  1. Sox MVPs 1. Estey 2. Marte 3. Caballo 4. Buehrle 5. Maggs
  2. kudos to ESTEY. lets build around him, buehrle and Garland and put together the best staff in the AL in 2004.
  3. Phenomenal work by Estey from April to September, he always answered the bell dude was the only pulse on the team for a while and he didn't pack it in.
  4. damn that was awfully close to being catchable, but that's the way this season has gone hats off to Estey Helluva year. I can remember in March when I thought Rauch or Heredia was going to beat him out. And hats off to KW for picking him up. best bargain-baseman signing of the year.
  5. could be but how experienced was Grady Little before he took over Boston? Ken Macha before he got the job at Oakland? Or Tony Pena at KC? surround Guillen with the right guys and I think he could bring a lot of plusses. the guy played shortstop in the big leagues for a long time. He knows the game. Only thing I worry about is that he was never the most patient hitter. drew very, very few walks. Hate to see our guys keep hitting like that.
  6. not going to say anything about what I didn't realize you were talking about
  7. If Buehrle wants to pitch, I'd let him. He was man enough to step aside and let Estey have the start.
  8. Guillen, as in Ozzie It could work if he surrounded himself with some veteran coaches. his personality is similar to Pena's. High octane. Plus, he's a fan favorite. Hopefully, he learned something watched McKeon work his magic with the Marlins this summer.
  9. Rooney just said the Sox are going to open the 2004 season in Kansas City AGAIN hopefully they won't get swept again.
  10. So if Estey is cruising to Number 21, do you pull him after six and let Buehrle pitch outta the pen?
  11. Farmer and Rooney said on the radio that the four names they have heard are (in any order) LaRussa Guillen Bell Gaston.
  12. Aaron Miles and Willie Harris are saying NOT SO FAST with the Robbie Alomar contract
  13. Amazing what a little speed and a guy who knows how to slide can do.
  14. I believe I heard Farmer on the radio a few weeks ago talk about how the Sox were playing the NL east again. I think he said the trips were Montreal and New York. If it is the reverse of last season, I guess that would mean the Phillies and Braves come to Chicago Sox didn't play Florida the last time the East was on the schedule.
  15. Daubach can't do it. He's simply not that good. Boston figured that out. That's why they got rid of him. Millar and Ortiz gave them tons more. Everett is too expensive. He's also gone. For salary reasons, either Rowand has to start in center and/or Harris/Miles will be at second. One or the other -- maybe both. I also foresee either Thomas or Konerko leaving. And a new SS would also be nice. My guess is the only sure things are Crede at 3b, Carlos Lee in left field or DH and Olivo at catcher. I wouldn't be stunned to see them deal Magglio, especially if they can get a young SS and perhaps a pitcher.
  16. Are we going to have a Go Braves thread for the NLDS? I vote YESSSSSSSSS
  17. I don't believe Roberto has played the entire weekend, has he?
  18. With the Bears opening the new Soldier Field against the Packers, the Cubs in Atlanta to start the NL playoffs on Tuesday night, a Monday announcement makes the most sense. Reduces the number of negative columns in the Chicago papers.
  19. not only that, he's hitting third, I think and Konerko sits again interesting They just showed the Crawford homer, the D'Angelo dropped popout against the As, the Harris dropped fly ball in Seattle, the Konerko DPs painful to watch
  20. John Rooney just asked JM on the pre-game show if this was his last game as the Sox manager. Jerry said he would rather not answer the question and that everybody would know the answer to the question on Monday at this time. Then he thanked Rooney for being his friend for six seasons. Bottom line: Word is coming down on Monday.
  21. Sox

I believe it is just during the World series that the unofficial moratorium is in place. Should be all clear to pull the plug on Joltin Jerry today, tomorrow or Tuesday.
  22. JD Drew is represented by Scott Boras. He will NEVER play for the White Sox. And I wouldn't want him anyway. He's often hurt. He's inconsistent. Renteria I like. But Drew ain't coming to the South Side. My five reasons this team failed 1. Consistent inability to produce runs without the long ball. That was one reason Sox lost all those games in Detroit. It's a tough park to go deep. And without the home run, the white Sox scored 3 runs in three games while getting swept there before the break. The team also lacked speed. I'm not talking about stolen bases. It's strategical speed, the ability to go from first to third on a borderline single or the ability to score from second base. That hurt badly in the middle of the order. Lots of times they needed four singles to score a run. That don't happen often. Or they'd get 2 or 3 hits and either Maggs or PK would roll into a DP. 2. Nothing from the fifth starter. One win from Stewart, Porzio, Wright and Cotts. Somebody needs to step up next season. 3. Indecision in the bullpen. Koch lost the confidence of the team in the very first series in KC when he blew up, I believe in the third game. Manuel, as usual, was indecisive. Tried to nurse Koch through the rough spots, but even after it became obvious that he wasn't right, Manuel resisted turning closing over to Marte and Gordon. By the time he did that, it was too late. 4. Konerko. He had 2 good months and four pretty crappy months. My memory of him will remain a guy who stands at home plate and hangs his head for a second EVERY TIME he hits a ball that he knows is an out. That needs to change before he turns it around. Somebody needs to show him a tape of how defeated his body language is. 5. The total meltdown against the Twins in the last five games. After taking the first two at home, they were primed to take at least four and maybe five of the final seven against the Twins. But they totally stalled. The more they lost, the harder they tried -- and failed. And, unbelievably, lost them all. It wasn't pretty. There are other reasons. But I'll stick with those five for now -- while I wait for a time and place on the Manuel press conference. Only 157 days until the first spring training game. GO BRAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  23. i just hope they noticed
  24. What's the difference in the Colon vs. Everett/Alomar situations in terms for getting draft picks if they are gone? Is it because we're not going to offer the latter two contracts or arbitration? Or because they were with the Sox for only half the season? I don't understand the difference.
