Gameday Thread: White Sox vs. Twins
give us the pbp. and give us a white sox winner. Let's turn the heat up on the Twinkies all the way
-
Pan-ee-ah-gone
maybe the Twins will sign him
-
Pan-ee-ah-gone
evidently they have pictures of every player on the team on the wall outside the clubhouse just passing along what they said on the TV pre-game show
-
Pan-ee-ah-gone
just said on the pre-game TV show that Reinsdorf personally took Paniagua's picture down from the wall when he was walking out of the park last night Thank you, Chairman. I can't imagine he was very happy with his manager for putting that slug into the game last night

ESPN Stands For
Let's see you have the White Sox and Twins playing a critical game tonight with the AL Central in the balance And you have the Yankees playing the Detroit Tigers, who are playing for nothing more than the worst record in baseball history. Which game would a sensible baseball fan think is the most meaninful? You guessed wrong: ESPN is carrying Yankees-Tigers on a day when they also featured their darling Red Sox in the afternoon. I'm convinced they would show clips of Jason Giambi and Derek Jeter taking BP and Pedro getting his nails buffed before they'd show a Sox game that did not involve the Yankees or Red Sox. It's absurd -- and annoying.
-
I see tonight as the game that puts us over
every time I think about the Twinkies having seven games left with the Tigers, all I can say is: We won't be over the top until it is officially OVER. this season has given us no reason to take ANYTHING for granted.

Paniagua Released!
I only have one question: Do we have official confirmation that Paniagua is really going, going, gone? Just want to make certain he is NOT on that plane to Boston tomorrow night.
-
Paniagua Released!
ripped them last night for leaving him in and putting team in a hole praise them now for doing the right thing Thank goodness he is outta here.

POLL: SHOULD Sox fans root for the Cubbiies or
No can do if the Cubs make the playoffs, in chicago the Sox will be relegated to: In other news
-
Carlos Pulido
If Paniagua pitches again before Feb. 20, the players need to lock the manager in his office and run the team on their own

Joe Posnansk: Pena Says "It's not over yet"
EXACTLY right!!!!! seven games with Detroit for a team that has won 21 of 22 against Detroit Way I figure, if the Tigers beat the Twinkies more than once it will be a bonus
-
oakland wins 8-1
no prob we're all in this together. just a bit annoying to turn an 8-2 lead into a nailbiter here's to smoother sailing tonight -- cheers
-
Joe Posnansk: Pena Says "It's not over yet"
it's wayyyyyy too soon to talk trash -- to the twinkies or royals

Tonight's Keystone Combo
Every game the rest of the way is a biggy But this one truly is big have a chance to: A) beat their best starter. B) make sure the Twins leave town AT LEAST two games behind C) pump up Garland's confidence D) get your team juiced for the six-game road trip E) flush the memory of JM's Tuesday night Jose Paniagua Brain Cramp out of your system. F) all of the above Let's Do It

oakland wins 8-1
Couldn't be THAT demoralizing if you're picked up by a team with a chance to get to the World Series. you get to work with a top pitching coach -- Rick Peterson. No pressure to close because Foulke is there. If I'm steve sparks I'm thinking I hit the Powerball.

oakland wins 8-1
thanks for the support, Dick Allen we're on the same page I said in the post I wasn't sure if Foulke needed the work. obviously, he did. but the primary point was that the Sox should have been able to finish the 8th and 9th with Sullivan, Schoeneweis and WUNSCH. PERIOD. To treat a game as important as that game as a Cactus League game is to prove you've got no idea how to handle a bullpen. Haven't read any reaction from Kenny Williams or reinsdorf, but I would have loved to hear what they were saying after the fourth guy reached base on Joe Bread and Water. Bring Al Lopez home from Tampa for the next 19 games. The Senor knew how to handle a pitching staff. Manuel is a vacuum. If the Sox win the division, it will be DESPITE Jerry Manuel, not because of him. That's my story -- and I'm sticking with it.

Tonight's Keystone Combo
I like the idea of Miggy -- although Santana an excellent breaking ball and we know how he fares against the curveball in the dirt. I'd expect Robbie to rest either today or tomorrow. Makes sense to rest him today against the lefty, although I don't know what his numbers are against Santana. those stats will tell the story

What should have JM do?
You speak the whole truth, Dick Allen. You got Schoeneweis in the game. He can EASILY get the ninth inning. You got a Twins lineup that is set up lefty right lefy righty. He's either going to face some lefties or make the Twinkies empty the bench. You got Wunsch in reserve. There is no freakin way you toss Paniague in a game like that. If Cooper has any clue, he's seen the guy throw on the side and knows he's tossing meatballs like the ones he threw in the game. If you're down 6, i got no problem with it. But to run the risk of blowing the game and all your momentum was simply flat-out idiotic. The combination of Manuel making the decisions and a handful of un-useable pitchers -- Paniagua, Koch, Adkins == is simply frigtening.

Carlos Pulido
Wondering if Twins fans and media are hammering Gardenhire for Pulido the way Manuel is getting hammered -- deservedly -- for the our Paniagua Rolaids Moment.
