Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (steveno89 @ Apr 4, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Archer is not likely to be traded unless for a massive haul. Tampa would have to enter full rebuild in order for that to happen and I just don't see it right now. Grienke/Verlander are owed a ton of money, making it tough(er) to get a deal done without the seller eating a huge chunk of the contract Quintana is a very attractive piece because the contract is reasonable, and he's in his prime I don't know, maybe I see it differently but do agree Q is a very attractive piece. If Archer rebounds and the Rays struggle, I think Archer goes on the market and gives buyers a very good alternative to Q. The Sox need the Rays to compete so they keep their pitchers off the trade market. As for Verlander, similar to Archer and Rays, the Sox need Detroit to compete to keep Verlander off the market. Verlander's age and contract make him less valuable but if Detroit includes money in a Verlander trade, he becomes rather attractive. Verlander won't cost the prospects that Q and Archer would which combined with Detroit eating money makes Verlander a good alternative. An alternative that I think Cashman and the Yanks would like. I agree ya on Grienke, that dude is going nowhere.

Which of these (bad) options would you bat lead off?
I'd give it to May and see what his speed and switch hitting can do at the top of the order. The kid wasn't expected to make the 25 man roster and yet here he is so f*** it, throw him in the #1 hole.

2017 White Sox prediction thread
Went with 68-71 wins. They could be worse but that depends on how long it takes to trade Q, Frazier, Melky, Robertson and possibly Jones. If the Sox can move these guys by the deadline, the second half will be pretty ugly in the loss column. I'm not cheering for losses and I will watch the games with hopes of the Sox winning, but I do accept that losing is a part of rebuilding so cheering for losses feels kind of redundant. Losses will happen but I will still cheer for them to win.

POSTPONED: Opening Day Game Thread 2017
About time. I like the Sox chances against Verlander so I'm guessing Sox win 3-2. Q gets the win which is followed by five straight no decisions.

Lol, I do like Ken's sense of humor. The Q rumors are going to be crazy this summer.

Updated teams interested in Q
Funny thing about the Astros and their fans is that Martes/Tucker is slightly less than Giolito/Lopez from the Eaton trade. Martes and Tucker is a reasonable starting point.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 10:29 PM) It's possible for him to get a Sale return. But that would require a)no regression and b)limited supply of pitchers in July. I think those factors are far more likely to go against the Sox than move in the Sox favor. What indications are there that point towards a regression from Q? His track record is solid and shows no signs of regressing so there's no reason for me to think he will. In fact, Q looks better than ever. As for pitching. How many pitchers of Q's caliper and team friendly contract are out there? Maybe Archer but he needs to show he can rebound from last year before he can be considered in the same class as Q. I still believe that waiting is the right call and that somebody will blink but if for some reason teams won't meet the asking price for Q, then I have no problem watching him pitch for the Sox over the next four years.

Rays acquire Bourjos
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:15 PM) Liriano can't play CF. Leury is backup CF. Doesn't change much. Bench of: Sanchez, Leury, Soto, and Asche IMO. Lol, the Sox will have the lightest hitting OF in the majors. Ha ha, Frazier will probably supply more power than all three starting outfielders. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 11:17 PM) Had no idea that Bourjos supported LaRoche Maybe Bourjos is a Duck Dynasty fan too?

Would a Bourjos trade mean May and Liriano share CF?

Lucas Giolito
QUOTE (shipps @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 04:20 PM) One of the more impressive things I've heard from the Sox beat is that Giolito is an extremely mature dude especially for his age. This makes me confident that whatever hurdles that he is going to face he will handle it like a boss. Well said. Giolito has issues to work on but I think it's important to remember he is only 22 so even if he takes another year or two to finish developing, so be it. No rush while in rebuild mode. I do think the velo drop is something to keep an eye on but it's just ST. If the velo is still low come mid summer, then I'll be concerned. Hopefully it's just his arm needing more time to stretch out.

Updated teams interested in Q
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 27, 2017 -> 04:45 PM) Funny thing is if WBC version of Q is here from the get go, he'd command an equal or more Sale package at the deadline if a starter goes down. Yep, it's a gamble, but one worth taking. All the Sox need is for Q to be Q and the return will be bountiful enough but if he can get off to a career year kind of start, whoaaa mama! If that happens, look out for the arm-chair GM's that will say the Sox traded Sale too soon.

Lucas Giolito
Quick question. WTF does JR's ownership and the "conspiracy" rebuild have to do with Lucas Giolito's FB velocity drop and CB spin rate? I swear some folks complain for the sake of complaining and if there was nothing to complain about, they would complain about that too. Lighten up Sox fans and be glad baseball is back after a long winter.

Q on track to start opening day
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 03:23 PM) Isn't that kind of irrelevant since there has been a ton of turnover on the roster? The only significant turnover on the Sox offense is Eaton. The Sox still have Abreu, Frazier, Melky, Soto and Avi that are familiar with Verlander.

Q on track to start opening day
QUOTE (ChiSoxFanMike @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) Can't wait to be there Opening Day. Q vs. Verlander baby. Should be a lot of fun. IIRC, the Sox have hit Verlander in the past so the Sox might start the season 1-0. It could be the only time we see them above .500 so at least they would be division leaders if only for a day.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (reiks12 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 02:59 PM) So hes a top 5 prospect because he got hot during the afl? His stats in A ball are pedestrian Pedestrian for a bat coming out of the college draft at 21 years old but not for a 19 year old kid playing his first full season at A+ ball. I don't know the numbers for sure but I can't imagine there being too many 19 year olds playing A+ ball. There's alot of talent and projection in Torres.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 01:35 PM) I think you guys are both missing the mocking going on here. Bingo. I was just poking fun at the Yankee A ball prospects being Schmucks yet the headliner in a trade would have to be Torres, an A ball player. Just found it to be humorous is all.

White Sox Scout Yankees for Potential Q Trade
QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Mar 20, 2017 -> 07:26 AM) Even if any of these things are true, neither of the repeatedly injured Rutherford, nor the 18 IP-in-A+ Kaprelian, nor Mateo have proven enough to be the centerpiece to a trade for Q, full stop. All three may have substantial upside, as you claim. But at the same time, all three are far enough away from The Show, or have significant flaws as well. The Prospect Industrial Complex routinely over rates prospects, and history has shown that most of them fail. So, if you're trading away a PROVEN, TOR, LHP, @ that contract for a pile of A-ball schmucks, you're doing it wrong. The equation remains Torres ++ is what the Yankees have to give up. No Torres = No Q. Hell, they got Torres for a few months of a reliever. A GREAT reliever (with off the field issues, BTW ), but still "just" a reliever. This fandom has to be patient, rather than pining for the quick trade of the best pitching asset on the market for a pile of A-ball schmucks that haven't proven anything. Getting less than full value for Q will set this franchise back for YEARS, so better to wait for another club to become desperate. Torres has yet to play above A ball. Torres = schmuck. Just sayin'...
