  1. The whole point of this rebuild is to be a playoff team. Every playoff team uses free agency to supplement the farm system and trades. Yes the big contract can turn out to be a bust but so can trading away valuable prospects for players and so can draft picks.
  2. Bad comparison. You have to look at the big picture. When we finally become relevent, Hahn will get to show his ability to sign and trade for impact players. The Red Sox and Yankees are having outstanding seasons and a couple of their FA signings are the reason i.e Martinez and Stanton. Price, to me, is a bust considering the contract but Porcello is a stud. Tanaka is 61-30 in 5 years w Yanks. Cashman may have overpaid but his performance has been solid. When we join the big boys, signing free agents and trading for impact players will be like prospects some hits some misses.
  3. Not sure that is a good comparison. Dombrowski came in from another organization. But from a rebuild standpoint, he went into a new organization in Fla. and they played in the World Series in his 5th year. He then went into Detroit and they played in the World Series in Year 5. I am not sure how you judge Hahn. He was promoted to "GM" in 2013. But he started the rebuild in 2017. So Hahn can be criticized for starting the rebuild 3-4 years too late. That is assuming he had the power to do so. But if we want to compare him from a rebuild standpoint to Dombrowski, then he should have the 2021 team in the World Series.
  4. Just a little history. Moncada in his first season in Cuba minors was a 3B but was eventually moved to 2nd. When signed by Red Sox, he was projected to play 2nd , 3B or corner outfield. Ironically, when he played A ball , the Red Sox top 3 prospects were he(#1) Devers(#2 )and Benintendi (#3). Then in AA when the Red Sox saw his progress , they moved him to 3B ( despite Devers being a year behind him) because Sandoval had flopped. Obviously he struggled at 3B. When he came to the White Sox they immediately moved him back to 2B. I don't see the White Sox moving him to 3B again since twice in his young career he was moved away from 3B. Maybe corner outfield if Madrigal forces the issue.
  5. Agree, and if he is ready next year, that is a good problem to have.
  6. I think it is too early to say that. I watch Benintendi all the time and he is a stud. He looks to be a .280 20 HR 30 SB 100 RBI guy. But Moncada has a higher ceiling. The big question is whether he makes it. At the time of the trade, Benintendi 's value was rising and Moncada's was falling after their showing during the pennant race. I think for Sale, Boston would have done either but Benintendi was in a position they needed more than an infielder so the trade probably worked better for them than if they kept Moncada. In Fenway, I think Moncada would have another 4-5 HR this year.
  7. Just me, but I don't think Stephens will be up next year. I think younger guys will pass him based on his showing in Charlotte.
  8. That sounds great but what do you base that on? Maybe if he drops swith-hitting. He is actually striking out at a slightly hgiher % this year compared to last. I would not count on 3B. It was pretty bad when the Red Sox tried it. Maybe if he has to move, he could try corner outfield.
  9. I think the problem is some fans thought the #1 prospect would turn out to be an automatic star player. That is not a fair assumption. The Robinson Cano comparisons added to the problem. We should hope he becomes a solid everyday player on a good team which we also hope Anderson will be. That is not to say that either or both won't become stars.
  10. I agree with a young 23 year old having mental lapses. Not sure what you mean by a ton of scrutiny. I posted yesterday that he is lucky he is on a bad team where there is limited pressure, If he was on a team fighting for the playoffs like LA, NY Boston, Cubs Brewers etc there would be a ton of pressure. Moncada played under pressure when he was called up by Boston 2 years ago and it did not go well. If he was on a pennant contender he would have to be a platoon player due to his RH problems. That would be instant pressure.
  11. Every GM makes a trade that looks bad in hindsight. The obsession w Tatis is strange. Living in New England,I remember the constant moaning that the Red Sox traded a young Jeff Bagwell to Astros. But at least Bagwell achieved something. Tatis is just a prospect.
  12. For the poster who took a shot at Sebring, it is actually a nice town in central Florida.
  13. Actually the strikeouts are the key. If he is striking out 1 out of 3 ABS, as he reduces the strikeouts his across the board numbers will improve just by putting the ball in play. Hopefully the switch-hitting ends soon and that could have a positive impact on the strikeouts.
  14. Moncada is lucky he is on a bad team. At least he doesn't have the pressure of playing in important games. If he was on a good team battling for a playoff spot, he would most likely end up a platoon player until he figures out lefties or just bats LH.
  15. How did you reach that conclusion? I think Eloy has the natural talent regardless of the coaching staff. If the coaches in Birmingham and Charlotte get credit for Eloy, do they lose it for Jacob May? I think Hahn has a timeline for Eloy and we will just have to wait for his arrival.
  16. Saw some of their series this weekend against Pawtucket and he is ready to move up. Now maybe the team will want to hold back for control reasons but he is wearing out AAA pitching.
  17. Pitch better than he did last night. He and Fulmer struggled in the 7/8th w walks( Fulmer) and hits (Bummer) against the PawSox. Bummer did have a nice pickoff to his credit.
  18. Is he out of options? If both sided are serious about his pitching, why not send him back to AAA and let him pitch down there and call up a reliever from Charlotte
  19. I watched Charlotte last night. Eloy does look ready but I trust Hahn to make the right decision. Stephens last night was awful.
  20. I think it will play out. Other than Rodon, all the rest are still prospects and some percentage of prospects don't make it. We have seen Covey-Lopez and Giolito all show rollercoaster efforts this season. I just hope those 3 are still in the hunt for rotation slots come spring training and progress further next year.
  21. I would doubt the Red Sox would want Yolmer. They have Holt) and Nunez filling in for Pedroia. I do think they would want Soria although I think they would prefer a lefty
  22. I can see them going to T-ball and eliminating balls and strikes all together.
  23. With Britton to NY, most likely Houston/Boston will counter with some bullpen addition.
  24. I don't think the poster was. I think his point was 24 is kind of young to give up on him as a starter. Most posters feel Moncada at 23 should be allowed to continue at his current pace. For example, should the Sox tell Moncada to only bat LF since he has had major struggles from the right side like Fulmer did as a starter. I think that is valid. But the good thing in all this, is Fulmer seems sold on this so that is certainly a positive.
  25. Heard Steve Lyons talking last week about the significance of batting .300 He said the advent of all the new metrics are big w fans and the media. But he said in the clubhouse, players still are concerned about their batting average.
