The OFFICIAL Opening Day GAME THREAD!
best wishes to all for a great season. I'm at the Final Four, but it's the number two sporting event in america today strap it down

Besides the Sox who is your favorite MLB team
The Charlotte Knights, Birmingham Barons, Winston-Salem Warthogs and Kannapolis Intimidators. And the Cincinnati Reds as the season begins because they're playing The Team Whose Name I Refuse to Type

minor league assignments
I've got a couple of questions: What is the idea behind making Munox a starter? Isn't he a small guy who projected as a great situational reliever to strike out a Koeskie, Jacque Jones, Aaron Guiel or Bobby Higginson? Who made that call? And are they thinking about Wyatt Allen as a closer or middle reliever? His arm is good, but his mechanics and control are troublesome.

Camp under Ozzie
I wish Ozzie had Bartolo and Flash (who was lights out with Yankees in spring training). can live without Robbie and the others. give Ozzie more veteran arms and we'd be in business.
-
Should Uribe or Willie be a second
we need: somebody who can run at the top of the order and a left-handed stick. all I'm saying, is giving Willie his chance

Today's game
Who's pitching for the mighty Royals?
-
Today's game
don't forget to throw in Sean Lowe!!!! is today's game on the radio?
-
Dransfeldt was assigned to the minors:
i hope Ozzie uses those guys early and keeps them sharp and involved. always thought one of Manuel's biggest weaknesses as a manager was to rely on 7 or 8 pitchers and let three or four guys lose their edge in the pen.

Mike Jackson and Chris Singleton?
singleton as a backup outfielder/defensive late innings guy and left-handed pinch hitter is fine with me. let Reed and Borchard play every day at Charlotte in April and May. If one of them really rakes, you can bring them up and cut Singleton loose

Interesting Trade Idea from Rosenthal.
no way benson gets hurt every 20 seconds. he's never really dominated Stewart and something else. wouldn't give up on Rauch yet

Twins Dissing White Sox
The Twins have earned the right to talk smack. They've won the division in back to back years. Much rather see the Sox keep their traps shut (are you listening Jose?) and just play the game on the field. Nobody has any reason to talk until October.

Sox Top 30 Prospects
yes we do have wilder. but seems as if the Brewers are always picking in the top five. big difference.

Sox Top 30 Prospects
I can't fathom how Reed could be as low as number 25. that's silly. I like BA, but their fasicination with 'tools' and draft position is ridiculous. This kid can hit -- and has proven it for two years. I'll leave you with this thought: Three years ago this was Baseball American's Elite Eight in alphabetical order Ryan Anderson, Seattle -- injured and will never make it. Sean Burroughs, San Diego -- solid, but still questions about his power. Josh Beckett, Florida -- he'll be getting his ring on opening day Josh Hamilton, Tampa -- just ain't happenin. Corey Patterson, Can't Say It -- good, but still Ks too much Jon Rauch, White Sox -- do or die time is here. C.C. Sabathia -- can be dominating, but it would be nice if he got in shape Ben Sheets -- another nice pitcher, but hardly a proven No. 1 starter. Just a reminder on prospect mania

All sports talk radio in Chicago has been about:
the best news is that the Cubs better win because with all this talent, a genius manager and an unlimited checkbook, they go ZERO excuses.
-
John Henry wants a cap, too...
Yes, but what do commisioner Donald Fehr and his deputy Scott Boras want? that is what counts. don't forget that.

ESPN RADIO REPORTS
yep it's in the latest edition with A Rod on the cover. no source. no attribution. probably another Bob Nightengale special. He blew Wally Backman out of the Sox organization without identifying his source. Maybe Frankie will be next. But I have to say the Dodgers must be on crack if they plan to play Frank at 1b for 130 games. Please.

Is it harder
Being a White Sox fan is a tougher assignment. Mets won the series in 1969 and 1986 and also made it in 1973. They spend money, often unwisely. But they spend on Piazza, Vaughn, Alomar, Camerson, Glavine and on and on and on. They know they're second banana in their home town, but they don't always simply throw up their hands and say 'What can we do about it?" And with the Mets, you can understand being Number two because the Yankees get the job done. Being number two to the Team I Can't Type is simply unacceptable -- but Sox management accepts it.

GIDP
another reminder of why we need guys like Willie Harris, Rowand and Jeremy Reed to step up and break up the 4 X 100 relay team in the middle of the batting order.

Kurkjan on the Dodgers
indeed you gotta believe if Kenny Williams could get frank out of town and get any kind of pitcher for him he'd do the deal. Why? To get him outta the clubhouse. To get out of the rest of the contract. To end the continuing PR nightmare. And to let the Dodgers take the hit in case this is the year Frank takes a major decline (which is inevitable one of these years, considering his age and size). Perez and a pitching prospect, and I'd pull the trigger. But, remember, Frank would have to approve any deal.

Sporting News Yearbook
Best case scenario is the Sox hang in there for the first two or three months. Then management would have to deliver on its promise to go out and pick up a few more parts to make a legit run at it. Otherwise, I fear more players will be dumped.

Reed at 1st Base?
amen. we could use a few more guys whose main objective is to get on base, not hit the critical six-run homer. we're heading into the new season with the 4 x 100 relay team of Paulie, Maggs, CLee and Frank intact.
-
who should be the 5th man in the rotation
Scho be Number 4 which is why we could have big trouble. four and five both awfully shaky
