

Upton or Cespedes
Both are a bit overrated as hitters but the QO makes a difference for me.

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:18 PM) No. We have added a solid and an above average baseball player, that said, both struggle at consistently getting on base. We need to address that and Cespedes just isn't near the OBP guy. I bet the Sox have Abreu spending a lot of time with Puig on this trip to Cuba. Maybe Alexei too (as I still think we bring him back at the right price). That said, org is very high on Saladino's defense @ SS. I don't see the Sox trading for Puig after his offseason drama.

Sox address pitching and outfield holes with acquisitions of Samardzija, Robertson, and Cabrera. Sox address infield and outfield holes with acquisitions of Lawrie, Frazier, and (outfielder). Deja vu. Hope it goes better this time. At least the Cubs have basically already "won the offseason", since that usually results in a sub .500 season.

Sanchez as the utility guy looks pretty good.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 12:07 PM) I think there's too much weight being given to Todd's interleague splits by those down on this deal. You're looking at roughly half a season of at-bats over the last 4 years and trying to translate that to what we should expect...that's not fair. While he still struggled during interleague last season, he hit much better than he had the previous two which tells me that he may have become more familiar with the pitching...but again, sample size, so who knows. He's a talented player and is filling a position that has been a black hole on this team for nearly a decade. Even slashing .250/.310/.450 with ~25hr per season with decent D will serve as a HUGE upgrade for the Sox. This also allows us to fill another perpetual black hole at 2b with another solid bat in Lawrie. Fantastic moves that didn't cost us much in the way of talent. I don't know if that will happen.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:56 AM) If Melky gets his s*** together that is swoon-worthy. Melky seemed to be getting it together as the season progressed. One of the best memories this season is that big July winning streak where we'd put up 7-10 runs per game and Melky went 18-35.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 11:55 AM) Shuck can't touch Thompson defensively. And prior to last season, his bat wasn't that great either. Not true, Shuck had a great rookie year hitting-wise.

A bit surprising considering Micah had been doing lots of charity work for us this offseason. Thought that may have meant something
