All Frank, All the Time
gotta think that privately the Sox love this stuff. it's the only headlines the team generates during the off season while not spending any cash

All Frank, All the Time
story from Sunday's trib. Sent a writer to Vegas to find Frank and talk with him. tried a health club and several other joints. No luck. Pretty weird story. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines

Maggs headlines ...
this is according to the NY POst, which would wins multiple Pulitzer Prizes for Fiction if the category existed. The story sez Maggs is somebody the Mets would pursue if they were in contention and the Sox were looking to shed payroll. And from what I know about the Mets' farm system, New York ain't the place to send Maggs. http://www.nypost.com/sports/mets/15870.htm

Jeremy Reed our starting CF in April?
i predict he'll contend for the job. Start the season in Charlotte. And be summoned to the bigs when the fire sale begins in July.

This has been run into the ground, but ...
as i stated on another post, saw a fox sports show out of LA with two LA times writers yesterday. They said there a big problems with the proposed sale of the team. In fact, MLB is sending folks to LA next week to sort through the offer and see if it's a go. But their bottom line was that until the ownership thing is resolved they don't expect the Dodgers to be making any major moves. So I would be highly suspicious of this latest rumor.

Marvin Benard, outfielder
That would be A Row in CF. he deserves a legit tryout to see if he can play the position I think he'll be fine

Don't expect Thomas at Soxfest
actually, i agree. But it wouldn't pain me to see it be a package deal -- Frank and KW and JR

If you can tolerate one more rumor...
saw a TV show tonight with some LA Times sportswriters. They said the heat is building in LA for the Dodgers to do SOMETHING, especially considering everything the Angels have done. Seems that Dodgers fans are as perturbed as Sox fans seems to be. But ... there's a big problem. The sale of the team from Fox to the new owner (can't spell his name, Frank something) is stalling. The suspicion is the proposed owner doesn't have enough money to finish the deal. They said Major League Baseball is sending representatives to Los Angeles next week to determine if the deal is possible or not. They said it will probably fall through and that Fox will end up owning the team for another year. But the bottom line is that all this uncertainty has put the Dodgers' front office on hold.

Don't expect Thomas at Soxfest
let's face facts: KW and JR would be happy if Frankie left town. They like it that Ozzie got under his skin. They probably hope it motivates him to A) hit like a demon or B) waive his no-trade clause and beg them to make a deal. Frank had a remarkable and fabulous run. But it's time to turn this team over to different players and personalities.

Marvin Benard, outfielder
Reed has a half season at AA. He'd have to hit .400 this spring to have a chance to start in Chicago. Borchard has already been in AAA two full seasons. He needs to turn it around and make the club. Most guys who play three AAA seasons end up playing a fourth or a fifth and then sell insurance. It's time to Joe to deliver. But Marvin Bernard would be a fine pickup as a utility outfielder.

Vic
let's face facts: We're shifting through the discard and return bin trying to find another Loaiza or Gordon (a major question because of injuries before last season) or Herbert Perry or whomever. One or two of these guys might actually help. Hope they do. No problem with that. But the Sox need two more starting pitchers. Legit starting pitchers. Period. Colon threw a s***pot of quality innings last season. And we never did have a number five starter. If we don't fix that, the entire pitching staff falls apart because then you have to overuse your bullpen and everything goes to s*** real quick. Until we address those two problems, all this other stuff is merely playtime.

If you can tolerate one more rumor...
isn't armando rios still available? To be serious, our only chance to get a good deal is to find another taker for Maggs. The Dodgers know we're screwed. They're surely just waiting us out. Until they fear that Maggs is going elsewhere, they ain't gonna budge on their offer. And as long as that's the case, I prefer to keep Magglio and play it out with him and Rauch, Wright, Schoeneweis and other pretenders in the rotation.

Don't expect Thomas at Soxfest
if you can believe the media reports, Ozzie has tried to contact frank to sit and chat several times. Frank has waved him off. There's a new sheriff in town. And it's important for Ozzie to set the tone for the way he's running the show and the clubhouse. Frank doesn't want to do Sox Fest. Fine. But he needs to do what's asked of him in Tucson, drop the grudges against Ozzie and play -- first, DH, center field, relief pitcher, whatever. That's why he's getting his $6 million. And his Big Hurt feelings routine is getting really old. really, really, really old

Pudge to the Tigers?
we haven't been set at catcher since Pudge -- No. 72 variety -- was around. No offense, please, Officer Karkovice
-
For what it's worth
good guy. good wheels. good attitude. good minor league credentials. No stick. too bad because the guy was a born and bred Sox fan

Twins looking at Parque
My suspicion is that Gandhi and Nardi pitched all of those guys the waiting room at Dr. Andrews' clinic in Birmingham.
-
Pudge to the Tigers?
could be. But at least the Tigers are awakening from their slumber. I've got no problem with the Sox every day lineup. But to pretend there are not massive holes in the pitching staff at Number 1 starter (Colon's innings), Number 5 starter (a total disaster last season), set-up men in the pen (Gordon, Sullivan) is folly. It's hardly a stretch to suggest the Sox have done little to nothing to improve themselves this off-season. And, for the record, Carlton Fisk brought the nickname with him from Boston. He and IRod have shared the title for a bit.
-
Pudge to the Tigers?
If this is true, the White Sox off-season becomes even more embarrassing. I realize there is a great chance Scott Boras is using the Tigers and the Detroit Free Press to drive up the price and the interest in I-Rod. But if it's true that the Tigers are the front-runners for Pudge, it will be another day of howling on Planet White Sox. Here is the link: http://www.freep.com/sports/tigers/tigers15_20040115.htm

Twins looking at Parque
it's amazing to thing about what happened to so many of the pitchers on that 2000 team Parque -- scrambling for a job. Sirotka -- hasn't pitched for three seasons. Baldwin -- probably out of the game Eldred -- sat out a season and now in the Cardinal bullpen Howry -- major arm/elbow trouble and hoping to make it back with Cleveland, I think. lots of Major major arm problems. You've got at least four guys who are probalby finished.

Borchard on the BA Prospect List
22 is old for the level of ball he played Nanita will need play well Kannapolis and probably make the jump to Winston Salem by the end of the season. at 22, he was playing against a lot of pitchers two or three younger than him last summer. A number were just out of high school That's an advantage that disappears as you move up the system.

Time to face facts...
Been a Sox fan for forever. And will be one for forever, long after JR finally cashes in. I got no use for the Cubs. Never will. NONE. Got no problem with being a dedicated Sox fan -- and criticizing management. Gave them props last summer for trying to shake things up and go for it (belatedly, but they tried). But this off-season has sucked, plain and simple. When we can't even retain players like Graffanino, something ain't right. And considering the stunts management has pulled in the past -- letting a number of good players leave pissed off -- it's hardly being an alarmist to suspect that this summer is going to result in a massive dumping of talent, pleas for fans to stay loyal while the team rebuilds with young (read: cheap) talent. The fact is the Sox were supposed to be the next dominant team in this division when Cleveland dismantled. Well, the Central passed from The Tribe Era to the Twinkie Era and the Sox got one playoff appearance and whiffed. And remember: This is the same management that couldn't wait to shuffle Michael Jordan and Phil Jackson outta town. Loyalty is admirable. I'm all for it. Blind loyalty is for suckers.

Borchard on the BA Prospect List
If Reed starts the season hitting, he'll be in Chicago -- and quick. You can count on that. We need a left-handed hitter. And the sox love to sell the future. As for Borchard, he's got $5 million of Jerry Reinsdorf's dollars. He'll get every chance to sink or swim.
