  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:43 AM) That's why I think the deal will involve Rameirez if it's done. The A's need a shortstop this season. They have top SS prospects. If ramirez was part of the deal I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't end up trading him down the road.
  5. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 10:03 AM) The White Sox will know before the trade whether they can lock him up or not. Samardzija has all kinds of links to Chicago which I am sure the White Sox are aware of. I think in the end he hated being part of a rebuild at Wrigely and that was as big a reason as any for not signing long term. Agree
  6. Some who've spoken with Oakland re: Samardzija don't expect the A's to grant a negotiating window to any interested team. https://twitter.com/Buster_ESPN/status/541978259609505794
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 08:49 AM) But of course, that makes no sense for the White Sox, even if we get back a "High level prospect" in return, because we're trading for a "win now" pitcher on a 1 year deal and then leaving ourselves with a gaping hole at shortstop with literally no one ready to fill it. No one can tell me that having either Semien, Sanchez, Tim Anderson, or Saladino as our #1 starting shortstop in ST next year looks like a competitive, could win the central division roster. Ditto any "SS Prospect" Beane is willing to give up - if he had one ready he wouldn't trade or Alexei. That would leave the White Sox deciding whether to spend money on Jed Lowrie, Stephen Drew, or Asdrubal Cabrera to fill that SS hole. In other words, we'd commit $10 mil next year to JS, another $5-$10 mil next year to a veteran shortstop, we'd upgrade the rotation but we'd downgrade the offense and the defense while giving up a year of team control for the key piece. That could make sense for an 87 win team again, but we're right back into "Why are we doing this" territory to me without an unreasonable, unexpected, long-term discount on the pitcher. Stephen drew is the only one still viewed as a ss. Jed Lowrie and Asdrubal Cabrera are viewed as second baseman more now.

  10. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:57 AM) I feel a bullpen is something you spend excess money on, not primary money. But again if you want to compete and had as bad of a bullpen as the sox do then you have to spend either money or trades to fix it. But this is telling if they are serious in Robertson then they might have more money to play with then thought of and really should make for a exciting winter meetings and rest of off season.
  11. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Dec 8, 2014 -> 12:45 AM) Ugh. I know our bullpen sucked last year, but I hate giving big money to relievers, especially on anything over 2 years. Robertson is a fantastic pitcher, and has been for quite a few years, so I wouldn't worry about him busting like I would with Duke, but Duke is only making $5M a season, which isn't a crippling amount. I would hate to see us pay a reliever $12M+ a year. That's insane to me. If the sox are true on competing then they need a good closer. Hahn had said something about going without a set closer by committee but I don't think the sox have enough dominant pitchers to do that so signing a set one is might be the only way.
  12. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) I'm like 90% sure Hanrahan already signed with a team. Also add Beachy to your list Hanrahan signed back with Detroit on a minor league deal

  15. @Buster_ESPN reported Toronto interest in Williams . Told this goes back 4-6 weeks ago . https://twitter.com/MLBBruceLevine/status/541669135277490176 I think this is just old news that buster is bringing up. Also remember the dodgers were after williams too probably around the same time ish

Ken Williams when asked about his next step: “I’m focused on helping the White Sox win another championship.” https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/541648258804621314 Williams on whether he would resign from #WhiteSox: “I’ve considered all options as anyone would given the set of circumstances.” https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/541648263300915201 Again, sources say that #WhiteSox are balking at granting Williams permission to speak to #BlueJays about becoming president/CEO. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/541648273404985344
  18. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Dec 7, 2014 -> 10:57 AM) Sources: #WhiteSox balking at giving permission executive VP Ken Williams to speak to #BlueJays about becoming president/CEO… Williams, in turn, is considering resigning. Promotion to president/CEO is a major step, just as it would be for #Orioles’ Duquette. https://twitter.com/Ken_Rosenthal/status/541636720471470080
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) Well the article said he wants to be in New York, but with that said, I would love to have him. Issue is now since miller is off the board he's probably going to get alot more attention. Tho if the sox get him it would hopefully strength the left side of the pen even more. Good thing is his cost might be a bit lower after last yr.

  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) No one has ever said the Sox are guaranteed to win or lose with or without Alexei Ramirez. However, the White Sox insistence on not playing Semien and Sanchez at SS indicates that they aren't comfortable with them at the position. Saladino is recovering from Tommy John surgery and frankly the idea of Saladino is frightening. The Sox SHOULD explore a trade of Alexei Ramirez. I do not believe they should trade him for Jeff Samardzija in any fashion. Sox weren't insistent of not letting semien or sanchez play ss. Alot of Semiens time was at second cause Beckham was injured by the beginning of the year. Then when he came back up he played second again along with sanchez cause backham was traded. Also saw time at 3rd. Alexei playing 158 games at shortstop doesn't allow for anyone else to play there. That means the sox would have had to bench alexei to try them out there and why would they do that. Why is saladino frightening. Hahn spoke highly of him when he got injured and said would have been pushing up to the majors if it wasn't for the injury. Said he showed alot more offense this year and has been showing he can play more then one position.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 11:06 AM) The Cubs seem to have just as good of a shot at competing in the next 6 seasons as the White Sox, if not better. Why would he give a discount to the White Sox that he did not give to the Cubs? I seriously don't believe the cubs can contend for a couple more years. There prospects are so raw in major league experience wise that they need to be in the big leagues at least a full year to know what they got. They still can't get big free agents to sign yet. Who says anything about trying to get a discount from samardzija to sign. Cubs tried to go low to trying to get him to sign.
  23. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 10:55 AM) Why would the White Sox trade Alexei for Samardzija? That diminishes a lot of what the Sox are trying to do right now, and then they don't have a SS. And why would the A's trade Samardzija for Arruebarruena? He was absolutely terrible in the minors last year and is not a good bet. I just don't see any scenario that makes sense where the White Sox will trade Ramirez. That's not a bad thing. They should explore it, but they need to be asking for a lot and I just don't see it happening. How do you know the sox don't a shortstop besides alexei. How much have you seen semien or sanchez or even saladino play there to no even include them in the conversation. People are acting like if alexei was off the team and the Sox would get value in return then they couldn't compete. Alexei has value but not to to the point of saying we are guaranteed to win with him or without him we are guaranteed to lose.
  24. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 10:45 AM) Then, instead of giving up value, why don't the Sox wait until next year to sign him.?Swapping out Alexei for him doesn't make the White Sox any better in 2015 IMO. Because this is probably the only chance the sox have at really getting him. Next year he's a free agent and will be attached to probably a draft pick, another year older, and will have to bid against other teams.
  25. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 5, 2014 -> 10:41 AM) Who cares what he wants to do if it's not worth any money to him? If coming back home is worth $25 million off his contract to him, ok then we can talk. It wasn't worth that much to him when the Cubs made him a ~$75 million offer well before he hit FA, why do we have any reason to think it's worth that much to him now? Probably cause this is his last contract and staying for a team like the cubs isn't getting him anywhere. He's only getting money out of it with probably not competing anytime soon.
