  1. we've got one more year of Garland and two with Buehrle. hate to see either guy leave -- but I'm not holding my breath they will be around. As for Paulie, he won't be back. they'll use Gload or Dye for a year. Rogowski still might make it. Can't see us using 15 percent of our payroll on a first baseman.
  2. jr wanted a change in the booth. Demographically Wimpy and Hawk appealed to similar folks. DJ was supposed to change that dynamic, but he brings precious little to the table. no catchy phrases. Obvious insights. afraid to be critical most of the time. turn off the TV and listen to the radio.
  3. this is his fourth season in Triple A and now he's having ONE decent month. If he has any trade value, now is the time to move him. Anderson, Sweeney, Young, Owens, Collaro and others are much better prospects.
  4. aj is so much better than Sandy, Ben Davis, Olivo, Josh Paul, Mark Johnson and the others we have suffered through is recent years. always thought he called a great game against us when he was with the twins. hope he stays around for many years.
  5. willie is still young/ he needs to be getting at bats somewhere. rather see the sox pick up a veteran utility infielder. some should be available in the next few weeks at a reasonable price.
  6. ignore the criticism and ignore the praise. just go to Cleveland and put some air back in the tires.
  7. any idea when Garland is scheduled to appear?
  8. who's carl crawford?
  9. let's win the division easily first
  10. Stanton ain't got much left in the tank, but Kevin Walker doesn't even have a tank. Take a look. Dude has pitched in post-season. He could help. Saw all I needed to see from Walker against Arizona.
  11. What counts is October, not what the fools say on ESPN. If it ain't the Yankees or Red Sox, it doesn't happen.
  12. percentages say the Sox are overdue to play better in Oakland. ride the wave.
  13. only way I can translate this is the Sox must really love Young. His stax don't appear to justify this, compared to Anderson or Owens. I know he is a five-tool guy, but until he cuts back on his strikeouts he's on a similar development track to Borchard, another future star.
  14. Too bad. gotta be killing Wills to miss this and watch Travis Harper give up 13 runs in the 8th inning. Wills is missed.
  15. Been a Sox fan for more years than I'm ready to admit. All I can say at this point to everybody is enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. Don't know where this season will end up, but the ride so far has been truly remarkable.
  16. good move for BMac. pick your spots and let him build his confidence back. better than letting him get clubbed game after game
  17. I agree. Under the radar. Let's not deviate from that
  18. still think they have to figure out what to do with Vizcaino. He should be better than he has pitched for the last six weeks. And he hasn't been overused.
  19. nice win, despite the middle of the game angst. shingo contributed Cotts looked good stress free ninth from Hermie and plenty of runs. now it's up to Garland
  20. Think Cotts would have given up that double to Stairs. I don't blame BMac. I blame Ozzie. Bullpen management is his weakest attribute.
  21. With Garland and Buehrlle pitching the next two games, should not have to go to the pen until the 7th or 8tth. Cotts is young and rested. he should be able to give them a couple of innings.
  22. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 02:16 AM) Still wish that Cotts would have been brought in to face Stairs. My reason is this: McCarthy obviously had no command of anything but his fastball. Stairs is a very dangerous fastball hitter, especially to the opposite field. I was very disappointed that AJP decided to call for an outside fastball. McCarthy's best chance at getting Stairs out was to jam him with an inside fastball with some movement. As for Viz, if he's going to throw fastballs to righties, he needs to get it inside. With Viz throwing so many sliders, you can tell that hitters are sitting on the outside pitch. An outside fastball just ends up being meat. YOU ARE EXACTLY RIGHT. He was trying to get a win for McCarthy. That should be secondary to winning the freakin game.
  23. Can't have two guys in the pen that can't be trusted. Something has to be done with either Viz or Shingo. And Baj has earned the right for another chance.
  24. Why is this guy still pitching? the bullpen is rested.
