Matt Thornton to Boston
Tribune says it is indeed the return on Donnie Veal. 17 Ks, but 8 walks and 12 hits and 8 runs in his last 14 innings. Needs more than Coop.

John Sickels weighs in, saying the deal makes sense for both teams. Also includes video of Jacobs. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2013/7/13/4...-brandon-jacobs

Matt Thornton to Boston
I figure the Sox just saved roughly $3.25 million. Thornton making $5.5. Prorated for the rest of the season they owed him another $3 million or so. Add another $1 million for the buyout and then subtract the $750,000 being sent to Boston. Question Number Two: Who's next?

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 03:31 AM) Don't forget the Bears # 1 pick. And that brief and forgettable look at Mitch Mustain. Ooops. Can't forget Clayton Richard, although I liked him.

Matt Thornton to Boston
I would feel better if the Sox would have included Mitchell in the deal, just to show the Red Sox we care.

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 03:28 AM) Another football player. They are determined to have one of these guys pan out. Borchard, Fields, Mitchell ... Frank Thomas. This kid was committed to Auburn. Maybe that was the plan.

Matt Thornton to Boston
Won't win many games, but they'll be tough to beat in skills' competition, especially if a stopwatch is involved.

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 03:21 AM) Is that where he lives? Wherever he lives is probably where they should send Mitchell. Send him back to LSU and see if Les Miles needs a receiver with one year of eligibility. Buddy Bell has lost all credibility with me by continuing to tout Mitchell. It ain't happening.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 03:18 AM) My uneducated guess would be that Mitchell gets sent to Charlotte again Do you mean Charlotte or Winston-Salem for Mitchell?

Matt Thornton to Boston
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 13, 2013 -> 04:01 AM) I don't mind this trade by Kenny Williams It's funny, as I got done reading the newest BA that says Jacobs was the biggest disappointment of the first half for Red Sox farm system. He'll fit right in.

Thornton and cash -- meaning White Sox are paying part of the next 2 1/2 months?
-
7/12 Games
Maybe the next move Hahn needs to make is a minor league hitting instructor for the entire system.

7/12 Games
Jacob May also scuffling big time after his promotion. Joe Borchard was a whiff king -- only 158 Ks in nearly 600 PAs in first full season at AA. Dunn? Only 101 Ks in in 538 PAs in Midwest League when he was 20. Hawkins is alarming.

Winned game
Leyland said before the game on the his radio pre-game show that he feared the White Sox. And I laughed.

7.8 Games
Micah is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing prospects in our system. The Sox need offense and speed. Hopefully he can provide both -- and find a position where he can be at least average.

7/7 at Rays
Tyler Flowers just texted his agent: Get me outta here.

7/7 at Rays
Still got 19 left with Tigers. At least that's what I heard.

7/6 White Sox vs. Rays (Sale vs. Moore)
Impossible to imagine how ugly this is going to get. But 95-plus losses seems inevitable. In line for #4 pick, but they can do better.

turn back the clock day. Seems strange for a team like Tampa. But everybody needs a gimmick.

Sox wearing home unis on the road? that's what Farmer says.

7/6 White Sox vs. Rays (Sale vs. Moore)
Phegley usually sat or DH'd once or twice a week in Charlotte. I'm guessing the playing time will be 60-40 Phegley -- until one of them (Phegley, I hope) earns the majority of the time.

5/7 The Devil Rays Game Thread
Wanted to watch Phegley and Tekotte hit, but can't wait forever.

5/7 The Devil Rays Game Thread
Just curious: Why do the Sox believe Tekotte is a big-league outfielder? Just wondering they're expecting him to bring? Speed? D? Not ripping. Just wondering.
