  1. Excellent report. Thanks for pulling all that information together. One question: In the past I thought teams were limited to six guys. Have they expanded or our they just rotating a few guys out?
  2. During his chat this afternoon, J.J. Cooper says Tim Anderson was 21st. I'm starting to believe these prospects guys don't care for the White Sox because they don't share information before draft time. Here is what he said about Anderson: Sam (Chicago): Where did Tim Anderson fall outside the Top 20? What is his potential? J.J. Cooper: He was 21. If this list went one longer, he was on it. In fact, I wrote him up: 21. Tim Anderson, ss, White Sox Coming into the draft, scouts were divided as to whether Anderson would end up as a speedy singles hitter in pro ball or a speedster who also provided more than expected power for a middle infielder. A half season into his pro career, Anderson didn’t show much of the pop that some expect to see eventually, but he did showcase his plus-plus speed. His swing is relatively simple, although he has work to do on pitch recognition. Defensively, he did little to alleviate concerns that he’ll eventually move to second base or center field. His arm appears to be short for the position, although observers did like his actions and his first-step quickness. And about Micah: Matt C (Chicago): Was Micah Johnson (Kannapolis, then Winston-Salem, then B-Ham) on the radar for the SAL T20? If not, is he considered for the CAR? His combo of on base work, leading MiLB in steals, and hit for average was impressive. J.J. Cooper: He didn’t miss this list by much. In fact I wrote him up as a potential No. 20 at one point, here’s a freebie: Johnson led the minors in steals this year, taking the crown that had been Billy Hamilton’s for each of the past two seasons. While Johnson may not match Hamilton’s speed from first to second, he is one of the faster players in the game, a true 80 on the 20-to-80 scouting scale. But unlike a lot of Class A speedsters, Johnson also has a pretty good idea of what he’s doing at the plate. He has a chance to be a league-average hitter with below-average power. Considering his speed, that could be enough to make him a useful player offensively. But the questions about his usefulness revolve around his defense. He has good range and turns an OK double play, but his hands are hard and his arm is below-average. Scouts question whether he can be solid enough defensively to play second base every day. More see him as a super utility player who can play center field, left field and second base.
  3. Dunn will make ... what, $15 million next season? He's played three years and had about 6 good months out of 18 baseball months. Not in shape. Doen't contribute in the field or on the bases. He's never been a winner anywhere he's played. Until he goes, I don't believe the Sox will be any better than an average team (and I know that would be an improvement over this season).
  4. Seems that Semien should be ranked higher. Hard to question his numbers. What about Micah? Need to do more at a higher level?
  5. Beckham made more than $2.9 million last season. I expect that would put him at $3.2 or so next season. I'm for giving him one more chance. He was having a solid season but was hurt repeatedly. Came back OK from the first one but not the second. Sox have bigger needs -- catcher, third baseman and another outfielder. My wish list starts with getting rid of Dunn. I don't think the culture of the team will improve until he's gone. He's not in shape. He's never played for a team that has made the post season. He can't field. He can't run. He can't throw. He can't hit for average. And I think his comments about how it was a wasted year since the Sox didn't make the playoffs came across as whiny. Until he leaves, I don't see a major improvement.
  6. Didn't understand why Konerko only hit once -- and left after making an out. what kind of exit was that? forgettable, just like this season.
  7. 1. Buddy Bell should be fired to become Jared Mitchell's personal hitting coach in another organization. 2. Charlie Manuel would be my choice, but you wonder if he'd want to serve as a hitting coach after being a manager all those years. The guy will be 70 in January. 3. Maybe it was intended to put a lot of people on notice that if things don't get better, you're outta here. Amen to that.
  8. Even Cooper has said on the radio that Rienzo has some mechanical issues that might not be fixable -- thus the problems with walks. stay tuned. Rienzo has considerable work to do before I'd count on him.
  9. as long as there are no guarantees beyond 2014. Got a pass from the media this season. But if the fielding and base-running is as bad next season, see ya later.
  10. I heard Cal Ripken interview PK on his radio show within the last couple of weeks. PK asked Ripken what he should do. Ripken said don't rush into a decision.Take your time. Wait until after the season has been over for a few days and then make up your mind. PK said that sounded like a good plan. I doubt we hear anything substantive today.
  11. If the Sox don't win the game Sale pitches, I'm betting on Club 100.
  12. Machado, Hosmer, Longoria all went third, so i'll take it -- and not dwell on the overall third picks who were nothing special (like Humber).
  13. BA has the usual questions about how his motion would allow his health to hold up. Bundy, Harvey and others have better motions, but still broke down. Can happen to anybody.
  14. What are the odds that Leesman serves as a left-handed reliever next season?
  15. There it is: Farewell Dylan. Godspeed.
  16. Leesman next? We're only sending our very best.
  17. Everybody try not to get too emotional: Dylan Axelrod's farewell to the White Sox will be here any minute. Who get #33 next season? That's a choice number.
  18. Danish should make the Appy Top 20. Anybody else? BA was pretty high on Engel. Said they made a change in his stance that improved his hitting. He's got the other tools.
  19. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Sep 26, 2013 -> 12:12 AM) It's like everyone forgets Beckham is one of the worst players in the AL. Other than Sale, Crain, Quintana, Santiago, Garcia and Reed (for about 4 1/2 months) I'd fail every one of them. And don't forget Award For Special Achievement: Kenny Williams. He is the architect of this disaster.
  20. If I'm the rangers, I'm pissed the Sox are using Axelrod. But when your eye is on the prize of the #3 pick, you do what you need to do.
  21. it can't be worse than this season. I have faith in Hahn. He made some solid moves at the deadline. He'll make more in November and December. Won't be a quick fix. But better days are coming.
  22. incredibly self-indulgent -- and unnecessarily long. As if Chicago is the only city in the country with an expressway running through the middle of town, close to the ballpark. As if the Sox are the only team that employs a former player (Girardi, Gardenhire, Matheny, Weiss) as the manager. The live audience is irrelevant? That's not a problem limited to baseball. Athletic directors at SEC schools have one of the most beloved football products on the market -- and they're worried about that. I could go on. The story was better than 59-91, but not much.
  23. I'll go out on a limb and predict the Barons could win one against Cleveland.
  24. Within 2 1/2 games of the Fish. This can be done.
