  1. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 24, 2017 -> 11:44 PM) Anybody surprised as hell about what Tim Tebow is doing in High A? Through 84 ABs: .310 AVG, .402 OBP, .938 OPS, 4 HR, 15 RBI, 10 BB, 18 SO I know they aren't great numbers but for a guy who hasn't played in 10+ years before this it is pretty amazing what he is doing. It is a bit impressive, especially considering how bad he was in Low-A. If he can keep that up in AA/AAA, then I'll be genuinely impressed, and It'll pretty much all but guarantee he'll see the majors in September. I heard he's awful defensively, though. I feel dirty saying it, but I hope it happens.
  2. I'm not worried about Rodon at all. He's young and has nasty stuff. As others have said, he's just getting back and this is basically spring training for him. At worst he'll be a #3 IMO.
  3. Ok, I'm starting to think he might benefit from some more time in AAA. He looks totally clueless at the plate and it's not like he's making up for it in the field.
  4. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:39 PM) All that does is make you look like a goon. If you take a liner to the face, that monstrosity won't help you.
  5. QUOTE (oldsox @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:36 PM) Years ago, I criticized Kenny for trading Holmberg to D-backs; I take it all back. Tbf, Holmberg has been pretty solid up until this game.
  6. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 07:40 PM) I think he has value to a team. He's (capable) of playing LF or RF, is a switch hitter, has good contact skills, and is a good clubhouse presence. I don't know why a contender wouldn't want him.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 06:35 PM) Doing a great job of not chasing pitches since he's been up. Also, holy cow is Yolmer's average plummeting. Remember when some thought he would push Moncada off 2nd? It seems like, for the most part, that he's still been making good contact, just unlucky that they've been going to defenders. However, some leveling off was to be expected, he wasn't going to hit .300 all year, but .270-.280 seems reasonable for him.
  8. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 06:27 PM) I guess it doesn't hurt for Yolmer to get 3B reps, but I'd much rather see him at SS and Saladino at 3B instead of the other way around. Agreed.
  9. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 05:22 PM) Delmonico played 1b yesterday...has he done that a lot? He's played 122 games at 1B in his career, according to Baseball Reference.
  10. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 04:55 PM) That doesn't really make sense considering he is the starting 1b and not the DH. His bat would be in the lineup anyway I remember Ventura talking about it. I think it may have been when we had LaRoche, as a way of getting them both in the lineup when no DH vs NL teams. Edit: Here, http://www.csnchicago.com/chicago-white-so...some-third-base
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 04:44 PM) Unless he was just having fun, maybe Boston asked if he could? They considered that for him before the WSox signed him I know there were talks in previous seasons of playing Abreu at 3B in interleague games to get his bat in the lineup, but it never happened. I'd like to see it as a morbid curiosity in a rebuilding season, but I doubt he'd be even below average there.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:23 AM) I like to imagine that Abreu was absolutely laying into the front office and Russo is just translating it into the company line. Kinda feel bad for Saladino, as he's probably not going to be here when the rebuild pays off.
  13. His defense is concerning, but I have more faith in him becoming an average defender at SS than him ever learning how to work the count and draw a walk. I'm really concerned about his development, tbh. At least he's become a god on my OOTP save.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 04:39 PM) Abreu taking reps at 3rd https://mobile.twitter.com/scottmerkin/stat...871475784167424 Why? We have like five guys who can play 3B.
  15. QUOTE (BamaDoc @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 11:16 PM) Anyone know anything about him. I know he unretired earlier this year. In A ball,22yrs old. Any idea what kind of prospect he is considered ? pretty nice stats Your username is BamaDoc and Foster's MiLB profile says he went to Alabama. Do you know anything about his stuff/repertoire, perhaps from watching him in college? His stats are good, but it's a small sample size and I don't know anything about him. Considering he was a late round pick, I doubt there's much info on him out there.
  16. QUOTE (southside guru @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 03:34 PM) The Kanny kids can play SS! Both Massey and Roman are capable...as much as Flete and Yrizzari are. Their K rates are horrendous, however! Seriously? I don't think Massey or Roman have ML ceilings. If those are the two you use as a response to "we have a hole at SS", then that pretty much confirms that indeed we do. Massey is 25, was a 26th round pick and is currently in Low-A not exactly tearing it up. He looks like a definite org guy to me. Roman is probably more of a fringey prospect, considering he's age appropriate for level (22 in Low-A) and was drafted in the 12th round. He seems to be doing okay in Kanny, but nothing crazy. While hardly top prospects, the first SS that come to mind for me are: Amado Nunez (long ways off), Johan Cruz (not doing well in W-S), Danny Mendick (has been playing more 2B than SS this year), Luis Curbelo (long ways off, might not stick at SS), Eddy Alvarez (probably AAAA/utility type) and Jake Peter (utility, not pure SS). Not a great bunch, but a couple lottery ticket types and some utility guys. It'd definitely be nicer to have more depth at SS system wide.
  17. Not a shock, those are the two toughest positions to fill.
  18. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 11:48 AM) The IF is where the Sox still lack depth. Moncado is a stud to be at 2nd, and TA should continue develop at SS, but there is zero depth behind either. Moncado could play 3rd, but the lack of depth at 2nd means that's where I see him going. So while the rebuild looks good, there is no depth up the middle period. Any one of these guys could get injured or not pan out so moving on adding something up the middle wouldn't hurt. Well, they have Sanchez, Leury, Saladino and Hanson at 2B behind Moncada. That's pretty good depth IMO, plus there's utility types in the high minors like Jake Peter and Eddy Alvarez. I think the lack of depth at SS and 3B is more alarming than 2B. As far as Moncada, he'll obviously be a stud with the bat, but defensively he profiles as average at 2B. I don't think Anderson will stick at SS longterm, but hopefully I'm wrong. An infield consisting of three below average defenders (1B Abreu/Burger/Sheets, 3B Burger/Davidson and SS Anderson) and one average defender (2B Moncada) doesn't seem like a winning formula to me, despite their bats.
  19. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 10:55 AM) 2018 team could be sneaky good, especially if the Sox keep Avi (though personally I'd rather trade him). Infield of Narvaez, Abreu, Moncada, Anderson and Delmonico and Yolmer as a utilityman with a kinda patchwork OF of Polo/Leury(probably a FA tbh)/Avi. And there will be midseason reinforcements, Jimenez is closer than his level indicates. A Rodon/Giolito/Lopez rotation is risky, but the upside there is stratospheric. Not to mention the absolute tidal wave of arms they have coming up behind them. I don't think they are going to be terrible for very long, this is an org designed for a quick turnaround that builds on itself with a steady amount of call ups between today (Moncada!) and Opening Day 2020. I don't think Delmonico will be able to play 3B at the ML level or that Polo will be in the majors next year. Aside from that, I agree with your post.
  20. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Shortstop. SS and 3B, IMO. I don't think Anderson will be able to stick at SS long term and will eventually be moved to CF, I view Davidson as more of a DH than an everyday 3B and I think Burger will end up at 1B/DH by the time he reaches the majors. Sanchez could be average at SS and Moncada would be fine at 3B if he had to move for whatever reason (or CF), but aside from that, there's not many internal options at those positions. Obviously, that can and likely will change between now and 2019-20.
  21. Nelson Acosta was an under the radar guy I had my eye on after he put up good numbers in the DSL for a few years. Seemingly too advanced for that league and turning 20 in August, I assumed he'd be assigned to a stateside rookie affiliate this season. However, he's repeating the DSL for the fourth straight year and the wheels seem to have come off, as he now has an ERA over 9, a WHIP over 2 and is allowing over 10 walks per 9. My point is, it's difficult to "stat scout" these guys when there's little to nothing else to go off, like actual scouting reports.
  22. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 11:48 PM) Goodbye, Yolmer Sanchez experiment. Wonder if we'll trade him now. We don't need Saladino, Sanchez, and Hansen (keep in mind Leury will come back and then there's Engel/Willy Garcia both in AAA). That's overkill. Move Sanchez to SS and Anderson to CF. 2B Moncada, 3B Davidson, SS Sanchez and CF Anderson. DH can rotate and Leury can be the utility guy once he's healthy. Saladino and Hanson don't factor into the future, they can be sent down, traded, DFAed, etc. at this point.
  23. Now Hawk is slobbering on Avi's knob, defending his defense. Oh lord...
  24. Meanwhile Lincecum, who we were rumored to be after before we traded for Shields, just had his first start and did really well. Wow...
  25. This is like a car crash. You can't help but watch.
