  1. so they are both unsigned? I assume Mackowiak is our primary utility outfielder. Who is going to be the fifth outfielder? Borchard? Owens? Any other nominees out there?
  2. Been out of the loop for a bit. Just wondering if either of these guys has signed with another team -- or if the Sox are chatting with either one of them? would think somebody would take a look at willie because of his age, speed and versatility.
  3. Coop will be there. Somebody can ask him. I remember hearing about the sore arm last fall. Buehrle has thrown lots of innings over the last five years. He's not a huge guy. I have concerns about normal wear and tear. Maybe that is why we have six starters.
  4. Bobby Howry had his chance to step forward with the Sox in 2000. He didn't. I don't remember him doing Dick Tracy during the playoffs. He's been hurt. Now he's had one good year as a setup guy. He's no Neal Cotts. Period.
  5. Randy Johnson is closer to 50, not 30. His decline will continue. Mussina has arm problems every year and has yet to justify his $17 million contract. Aaron Small is bloody unlikely to go 10-0 again. Pavano might bounce back. Wright might bounce back. Odds are, though, that both of them will not bounce back. Chacon is a fourth or fifth starter. The Korean kid is OK, but he'd be no better than the fifth man on the Sox staff. And I'm not convinced Farnsworth will be a significant upgrade on Gordon. Plus, one of these years Marino Rivera HAS to hit the wall. Dude has thrown major, major innings for eight or nine years. I'm more worried about the Tribe and the Angels and maybe even the Twinkies.
  6. tried mlbsorry20 a few days ago and it said it had expired.
  7. With the signing of Damon by the Yankees, I remembered how important Pods was to the Sox in the first half of the season. When he was getting on base and stealing at a high success rate, it made a huge difference to the offense and the mindset. Obviously, the Sox won without that over the last 2 1/2 months. But a healthy Pods will make the season bright. Has anybody heard any news about how he is doing and whether the leg problems are a thing of the past?
  8. Bradford, T. Miller and Fogg intrigue me. byrnes as a backup outfielder would be nice, but probably too pricey I've got a feeling Borchard is going to be one of the backup outfielders because KW likes him, we've still got 5 million invested in him and he has some pop.
  9. Rupe. Webster. Majewski. Haigwood. Gonzalez. Young. Morse. Reed. others I can't remember. Sooner or later, we're going to get burned really badly on one of these deals. it's inevitable. But if the goal is to spend money to stay on top with solid players, I'm conflicted about trading the youngters because most of them DO NOT pan out. But of this group, I gotta figure that one or two of them are going to be all-stars. Looking at all the outfield deals we have made, I have to figure that they truly believe Brian Anderson will be a solid, solid player. Otherwise, it makes no sense to deal Rowand, Reed and Chris Young. Thoughts?
  10. They probably gave a lot of the lowest numbers to members of the team and PR staff as keepsakes. just a guess
  11. 171 -- and I thought I had connections. wonder how many they made? Who got the HIGHEST number?
  12. i'm certain there's no way he can be as wonderful as DJ
  13. he'll stay healthy because he keeps himself in such great shape.
  14. what kind of fielder is he? Can he cover the gaps? Arm?
  15. i loved ARow. homegrown Sox player. ultimate grinder. play anywhere. hit anywhere in lineup. steal a base. make throws. run into walls. I don't like this trade. tired of dealing for washed-up Indians
  16. charlie has the perfect radio face. And he's too Yankees-Red Sawx oriented for me. give me somebody who knows, likes -- and respects -- the AL Central.
  17. how do you get these from the computer to your phone> somebody please help the techno impaired.
  18. thank you for the game three swing against the astros. Hope he doesn't remember what everybody was saying about him after the 1-2-3 double play against the Tigers in the 8th inning of the game during the last week of the season. trust in Kenny Williams to find somebody better.
  19. When in Bobby Jenks Day?
  20. wishin, dreamin, hopin if you think Rogowski could help next year. His numbers suggest he can command the strike zone, but he's got little pop, especially for a corner infielder. He's Mike Squires -- maybe. YOu're asking for big trouble to count on a guy who has never had a single at bat higher than AA ball.
  21. johnny Damon will be in the Bronx next season he wants fame more than he wants to win again
  22. and this board rocks. got me through august and September. then the boyz did the rest.
  23. for everybody who was there from the 1-0 game that started the season through the 1-0 game that ended the season HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH nothing like a sox fan. never has been. never will be.
  24. one insurance run, please.
