QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 10:34 AM) Not if the guy actually hits for power like they are supposed to. I like High K/High BB players that hit a s***load of homers. The problem is LaRoche doesn't do that and Dunn didn't hit enough homers to justify it. I'd absolutely rather have Alvarez or Carter than LaRoche because I'm fairly confident that the latter 2 will actually hit the ball out of the ballpark. Were Dunn's 75 HRs from 2012-2013 not enough?

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 08:56 AM) The Sox haven't announced the deal yet and probably won't until he passes a physical. If* he passes it... recently more players have been failing them. Still rare, but a possibility.

Still haven't gotten tired of NHL 16.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 4, 2015 -> 08:07 AM) I would be ok with that if they took a bad contract back. John Danks anyone? Now that I think of it, John Danks could actually be an ok pitcher in the NL.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) But he only caught 37 games last year. Avila caught 43. The concern is they are both coming off limited seasons behind the plate. Well, Navarro was kinda stuck behind Russell Martin...

QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) I voted for the Korean name, but is that the right guy? I think it might be Jae-gyun Hwang.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:10 PM) I want a reason to buy mlb.com again. My team has replaced Flowers/Soto with Avila/Navarro. To me, a reasonable consumer, that is a very very bad tradeoff. Yuck. Tell me the truth people. Would you rather have Flowers/Soto or Soto/Flowers than these two newcomers? Navarro/Avila is statistically a better platoon than Flowers/Soto... You do know that catching is the weakest position in baseball, right? There are really only a handful of all-star level catchers.

QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 02:07 PM) Yunel Escobar is also reportedly on the block. Not sure what we could get him for, but Nats do need pitching. Would EJ + low-level prospects do it? He's got a team option next year at $7 million. Not too bad of a contract. He's good, but I think he's better defensively at SS than 3B. Maybe we could switch him back to SS.

Justin Turner?! I wish.

Second baseman Jose Miguel Fernandez defects
Jose Abreu replied to Special K's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Sanchez can be an elite defensive second baseman, but his bat has more potential than people here seem to think. He has shown flashes of being a decent contact hitter. -
Let's see if Robin uses this platoon correctly, by the way.

QUOTE (flavum @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 09:05 AM) The roster July 10, 2013: Lineup- De Aza, Ramirez, Rios, Dunn, Keppinger, Gillaspie, Viciedo, Beckham, Flowers Bench- Morel, Tekotte, Phegley, Wells Rotation-Sale, Axelrod, Quintana, Santiago, Danks Bullpen- Lindstrom, Thornton, Troncoso, Purcey, Castro, Jones, Reed DL- Konerko, Floyd, Peavy, Crain I'll give the Sox credit for turning over the roster in a short amount of time, but until they actually convert that to playoff appearances (or A playoff appearance), it really doesn't matter. Wow, I completely forgot about Blake Tekotte and Casper Wells.

QUOTE (Special K @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:46 AM) But from the article, it sounds like he gets on base on a ton and never strikes out. Would slot very well in the number 2 hole, wouldn't cost a draft pick, and fill a void at 2b. Could stick Melky down in the lineup at 6 or 7. This makes too much sense. Hopefully Abreu is recruiting. Probably too busy honeymooning -
The Bears are gonna have a ton of cap space, right? I'm really excited for the offseason. Von Miller could be a target.
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:34 AM) He's dropped so many balls this year. Dwayne Allen is a FA next year, I think Bears would go after him. Who needs Dwayne Allen when you have Zach Miller?
-
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 08:31 AM) Sounds like Martellus Bennett will be gone after this season. Yeah, he's apparently upset about his role in the red zone offense.

I guess Toronto fans have reasons to be upset about it. Marco Estrada: By Catcher (2015) Russell Martin is the top line, Navarro is the bottom. Anyway, given that catching is so weak across baseball, Avila/Navarro is a decent tandem. I'm a bit worried that they'll fall of a cliff, given that Navarro has had bad seasons here and there and Avila has just been bad lately, but it's better than Flowers/Soto.
-
I'm hearing Jays fans are upset because he was Estrada's personal catcher, and apparently Estrada was much worse when throwing to others.

White Sox decline to tender Tyler Flowers and Jacob Turner
Jose Abreu replied to Baron's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Dec 3, 2015 -> 07:20 AM) There is exactly one catcher that can do that in the entire Major Leagues and he is a former MVP who may go into the HOF. Last year just one catcher hit 24 HRs (McCann). His average, .232. Just four catchers hit .270+ (Posey, Pierzynski, Cervelli, Molina). Other than Posey who hit 19 HRs, the other three combined for just 20. The type of catcher you are looking for only comes around about once a decade. Maybe he's saying we need to trade for Buster Posey -
I recall him killing the Sox when he was on the Cubs.
-
He's a switch-hitter, right? I hope he can keep his offensive production up.

Jose Fernandez? Second baseman? Cuban? Ties to Abreu? Get it done Hahn!
